We visited Bear Valley snowmobile today! We wanted to do the one hour tour, which is first come first serve. I was nervous about crowds so we got there at 8:45. We got checked in right at 9 AM and then we were ready to go. We rented 2 snowmobiles, my husband drove 1 with our 9 year old and I drove the other with our 8 year old. Our tour guide was Kai and he was great. Gave us a quick rundown of how things go and we were off running. He took us up in the village and showed us several "landmarks" in the area. They had this caddy that you can attach to your Snowmobile for the child's Safety. After a very good experience with them, we never changed our place to Snowmobile, we stick to this company when it comes to Snowmobile rides. Every time we come here we rent like 2 to 3 beautiful SNOWMOBILES and it drives really well and smooth, the tracks are also so cool. AS FAR as I KNOW .... this is the ONLY snowmobile company where YOU DON'T NEED a TOUR GUIDE. You go on your OWN and CAN ENJOY and STOP whenever you want 'coz you don't have a tour Guide to Follow. But their STAFF is all over the TRACKS patrolling the area just in case you need Help. It's SO EASY, it is guaranteed that you wont even get lost, the tracks are long, but it is easy to recognize the paths. I Strongly recommend this place for good SNOWMOBILE RIDES. This is the MAIN REASON that we visit up NORTH every year 'coz of this place. Went back in January 2024 and the day before, there was a snowstorm and I didn't see the email Kim had sent for canceling so we drove up to bear valley. It was too much snow and the trail hasn't been groomed so we couldn't do Lake Alpine like I wanted to but they accommodated and we were able to drive the snowmobile around the Bear Valley Village. It was a great time. One thing though would be that our snowmobile was quite old and some part in the front was broken. But we appreciated their flexibility working with us esp. Bear Valley Snowmobile was great, we had Steve explain the rules of riding. He did a great job explaining and was hilarious doing it. Very informative, yet making you feel comfortable. Great guy to deal with the customers. I joked with Steve telling him that they needed a woman on the mountain, and I was available. Haha. That would be a great job! The ride itself was fantastic! We have never done a trip without a guide. It made it nice that we were an able to stop and enjoy the scenery. Make sure you do the 4 hours so you can enjoy the day without rushing. The ladies at the counter are super sweet and friendly. It made handing over $500 for a pair of snowmobiles for 4 hrs easier. It's quite strategic. They say you need to rent them in pairs for safety reasons because you have free reign. In reality, there are so many riders out there that you're never really alone for long before someone else buzzes past you. They put those sweet ladies at the counter to make you forget you just dropped an equivalent to a nice car payment for 4 hrs of fun time. You make your reservation online, show up about an hour before your reservation time, pick up your helmet, go over the rules, hop in your car and drive 2 miles up highway 4 and park your vehicle along the side of the road and meet at the gathering spot where they hand you your Ski-Doos. The machines are decent. Some are better than others where they have handwarmers and backseats for the rear passengers. I was skeptical about those handwarmers in the beginning because I was thinking 'how will i even feel them thru my thick ski gloves"? Let me tell they get about as hot as grabbing a hot pan handle from the stove. There's no way you can grab those WITHOUT gloves once they get going. I had to keep turning them off because they got too hot. Most of the fleet are 550s. They ran out and gave me one of their reserve backups. It was kinda old looking, but at least it was a 1000cc Bombardier. The seats were ripped but so were most of them in their fleet of 50 vehicles they had. My riding partner was such a slow poke that I had to turn around and see what happened to her. Since the trail was so narrow and you can barely make a U-turn so I pulled right up the slighly raised embankment. When I did that, the friggin snowmobile rolled over and cracked the windshield. Ugh! For the rest of the day I rode with 1/2 a windshield and if you follow closely behind another vehicle, you get pelted with snow. It was a really fun time on a clear, beautiful day. Be warned that there is absolutely no cell phone reception once you're an hour east of Stockton all the way to Bear Valley. They don't have Wi-Fi either. If you wanna talk to someone, bring walkie-talkies or Yodel off the summit like a Ricola commercial. Would have been better if they didn't charge me $105 for a cracked windshield. But then again the sweet ladies gave me a free T-shirt so it lessened the pain of forking out $600 here. I told you it's strategic. read more

Staff was Great.( Steve is an 8 ball) (joking) We pick a perfit day.. 2" of new snow.. the snow trail was freshly groomed (hwy 4 after the closer) was worried at first that riding down a closed road would be boring... I was wrong! Had some nice turns and elevation change ( I toke the 2 hour ride). Had to stay on trail...off trail was too deep for a beginner with a low hp machine. Don't get me wrong.. we rode The ski-doo 800 tundra has plenty of power to get you in the trouble. The other snowmobile where a wider track GTX something. .I would use the wider on my next visit on the 4 hour ride. The yellow tundra 800 seemed more nimble. P.S. ** We had a LMAO ... Horrible Customer Service. We drove 4 hours on Christmas Eve & were treated horribly by the "manager and supervisor" Kim. She refused to give us her last name and I asked for the owner of the company name and she gave us owner name "Micheal Dinnakola". When we arrived we had reserved 2 snow mobiles. We had reserved for two hours and read all the instructions via the website we booked on. Upon arrival we explained our reservation was for two hours and she said no it's total 4 hours, two hours there and two hours back. Due to medical conditions one of our riders could not do the full four hours and she REFUSED to give a refund. She said it was explained online and could not show us any proof of where it's stated. She said we signed a waiver on our email confirmation, we never signed any waiver. We asked her for her copy of our waiver and she said she doesn't have access, I don't understand where the waivers go if not to the company? She showed us a printed email that she had there sent to someone completely different and showed us small printed lettering stating that, we showed her our email and how it did not state thshe said it didn't matter that was still the policy. We never received that waiver, They should have all waivers and confirmations in their systems and she didn't have any confirmations to give us and refused refund. After 20 minutes of arguing with this extremely rude lady, she said you're wasting your time you should leave already. We went ahead and just had our passenger with medical condition to just wait for us to return, when arriving we got yelled at by snow instructor for being late and he told us we needed to hurry up. There were mechanical issues with our snow mobile which caused us to end our ride earlier then our time we paid for. This picture I took that's hung in their office says "they strive for excellent customer service and happy customers" which is a lie. Me and my family wanted to have a great Christmas Eve went in so happy and the attitudes were unacceptable, especially Kim in the office. I have never encountered such an entitled person like her, very rude. All in all great views but horrible customer service and I will not be returning and giving my business here. read more

The air is rushing past you, the snow is all around. Just a blast!!! Now before your cross country skiers start emailing me, I love the quiet and serenity of back country skiing too. But there are times when you want to ride the beast and have some exhilaration. An interesting thing about Bear Valley Village is that in the wintertime it is closed to cars beyond the lodge and the only transportation through the village is skiing and snowmobiles. So you can rent right in the village and ride around in there. The other two options are: - Spicer Reservoir - an offshoot from HW 4 that goes down to Spicer - Lake Alpine - at the end of HW 4 where it is closed for the winter All options offer lots of trails. If it's the first time and you have kids riding too (must be 18 to drive) then around the village for 2 hours may be a good option. But if you want a longer time and a little more speed, go to Spicer or Alpine. Spicer has fewer skiers and other people since Alpine is more of an attraction. Either way, it's a blast. You and your honey can ride together on one for 4 hours for $200. Maybe sneak away down a trail, park under a tree and warm each other up in the snow ;). Make it quick though, you're on the clock. read more

We rented 4 snowmobiles from Bear Valley Snowmobiles 3 days ago and had the greatest time ever !!! We traveled over 50 miles on brand new, beautiful, powerful snowmobiles. We rode all the way to the end of the trail and had lunch on Lake Alpine under the warm sun surrounded by snowy mountains. The trail was flat, wide and gorgeous. We only saw 5 other snowmobiles the entire 4 hour ride. The scenery is amazing since you're riding through US Forest Service land. Steve, Luke and Kim were extremely friendly and very helpful. We finished the paperwork with ease and then drove to the rally point. The gentleman who gave us our orientation was friendly and efficient. Our machines were perfect on a perfect day. WATCH OUT THESE PEOPLE ARE THIEVES !! We rented out over $1,000.00 for one hr of snowmobile with our large group. They said that we crashed and made a scratch on the front bumper tried to charge us 1,800.00 for something we didn't do!!They had no proof and worst customer service!! We were denied from leaving till we payed something... clearly they are used to running this little scam! We ended up giving them 100.00 cash so we could leave ! What a scam!!! STAY AWAY!! Yeah, its pricey. However, its one heck of an experience! My wife and I did the 4 hour option, and it only felt like 90 minutes. We were newbies on the machines, but they're very easy to use. For safety reasons, a minimum of TWO machines must be rented. Just in case one breaks down or its wrecked. Oh, and if you dump your machine and/or get it stuck, you're charged a $100 pull-out fee. We saw this happen by a pack of rowdy men who went off trail. (One of them also lost their car keys on the way back.) read more

First time renting a snowmobile here. All employees were super nice and friendly, weather was amazing. My only complaint was my snowmobile kept dying #33, I would be trucking along and all of a sudden it would just die. It died about 10 times on our two hour rental which took a lot a time off our sightseeing and picture taking and was frustrating and a little scary. At the turning point there were two guys instructing us where to turn around and I stopped and told them about the issue and they just said that it happens and we're not really concerned. Just glad I made it back safe and no one ran into me. Later the lady at the check in said the guy at the turn around point should have changed snowmobile with me. That's what they are out there for. Disappointed that they just let me continue back with a snowmobile knowing I was having technical issues. read more

This is the BEST place to spend a few hours on a snowmobile. I have not ridden a snowmobile in five years and decided to take a quick trip up to Bear Valley for a few hours of fun. The store is located right at the village very easy to find. We found Scott and the staff extremely friendly and happy to see us. The Snowmobiles were brand spanking new and worked flawlessly. The Prices are also very fair. I found Alpine Snowmobile Center to be a GREAT place for beginner and Intermediate riders. We loved the trip to the top of the mountain. The trial was challenging and as soon as we got to the top the view was breathtaking. I would definitely give these guys a shot if you are looking for something fun to do. read more

Me and 5 of my friends rented snowmobiles after a couple of years without snow up there. Be sure to make a reservation as same day will most likely be completely sold out. I booked about a month in advance. There was only one guy working to handle everything, but he was great; very knowledgeable, helpful, and down to earth. He made sure we were not going to be a hazzard to ourselves or anyone else out on the trails, and explained all the areas on the map and what to avoid etc. One on our friends accidentally got their machine stuck and they helped get it out no questions asked and no judgement. We had originally booked 4 hours, and were advised we would probably only need 2, we ended up just doing an hour and it was perfect. If you are more experienced and want to head off trail I think more time would be needed. It was beautiful scenery. read more

Snowmobile's were very old. We had an employee following us throughout the trail even though it was a self guided tour. My friend ran into another snowmobile and caused some damage and was more than willing to pay for damages. The first thing they said without getting a real estimate for repairs was that he was going to have to pay $2,800 for repairs and they (employees) were visibly upset. Very unprofessional. Shit happens with rentals. They called the next day and my friend paid the $700 to repair even though we rented 5 snowmobiles at $150 ea. So total they made about $1500 for 2 hours. Bob is such a cool guy. We dropped in on Saturday to ask about rates and to find out if our 6 yr old boy could ride on the snow mobile with me. He explained everything to us and told us to give him a call in the morning and he would make sure he reserved 2 snowmobiles for us. So Sunday morning we called and told him what time we would be there and he told me he would have 2 skis fueled and waiting. When we got there everything was so easy. We have never ridden on s snowmobile before and Bob explained everything to us. It was so much fun and our family can't wait to come back soon. Wooohooo,, if you are looking to snowmobile definitely give this place a look! Me and two other friends went at around 2 and got in the last rental slot for 1 hour of good ol' snow mobilin' fun. We got 2 snow mobiles between the 3 of us and headed out onto the trail. The snow mobiles were all in great condition, and ran fine without stutter or problems. Zach (I think was his name) gave us a pretty detailed orientation on how to operate the snowmobile before we headed out and sent us out on our merry way. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience cruisin on a snow mobile. We only got to travel down the trail for the 1 hour rental so we didn't get to see all that the trail had to offer. We only got to reach one of the scenic view points, and headed a bit further out from there before heading back to the rendez-vous point to return our snow mobiles. If I could give this business 0 stars I would. I haven't a clue what their rental department is like, but their repairs department and customer service is non-existent. Two months ago I arranged to have my snow mobiles serviced. Ian (I guess, the owner) agreed that if I would drive them up from Murphy's Storage, and store them on my property in Sherman Acres (1.5 miles from his shop) that he would go pick them up, service them, and get them back to us the week after Thanksgiving. Not only did he forget about picking them up, when reminded he made false promises about "I'm getting them tonight after work". Not only did he NEVER pick them up, they are now buried under 1+ feet of snow and counting, and we can't get them out until next Spring! I wish Greg and Sandy still owned BVSM because under their watch this would have never happened. Be very wary of this business, and take your snowmobile repairs elsewhere. read more

These are great folks. They pride themselves on being fair and providing great service. Yes the prices are high it hurts a bit. But these are good machines, well maintained and lets face it renting out 10k+ machines for 4 months a year is a tough business model. Ever been to alaska? Riding down Rt 4 on a snowmobile is simply stunning and fun. Even if your not a 4wheeler type you have got to try it at least once. You won't be sorry. Neither will you be sorry doing business with these BV snowmobile folks. I'm happy to pay a fair price to good folks for good service and this place fits the bill. I think that Tom D. Says it all, "this is BEST place to rent snowmobiles!" Hands down. Scott and the rest of the team treated us great, and the new 4 stroke 600's were superb for us to venture off to Ebbets Pass, Highland Lakes, Mosquito Lakes, and Lake Alpine - oh and you have to stop and see the view that Cape Horn vista offers. It's simply breathtaking. I come to Bear Valley twice every year, once in Feb for the snow, and again in Oct to see the Aspen trees change colors. I think when I come in Oct, we're going to rent their ATVs and see what those are like. In short, these guys have a helpful and knowledgeable staff, top notch equipment, and their prices blow the doors on the competition ( I did the math, and figured out I saved about 22% total over the other guys). I rented 2 snowmobiles for the day, me and my wife took our two 11 year old girls up and over Hwy 4. All 4 of us had the best time. A definite must do again. read more

I've been going up to Bear Valley for years and love renting snowmobiles to go around the village and on "hikes" in the winter. Sean is always very helpful in getting us great snowmobiles quickly and training some of my friends who haven't been before on how to use them safely. Mother Nature apparently did not agree with our choice of a 4 hour ride. At about 1 hour in the manager, Sean, told us there was an 8ft vertical drop on the trail so we had to turn around. I got stuck turning around and he got mad that he had to dig me out. Wanted to charge me $100. Then when we got back 2 hours early they made us wait in the parking lot until our scheduled time was up. No refund for the shortened trip so be advised. Brought the 4 hours tour for $189. Took us only 2 hours! Told us that trail would be groomed up to Ebbetts Pass but pass the 1.5 mile marker it was not groomed at all. When we got back to the office they realized they groomed the Highland trail instead but didn't tell us. No refunds or discounts. Worst first time experience. They said there would be one of the crew members out checking in with us on the trail but not once did we see anyone. Won't be coming back here obviously. read more
