I have had the most wonderful service and helpful advice with some fantastic people. They made me feel like I was the criminal when I was recently scammed out of some money. Practically yelled at me over the phone making me feel worse than I already did. They refused to reimburse our money so I had to file a complaint in order to get the money back. I am an honest person and unfortunately assume others are. So when I received a phone call that showed Beacon Credit Union and their phone number on my caller ID, of course I thought I was speaking with someone from Beacon. We have banked here since moving to VA. (Almost ten years). We had a fraudulent charge of over 400 dollars that they would *NOT* help us with. We've never asked anything of them or complained about their slow service. We've never complained about the wait time in the drive thrus...We've not said a word about the countless times they've miscounted money. But THIS ... this was big. Something they could have done to show they cared about their customers (I know right..ha). Stay away from this establishment if possible. We had a very positive experience with Beacon Credit Union and their staff, especially Laura Shafer and Shara Smals. They were so helpful, creative and clever when opening our new checking accounts. Shara, the manager of the Buena Vista branch really went above and beyond to listen to our issues and directed us to the correct products. She was fantastic. Overall, it seems like Beacon Credit Union has a great team of staff who are dedicated to providing excellent customer service. Never heard of a credit union,bank or any other financial institution that does not accept coins for counting.

Worst branch in town (Logan's Ln). Very unfriendly in-person staff. It's like everybody hates their jobs. Can't reach anybody on the phone even though there are multiple people working inside - their automatic telephone service says "due to unforeseen circumstances we cannot take your call" and then hangs up. I know it's Covid season, but that doesn't give you the right to treat your customers like they're a burden. Simply put, this bank hates their customers. Can't wait til I'm done making loan payments. Never banking with Beacon again. Don't recommend. read more

I wasted 4 years with them. Credit Unions are supposed to support the community...not this one. The savings APR is horrible! They do not communicate well at all! I won't get into details but just know I took ALL my money out! I had to leave the account open bc I have a credit card. Once that is paid off in March...I'm done! read more

This credit union never does what the web site says it will do. For instance transferring money from one credit union to another electronically it says same day transfer on the web site, but, than it takes 3 days for the money to be deposited in the other credit union. What the heck do they mean by same day transfer? It's just not a very high tech institution if you know what I mean. read more

I went to Beacon in Buena Vista. Looked at a couple of repossessed cars. Told so many different stories to which one I did not believe. Then, when bidding ended, a week had gone by and cars were still in parking lot. I went inside and Manager said, oh, did you bid & if so, how much? Employee said, This is what I need on these cars, the NADA trade in value. If bids had closed, why say this? Sealed bids are sealed for a reason. Then, why need a branch manager when a guy in Lynchburg has to approve the original sealed bid? Also, employee should not tell why the person turned the vehicles in because of losing their job. Rating this as 5 stars so it won't get buried.this is the WORST banking institution EVER!!they are incredibly hard to work with and should not be doing business in cities they do not have branches in.because they are so hard to work with and kept kicking my banking I fo out of their systems I got my car repossessed and they couldn't get all the money for it left me responsible for 17k that I don't have drug me an hour away for a sham court hearing where they were late and the judge had an inch thick stack of cases from beacon alone.they are a fraudulent company in my eyes and thieves threatening legal action to a court that offers no legal counsel in defense and you can't get a continuance unless beacon allows it...they won't fyi.now I am stuck paying them for a vehicle they wouldn't help me pay them for and no longer have because they repoed it so they make 50k off of one vehicle...wish I had the money to sue but I now have to give them every dime I have each payday minus my rent so im trying to figure out how to live without food.and beacon could care less. read more

When I first started with this credit union their costumer service was outstanding. As the years went on I believe the service has gotten worse instead of staying consistent. I don't feel supported or respected. All due to one employee of this company, I honestly wish y'all could put someone who can communicate with people in her position.... worst costumer service skills I have ever had to deal with. read more

No stars is how I would like to review beacon. Opened a savings account and was told there were no fees. Haha. Well if you check your balance at their ATM they charge you $1.50 each time. Also if you don't sign up for estatements when opening the account the charge you $3.00 even if you do it a week later. So lesson learned, you must ask about fee by name not just in general manager at the Logan office. Go somewhere else is all I can tell you. read more

I don't understand how they allow people coming in for a loan to sit in the lobby around other people and ask such personal financial questions. This needs to be done in an office. Absolutely ridiculous that the receptionist sits and ask personal questions when other people are around in the lobby. So much for privacy. I will never do business with this bank again. Also, 30 people working in this office and I am sitting in the lobby waiting for the receptionist to handle my business publicly. read more

Customer service is not the greatest, was wonderful when I first took out a loan for a vehicle but now it stinks. Won't work with you when it comes to changing payment dates. No longer live in that area and have asked twice to change the payment date over the phone but was told they can't do it unless I drive from Raleigh, NC area to Danville, VA. Told them that is not going to happen they will keep getting payment like it has been coming each month which hasn't been a problem until this month when all of a sudden under new leadership and wants the collectors to email, call or do anything to get that payment in. Do not recommend this bank and would go elsewhere for financing. read more

Do not be a member with beacon! They recently deposited money into my account by accident on the same day I was suppose to receive a check, which was about the same amount as the money deposited. I spent it thinking it was mine. They notified me DAYS later requesting me to pay it back. Me having no money to, also having bills to pay, I requested an extension or some kind of payment plan to correct it. Which I shouldnt have too because its their mistake! I wake up the next day and the moneys took out of not only my checking, but also my savings!!... I went in person to correct it and they basically say theres nothing they can do, and that i should receive a call from corporate the next day. The next day comes, no call is received by 430 so I called them. Its a automated message i have to go through menus just to speak to someone. I basically spend 30 min trying to reexplain everything which goes no where, other than that ill have to correct THEIR mistake. Ive been with beacon for over a year, and its been nothing but unexpected fees and headache. Will be switching and banking with Bank of America. Wouldnt recommend to anyone. read more

After dealing with Beacon Credit Union with lackluster experiences for the last 8 months, I'm happy to wave goodbye! They took over the Danville City Employees' Federal Credit Union portfolio and have absolutely failed at delivering anything that resembles customer service. Incompetent, robotic, halfhearted service reps and nickel and diming business practices are so last century. When I explained my concerns and asked the rep, Sarah, why I should consider staying, she could only speak to their "cheap" products (aka every credit union's value proposition). These cheapskates forced me to send them a 0.68 check because they didn't process my final payment in a timely manner (that's right, they don't "do" electronic payments, yet they will charge you $3 per month for a paper statement). Never felt so good to say farewell. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this hot mess express excuse of a financial institution. They get one star because zero isn't an option. I have a fairly large amount of money coming to me from the sale of a property in another country. I was told that the transfer would be fine, and set up the interaction to take place into my account. Days before the money was to be wired into my account, the bank decided they didn't want my money and put a stop to the transfer. Upon speculation, I was first told by the CFO Himself that it was "policy" to only accept "X" amount of dollars. Then, I was told that they didn't want the money because of the country I am from. Then, told that it was none of my business why they said no because they reserve that right. Closing my account and going elsewhere. This bank is bad news. read more

Very friendly credit union. Sometimes there is an extra long wait for a teller, but usually pretty quick.

A few weeks ago, we purchased a used car, and went to Beacon to finance the loan. Crystal Green, the branch manager, helped us out tremendously. We started the paperwork bw 5:20-5:30 pm (their lobby closed at 6 pm), and Ms. Green and her team had us out the door by 6pm with excellent help, gracious and patient understanding, and quick support. They were a huge help, especially with the time crunch we posed to them. read more
