I called another place and they towed it to his shop. He fixed the car in 3 days. So went from whole new motor to fixed in 3 days. Make sure you check out who's going to work on your cars. Apparently making a correct diagnosis is not an option here. But they were OK with changing my son 160 bucks for towing the car.

In fact they keep my 1995 Geo Prism running beautifully despite my often indelicate and irresponsible treatment of the poor, dear thing. I've gone there for my inspections for the past several years and for some major and minor repair work as well. Each and every time I could not have been happier with the results. I LOVE these guys. They are super nice and respectful, not intimidating, fair, and fast. They do GREAT WORK and they will not charge you and arm and a leg to do it. Because they are located at the corner of 25th and Carson, you can kill time at the nearby South Side Works. So shop, eat, watch a movie - and one of the guys will call you on your cell when your car is ready. Write them a check and drive off into the sunset with your motor purrin'.

They wanted $1100 to fix all of that in order to pass the inspection. I told them to fail the inspection and took it to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic welded and fixed the exhaust (without replacing it) and checked the rotors (which were fine) and passed the state inspection and emissions test. He was able to do this all for $200. Do not go here. They will overprice you so much. They will exaggerate any issues that are on your car and try to make unnecessary notifications.

On March 26, 2024 I had my car towed to McCune Auto Repair. I had already had the codes read and provided that information to Tim so we had an idea of what the problem was. Here is how it progressed from there: On April 3, I called and asked about my car. Was told there was a death in the family and he didn't get to it yet. Totally understandable so that wasn't a problem. On April 10, I texted asking for an update to see if he knew what was wrong yet or to get a quote on what it will cost. No response. On April 17, I texted explaining that I really needed an update to see if it was going to be much longer as I may have to rent a car. Up to this point I was getting rides and borrowing my husband's car to get to work. This was becoming problematic and an inconvenience to the friends providing taxi service. Tim responded back to me immediately with "Sure Bev, I'll get to it asap." I let another week go buy and took a week vacation from work hoping he would finish my car. My husband stopped up to see if he was finished but the shop was closed in the middle of the day. My car was still in the parking lot and not worked on. On April 28, we had finally had enough of no contact. We went to the shop to see what was going on. Again, the shop was locked and no one was around at around 3pm. My husband was able to get the car started and we limped it to another garage. The car required new injectors and a fuel pump. Parts were under $400 and I had my car back in 4 days. I am not sure what is going on with Tim. As I said Tim is a very good mechanic and his work is exemplary, but I cannot recommend his shop anymore. The lack of communication and disregard for my time is extremely disappointing.

Tim was more than helpful, showed me the damage and explained the costs associated. I read a review from several years ago saying that he was overcharged and really don't know where this came from. There were a few things that had to be replaced that hadn't failed yet but made more sense to change now than to pay again for labor to tear the suspension down (ball joints.) but everything was handled fairly and expeditiously. Had a series of repairs done at this shop at the beginning of the year. Each time they fixed a…read moresensor, another went within a couple of days. The last time I had my car here I went to pick up after the work was completed at the arranged time of 4pm and my car was not there, no one was at the shop, and no one would answer. When they returned my car finally (after repairing a speed sensor) the check engine light came back on before i reached my house. I called and left voicemails which were never returned. Eventually I had the issue diagnosed at another shop - the speed sensor S&G "fixed" was JB welded in crooked as they had busted a bolt when removing the bad sensor. Rather then drill out the bolt and replaced it, they just JB welded it into place (not properly positioned). After paying S&G $300-400 for this job, I then had to pay another shop $2,400 to resolve this issue and replace my entire hub. S&G Auto will NOT return or answer my calls. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE
