I've always enjoyed a structured workout and this is what TDM gives you. But like any studio anywhere, there are always pros and cons. PROS: - Clean studios - friendly staff - there is a shower and a type of day care for kids - challenging exercises that can be modified. - free parking CONS: - there's only one shower and bathroom so it can get packed real quick. - the space (at least in Corte madera) is very small and tight. - they're not a lot of day care options available. - not as many classes as some would like, especially in the evenings. - not a very diverse clientele- but that's not the studios fault (at least I hope it's not) - parking is limited - VERY EXPENSIVE. And they are always finding ways to charge you extra. For example, there's a no show fee of $15/class. I get that they charge to encourage you to go to class because another person could've take your spot if you canceled but they don't actually have that many people going in at once. Every time I went in, there was always space. For unlimited bar classes, I believe it costs $179 but if you want to engage in unlimited cycling and barre classes, the price jumps to over $200. I understand that these classes aren't suppose to be cheap because you are paying for the instructors time and the studio space but yesh, that's quite steep, especially since it's not a Pilates studios that requires a specific machine or any at all. The introductory package (21 days of unlimited barre and cycling) cost $75! I think that's what I'm most put off by. They are still charging so much for someone just to try it out and they don't even give you the full month to try it out. I have decent job in the Bay Area that allows me to pay for that but I still don't want to throw down that much. I gave it a try but I don't think I'd be going back. I've seen a lot of other studios that make a greater commitment to their students health at a much lesser cost and I think I'll support those types of studio. For example, Red Dragon Yoga studios also costs over $100 (I think it's around $129) for unlimited studio use but they have an intro deal of $30 for unlimited yoga at any of their locations. They also (as far as I know) don't threaten students with extra costs if they suddenly can't show up. Again, there are pros and cons to everything so I'd recommend trying at least once, that is if you want to spend money here.

I've learned about the small muscles in my back and shoulders, work my abs, quads, arms, all of which help me in all other exercise - bike, climbing, TRX, yoga - and with my posture at work. Each studio has their own personality just like their communities. I've done years of Bikram, many yoga, pilates, TRX and other classes around the county. I always come back to TDM and love it here. I feel so much better even though I may be sore. The teachers have been mostly fabulous! Yes, they've known their clients for years so it can get a bit chatty but they always come back and focus. Last note: I didn't really discover the value of it fully till I did a 30 day thing and went to 18 classes. Then I found out how hard it REALLY was once I started to learn the right muscles and posture!

You do have to wear Pilates socks, so make sure to bring a pair. Parking is easy, but I recommend getting there a little earlier since it's located near Trader Joe's and other businesses, so the area can get a bit busy. The staff were all very kind and welcoming, and the studio itself was super clean and well maintained. What I really enjoyed about this class is that while you definitely feel the burn and get sore (in the best way!), the instructor made sure we stretched multiple times throughout -- at least three different stretch moments during class. That balance of strengthening and stretching made such a difference. I'll definitely be coming back!

The studio itself is lovely--the front desk staff is friendly and attentive, and the waiting area is cozy, clean, quiet, and peaceful. I also really appreciate that they keep doors and windows open for fresh air, especially during cold and flu season. A friend recommended private lessons with Carlo, and I've been extremely happy with him. He's an excellent instructor who took the time to understand my medical condition and tailor sessions that avoid aggravating my injury. Instead, he focuses on strengthening my hips, back, and glutes, and improving my posture. I'm learning so much and highly recommend his instruction and the studio.

He mentioned that strengthening my core would be my best bet to control for further damage and he also said that Pilates had shown some promising results in recent studies. Well, I'm not someone who distrusts the opinion of an expert and so I set out to find the best Pilates instructor in my area. I used the messaging feature here on Yelp to connect with 4 or 5 different Pilates studios in Marin: FitWise in Mill Valley was one of the studios and I swear that within a few hours of me sending the message, Ronda - the owner of the studio - gave me a call. I was immediately impressed by Ronda's knowledge about my condition and that comforted me immensely. Since then, I've seen Ronda for regular 1:1 Pilates sessions and I also attend group classes about twice a week. (One of my favorite classes is the matt pilates class as that one gives me a lot of inspiration for home exercises, which I have since integrated into my life as well.) Technical excellency aside, I would also like to give a shoutout to all the instructors and staff: they're all super nice and even though I may have had only a very small interaction with them, they all know me by name. Honestly, that makes such a difference and it makes me look forward to going to class. PS: I would like to encourage the men of Mill Valley to also join this studio. I sometimes feel a bit lonely among the largely female clientele ;-)

I wanted to strengthen my leg muscles so that I could return to playing tennis. As someone who is over 80 yrs old, I was somewhat skeptical that weight training could make a big difference in my athletic abilities but one year and half later of training with Maria and I believe I'm more physically fit than I was in my 40's. Everything is easier (i.e., walking up stairs, carrying heavy loads, keeping up with grandkids ,etc.) To say my quality of life has improved due to my work with Maria is an understatement, Maria is a consummate professional. She explains exercises clearly, pays attention to form and keeps sessions motivating and enjoyable. One day when I was lifting weights on my own at the gym, a gentleman commented, "I see that you are experienced with weight lifting, Your form is perfect. You must have been doing this for many years." I give Maria full credit for teaching me the right (safe) way to lift. I occasionally have a few sore muscles but recovery is quick after a workout. Probably the most important thing I've learned from Maria is to believe in myself. Sometimes she tries a new exercise that I think is impossible for me to achieve, let alone master. Her confidence is unwavering and has a profound effect on my mental attitude. I see few women my age working out with weights at the Bay Club. I hope this review will encourage someone who is considering personal training to contact Maria. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish with her expert guidance.
