I really enjoyed my trip to the museum and the Rhyolite Ghost Town. The museum guide was informative and very friendly; it truly added to the experience. We were dazzled by the Mark Twain's signature in one of his own books, the first cordless calculator by Edison and the jack rabbit milk can in an old fridge. What was equally impressive was the organization and care given to the exhibits. These exhibits will, eventually, be reorganized in the addition Amina, our guide, built herself! Wow, I find museums interesting but the fact that someone like Amina can tell you a lot about the exhibits and has enough passion to want to expand its ability to be seen by others makes the experience unforgettable. There is history in the museum that is very interesting. Especially the information about the gold mining and how the mining stopped just before they were able to reach a huge vein of gold. (Sounds like I could have some fun with a new hobby.) Go the Rhyolite Ghost Town and take some fun pictures with your companions, then visit the museum and finally grab some grub for a fun day trip. I really enjoyed my time in Beatty.

It's a really nice small town museum that captures much of the rich history of the town and surrounding areas, especially the local ghost town of Rhyolite.

Lots of relevant interesting items. The hostess was super friendly and had information about the area. Plus she directed us to other places of interest. Stop in and explore. Free but of course drop a few bucks to help out.

We stopped by here while on our way to Rhyolite (they helped us find it). The museum is a tad small, with a lot on local mines and of course Rhyolite itself but really wasn't all that amazing. Being a Death Valley fan as I am, I really do enjoy these little museums. I find a lot of interest in the local mining history which are now ghost towns. I'd only suggest it to people such as myself.

Going into the visitor's center requires driving through some unpaved roads, but it's not bad. The woman who helped us out was so nice and such a pleasure to chat with about the area. And she helped set our kids up with Junior Ranger books and gave them hints to get them started. At the visitor's center, there's also a room where they show a short movie about the area. The exhibits around the center are likewise very informative and interactive - the kids loved them! The shop is small but stocked well. The entrance to Crystal Springs is right outside and is a short walk. Out there, there are informative signs, and 2 sets of binoculars towards the center, which is shaded. The path is a boardwalk, and we saw a lot of birds, jackrabbits, and lizards. We also heard a snake at one point. Towards the farthest area of the walk, the water feeding the spring becomes visible, and there are some small fish! The spring itself is beautiful. Such crystal clear water, and it's like a deep bluish green.

This NWR is an amazing place to hike, bird watch and just enjoy nature away from everything. There…read moreare so many great boardwalks and trails and a big nice visitor center. There are so many different areas with springs to explore. You can see rare fish in some spots and many great desert birds. Being binoculars and a camera if you're so inclined! You can also visit the Longstreet Cabin, although we didn't have time to.
