I started taking guitar lessons with Beau almost 2 years ago after having played guitar for almost 8 years. Beau completely changed the way that I viewed the instrument and helped me become a better guitarist and more well rounded musician. I first came to him because I had always struggled with playing music up to speed cleanly and he taught me how to really break down a song and practice it measure by measure using a metronome. He would analyze my technique and make corrections as I played. I learned early on that I had developed a lot of bad habits that I needed to unlearn and slowly correct over time which was our primary focus early on. This methodology would become a tremendous tool for me to help me quickly learn songs and solos correctly and cleanly especially since I was primarily focused on fast metal solos and rhythms. Soon after I began to take interest in other aspects of musicianship and Beau was always receptive and open to helping me with whatever I wanted to focus on beyond just playing my favorite metal riffs and solos. This is in my opinion Beau's biggest strength, always being open and communicative about enjoying the journey and allowing the student to present topics they are interested in and diving in head on. We worked a lot on music theory and the fundamentals of the major scale and how it can be applied all across the fretboard. He taught me how to use the major scale in order to create chords, triads, how to create chord progression from it, and even transform it into the various modes. We dove into various rhythm training exercises which helped me tremendously with keeping in time with a metronome and taught me a lot about various techniques for staying in the pocket while focusing on complex rhythms. At some point I burnt out and decided to even take piano lessons to switch things up, which Beau was receptive of and just wanted me to continue enjoying music and having it play a role in my life. I know I came out a better guitarist and musician because of Beaus help and I highly recommend him as a teacher. A friend of ours had their son taking ukulele lessons from Beau so we had our son start with him with the ukulele and our daughter began keyboard lessons. Seriously, Beau has a deep understanding of music theory as well as the psychological roadblocks that can limit our improvement at learning an instrument. We've been working together once a week for about seven months on classical guitar. In that time, Beau has taught me much about music theory, how to appropriately criticize and correct one's own mistakes, common-sense approaches to difficult guitar techniques, even how to pick apart a "new to you" song and learn it in a quick and replicable manner. I've had several guitar teachers in the past and none were as good as Beau. They were all just guitar players giving lessons. Beau is an actual teacher. He's very patient and is teaching me the theory and technique I need to achieve the next level. He also sends a PDF of your lesson. So if you forget something, which I always do, you can refer back the notes and instructions. That is truly an amazing feature to have from a teacher. I've been playing for over 30 years, but not at a great level. He's taught me a few nuances that I was doing wrong to improve my playing. True story... I always thought my guitar and pickups sounded crappy and muddy. And I always thought my picking hand was great. But then Beau showed me a different way to pick the strings and now the guitar sounds clear when I play. Another true story... His teaching skills and personality are very motivating and not pushy. I was learning so much that I was so motivated to not just play, BUT TO PRACTICE, that I actually got tennis elbow! My schedule is also a bit crazy and Beau is very flexible and understanding.
