Then after the routine medical questions, she proceeded to take out pamphlets with pictures about brushing and flossing and ~reading~ them to me. She got upset when I rolled my eyes at her. Dr. Thompson seemed competent, but she was distant, and cold. Then I was told, after all the talk about keeping my teeth clean, that they didn't have time to clean my teeth and the next time I could get an appointment for cleaning was at least 6 weeks away. The BEST pediatric dentist they had left and their "replacement" is mediocre at best. They have now refused to treat my youngest child (5 years old) because she was cautious with the new dentist, who after a couple minutes of condescending lines that my daughter wasn't buying into, proclaimed she was "too difficult of a child and you need to take her elsewhere". the place they referred us to was over an hour drive each way, and required a minimum of THREE appointments! Ever try taking FOUR kids to a place like the DENTIST to sit in a waiting room after an HOUR drive? good luck. I just today needed to cancel an appointment they set up six months ago because of more urgent appointments and was given an attitude over not calling sooner. I get better treatment from their Pediatrician's office. Why aren't dental "professionals" required to behave like the REST of the medical profession?

I believe that they were competent even though a few radiographs had to be retaken by a trainee. Now the bad. I have never had anywhere NEAR as many radiographic views/exposures in all of my years of dentistry (and they are a lot of years). When it came time for the $$ shock and the upsells (here is a screening you might want, here is a substance we could use, here is a medicine that could help) which came to $1000 (for an asymptomatic patient with a few erosions and some plaque) I said, "Hey, how about I just stick with the basic cleaning my insurance covers?" I was told no, that they could not possibly do a basic cleaning, and that I would have to pay nearly $500 for the advanced ultrasound cleaning first. It's one thing to upsell, but another entirely to refuse a patient basic care because I don't want to pay for suggested bells and whistles. Stay FAR away.

My only complaint is that the wait times between appointments are woefully long; I have had two cleanings with outstanding work still needing doing and will probably have another before my issues are completely resolved. Also, getting prescriptions out of them is a hassle; I have extremely sensitive teeth on the left side of my mouth and one time they gave me something for the pain and refused to refill it so I had to go to my PCP; same deal for antibiotics because the dentist said no problems showed on the x-rays.

Additionally, trying to call to get an appointment or cancel an appt. Is all but impossible...unless you have 15-20 minutes to stay on the phone listening to their hold music. After getting sick I had to cancel an appt as I didn't want to get anyone else sick. I called numerous times two days before the scheduled appt. and never got through. I finally left a message. Apparently they don't listen to those because the day after my scheduled appt they called to tell me I was no longer their patient. Now we're left without a dentist (probably for the best because they're terrible) but hopefully this will save others from their terrible treatment. Now I have two cracked molars, haven't been able to eat for 3 days due to pain and they refused to give me a referral to see another dentist so I can get them pulled out! The…read morelast time I was at AMD my dentist was Dr Dao, a Black woman with a Caribbean accent who did exemplary work. I had a tooth that had broken and she rebuilt it with compound. It held for three years and then crumbled on Christmas Day a couple years ago. It took me some time to get an appointment because Medicaid was giving me problems. But I finally got in. The guy did two things: 1) He adjusted my dentures so they would fit without adhesive. 2) He told me the tooth needed a crown and my insurance wouldn't cover it. I should mention in passing that he never told me his name nor did he address me by mine. When I tried to explain what Dr Dao had done and ask him why he couldn't do the same as she had, he barked at me "I am not arguing with you." and he threw me out of the room. I've no idea if this was Nelson or someone else, but his behavior towards me was appalling and if that is what they call "dental care" they can keep it.

About 1/3 of the way through the procedure he abruptly quits, informing me he can't continue because he lacks the equipment necessary for the "small canal opening". Something, as the patient, I fully trusted the dentist would be prepared for. Although he did give me a referral, the endodontic group doesn't accept our insurance and we have been unable to find a specialist in this area within 100 miles that accepts our insurance. He hastily put a very temporary patch over the hole (metal in the front of my mouth!) it has since fallen out and the pain is unbearable.
