Great shop right on Hwy 4, in the middle of Arnold. They open at 8, and Bear Valley opens at 9. So get there at opening, and drive the 30 minutes. You can be first in line when the lifts open! There were several families there, but service was fast and efficient, and we were on our way in no time. The equipment was in decent shape. They have full Rossi rental packages. The boots were comfortable if not a little basic. The skis were in good condition. Everything looked fairly new. The poles were a little cheap, but who cares--they're just sticks right? We also got a demo package. Nicer Rossi boots plus Atomic skis. The previous week I tried the premium Rossi skis somewhere else, but these Atomics were hot. After I returned them, he offered to sell me a new pair that were on sale. Not this time, but I was tempted. The staff was friendly and knowledgable, without being overbearing or know it all. The were fast too. They sped us through our paperwork, we paid up front, and returned our stuff by 5:30 day of. Great experience overall! read more

I can't sing SNAC's praises enough. Max was amazing to work with and gave us top-notch recommendations of where to go, what to rent, for how long, and how to haul, including assurance that our truck would safely fit 4 adult sized kayaks without need of a trailer (which we also were able to reserve "just in case"). Knowing that our reservation was secure and that we'd have help loading, instruction on how to unload, and an easy return process made it so that we could enjoy our day out worry free. I can't wait until our next visit to Arnold so I can explore their other recommendations, but they have definitely set the bar for all water sport rental experiences going forward. We're from San Diego and have rented paddle boards from two companies local to us which were all positive, but our experience with SNAC was miles above in friendliness, attention to detail, and quality. This place is great. I called them one minute before closing to see if they had ski gear for my toddler, and they confirmed they did. We went in the next morning and they were backed up with a ton of people. I've seen other stores in busy tourist areas be short and impatient with their visitors when they're busy. This entire crew was totally professional and patient with us and the other guests. They also got things done quickly. They were very positive when interacting with my 3-year old who was going to be skiing for the first time. Many staff said encouraging things to her. The boots and skis they picked out for her fit perfectly, and she ended up having a great time. I had a bunch of other random questions given I was going to be teaching a toddler to ski for the first time, and they also gave helpful answers. Particularly if you're debating between here and Ebbetts Pass Sporting goods, I would strongly recommend SNAC. read more

We stopped by the Sierra Nevada Adventure Company to get some snow discs, as well as a Sno Park pass (which they sell at cost). The folks running this place were lovely and quite efficient, even with the huge numbers of people in the store trying to get their snow gear. The discs we got were slightly expensive, but of good quality, and they had many choices as to size, color, shape, etc. We also bought some discs for disc golf (again expensive, but of good quality and many choices). The shop also sells outdoor gear of all kinds, including a good selection of hiking boots, snow gear, outerwear, and accoutrements. Highly recommended if you need outdoor outfitting in the Sierras! read more

Ski and snowboard rental gear here is new and well maintained. Located about 40 minutes from Bear Valley it's convenient although getting out of the parking lot into opposing traffic is a bit difficult at the end of the day when an endless caravan of cars are headed home. They even have a boot drying rack with fans blowing to properly dry them. Other than the resort itself, this is the only rental place within miles so prices are steeper. read more

This store is great & has everything! There's a good apparel section full of brand names and cute mountain-inspired threads. They also have shoes, rentals for skiing, boarding, kayak & canoe. I found an awesome jacket here a few weeks ago. The prices tend to be on the higher side, but nothing out of the ordinary for the gear they sell. ie: Columbia, Roxie, Salomon etc. Its nice to come here when the seasons change because they have a good sale selection as well. This is the only store that I know of in the area that sells top brands and a great line of products for all your outdoor needs. read more

My friend and I went in and were greeted by a very rude clerk with short hair. She said I needed a mask and said she is 73 years old and wants to stay healthy, thank you. However, my friend noticed two women standing at the counter near her with no masks on so apparently she's selective on who can wear a mask in there and who cannot. We had a great experience renting kayaks here. I have a very small car and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to haul two kayaks up to the reservoir. Turns out that two kayaks fit just fine and the guys at SNAC were great with helping me load them on top of my car. They also suggested renting a canoe for doing boat-in camping next time. The guy even measured my car to see if a canoe would fit and he said it would! We'll be back for that canoe!! read more

Very good customer service and decent prices for rentals. We reserved two stand up paddle boards (kayaks really, by choice) and paid $40 and $45 for an 11 foot and 12.5 foot respectively. They took the $20/kayak deposit in advance and we paid the remainder when we picked up. They provided one life vest per kayak and helped tie em up to the top, giving a little instruction to the inexperienced ones on how to paddle. Totally helpful for their reference. Returning them was a breeze and they put forth the rental price towards a board purchase... not bad pricing for those either, but we weren't in the market at the moment (plus live in LA, so we didn't have our SUV to take em home). Totally recommend this place if you're heading up to one of the lakes... I'm only guessing we'd be back!!! read more

This is a fine store, a small mountain outfitter that caters to the family that loves the outdoors. They have a small but essential selection of gear and tools, tons of clothes for the climes, and good books on local flora and fauna. Frisbee golf? Look no further. Equipment rentals? Perfect place to pick up rental snow gear before hitting up Bear Valley. Customer service wasn't stellar, but the prices cannot be beat. $10 for my friend's hot belt wax, and $26 for my adult Rossignol skis and poles rental for the day. They're open from 8 AM to 6 PM, which fits perfectly with Bear Valley's operations from 9 AM - 4 PM. The rental skis maneuvered perfectly, and I saved myself $15! Also, no reservations, so first come first served. They're efficient, so you'll be in&outta there quickly, itching to hit the slopes. read more

These guys are cool, and full of good stuff. They rent kayaks, canoes, and other stuff, and always have a good and full stock of useful gear from the latest shoes and equipment, to portable camping toilets. Yes you heard me right, I've not even seen this at REI. This is a tiny store, yet they seem to have it all. This is one of the only camping/outdoor stores I know of in the area, with a full stock. Your only other option that I know of up highway four afterwards is in Bear Valley, with a MUCH more limited selection. What a great place. We walked in to rent some snowshoes and the staff was very informative. They picked out the right snowshoes for us and actually gave us a demonstration on how to use them. I even had an old ski pole that needed a new basket and the owner went and found one that would work and even put it on for me. I would recommend this place for all of your outdoor needs. read more

Customer service is beyond what you normally expect these days! It is how is supposed to be! I got a really fair price on a brand new Arbor board, was treated with the upmost respect, they explained to me all the nuances and differences on each board, and at one point when I mentioned another board that I had seen online, (I wish I knew the gentleman's name that helped me, but I will go back there and find out and re-posted) he took his time went online and explained to me his true opinion! Never once pressuring me to purchase from him or putting down other options! SUPPORT your "local" store and stop by when visiting the area, you will not regret it! PS: They have much better rental equipment if you are going to Bear Valley and is cheaper! A win win!!! read more
