I booked a massage in October 2018 at Beaubien. The masseuse didn't seem to know what she was doing and she didn't seem to understand my requests to change pressure. I paid, tipped, and decided not to return. I chalked it up to a bad experience and figured I'd find another place in town I liked. A few months later, I received a call from the owner telling me the masseuse who worked on me was no longer there and they were inviting clients back to see how much better the new masseuse was. I think throwing a former employee under the bus is pretty poor form but that isn't the reason I declined to come back. I just didn't want to spend money at a place that had already disappointed me. Since then, they've subscribed me to their text messages without my consent. I've unsubscribed multiple times and about every six months, new text messages arrive. The same goes for their email. I have unsubscribed multiple times and finally emailed directly last week to ask them to please remove me from their list. Yesterday, they sent me ANOTHER email from their list. They clearly don't care about spamming people and retain client information that they shouldn't. This is just bad business and highly unprofessional. I highly recommend you go anywhere other than Beaubien for a massage. read more

This is a PRENATAL massage is a must!! They have the most comfortable prenatal in town. The massage was awesome and she was very attune to my needs. Everyone was really friendly. What a great experience! Beaubien Bodyworks offers a new client deal that I was happy to take advantage of! For only $99, the deal included a full body massage and a facial, both at an hour each. This was a phenomenal offer and I enjoyed being able to spend the day relaxing and being pampered! All of the staff was kind, professional, and accommodating. They were very aware of my allergies and took special care to ensure my safety, which I greatly appreciated! Included in their services were hot drinks, a warm fuzzy robe, and a pamphlet with 2 additional offers for new clients (skin and hair). I certainly plan to go back but due to the high normal prices of the services, I won't be able to return on a regular basis. Nevertheless, I will be happy to come back for my next special occasion!!! read more

I bought a haircut, full highlights, and blowout package for $90, the listed value was for $180. Making an appointment was easy, and at first I was impressed with the presentation of the salon. However I waited over an hour after my scheduled appointment time. Luckily I wasn't in a hurry and was trying to be as accommodating as possible because I know pre-holidays can be chaotic and unpredictable for many salons and other places. I am fine with the haircut I received, even though it's clear not all of my split ends are gone. I wanted to keep as much length as possible and that's what I got. I also wanted to do all over color with a few highlights, which is slightly different than what the Groupon was for, and the hairdresser was accommodating to this, although quite a hefty fee was added on to the service. I understood this for the most part, even though it seems to me an all over color and a small amount of highlights would be a simpler/less expensive/time consuming task than all over highlights, which is what I initially paid for. I was just glad they were accommodating. The hairdresser was responsive to my discussion of what I wanted with my hair (darker base color, subtle, blended, ashy highlights on my already quite dark, very long hair), and looked at the example pictures that I brought along with me. However what I received was absolutely not even remotely similar to what I showed or discussed with her. I got a darker all over color, and then several chunky, bright yellow/gold, unblended highlights that were quite streaky and looked like they were already very grown-out with how bluntly they began about an inch down from my scalp. They were unevenly spaced and even aside from the questionable placement, they were not even close to the subtle, ashy tone I wanted. I understand that working with chemicals and bleach and toner can be unpredictable, and everyone's hair is different. But this was just unacceptable. I was feeling uneasy by the end of the appointment, and the hairdresser did not give me a chance to look over the work myself, or give me a mirror to see the back of my head. The lighting in the salon is atrocious anyway. I decided to check it out at home (assuming I'd like it more under light I was familiar with), and went to pay. This is when the woman at the front desk told me that she's glad I wasn't in a rush since I had to wait an hour for my appointment to begin. She said that ordinarily they'd "beg forgiveness" or "reschedule or discount" the service I'd gotten, but since I was a Groupon customer the service was already heavily discounted. This is so inappropriate. A customer who is trying a service through Groupon shouldn't be treated any lesser than any other client. In fact you should be trying to IMPRESS these new clients to grow your business, not insulting them by basically saying any other customer would be treated with more respect. Regardless, I paid the hefty extra fee, as well as a very generous tip. When I got home and saw the full extent of the bad highlights, my first instinct was to go to the nearest drugstore and grab some box dye. I also noticed my scalp was absolutely CAKED WITH DYE that had been left unwashed, and my scalp was beginning to burn because of it. I had to wash it out myself. Instead of going out and getting box dye, I e-mailed the salon with photos of the dye job and asked for a correction appointment. The salon scheduled an appointment for a few days later with the same stylist. I was extremely apprehensive but wanted to give Beaubien a chance to make things right. I went in and asked for the highlights to be extremely toned down. I did not want another attempt at highlights. The hairdresser put a darker color over the highlights so they mostly match the dark base, half-dried my hair, and called the appointment done. This is when who I presumed to be the owner of the salon came out and tried to gush over the new look, saying it was pretty. Yeah, right. If you want to make things right with something that very very clearly went wrong, you go above and beyond to make things right. At this point I was just disappointed and upset and wanted to leave. The highlights are now barely visible, which is the best I could hope for given how they started out. But at this point it's extremely off the mark and not at all what I expected for the amount I paid and the service I was promised. I paid nearly $200 for something I could have gotten with a couple boxes of hair dye and some spare time on a weeknight. I will not go back to this studio or recommend it to anyone I know unless I want them to waste their time and money. UPDATE: I posted this review on Google Reviews and the salon responded. They were extremely rude, basically saying I was at fault for my hair looking bad. This has diminished my view of this salon even further. DO NOT GIVE THIS BUSINESS YOUR MONEY. read more

Decided to try out Beaubien after hearing about it on Groupon. So glad I did. I got a partial highlight & cut yesterday with Sam. She was fantastic! My color looks so beautiful - Sam carefully listened to what I wanted & delivered! She was sweet, thoughtful & made me feel like a valued client. I was dissatisfied with my hair service. The blonde color did not come out anywhere as expected and I was told that I would have to pay for the color correction. I have had other stylists lift my "dirty blonde" natural color to platinum blonde in one visit before and was anticipating the same results. Instead, my hair is brassy yellow, even with a toner application. The owner was not very professional both on the phone before my scheduled appointment as well as in person. When I spend $175 on my hair I really expect better customer service and results. I will say that my stylist was incredibly friendly and sweet and gave me a wonderful haircut. I will probably not return to this salon but would recommend them for haircuts at the very least. read more

This is a wonderful salon located on Wealthy Street in the East Hills neighborhood. I have received several hair services from Tara and they have been excellent! Tara is friendly and knowledgeable. Each time I visit, I learn something new to help me have good hair days all on my own. All the products used in the salon are organic, work like a dream and smell amazing! I went there yesterday for the first time for a deep tissue massage and it was amazing to say the least! I walked away feeling like a new person. Denine really took care to work out the knots in my back and neck and I will definitely be back! I highly recommend her if you need your knots worked out, but also looking to fully relax. And I highly recommend her! It's hard to find a great massage therapist who knows exactly what you need and the pressure you need. I like medium-hard pressure and she definitely delivered. My niece and I had 90 minute hot stone massages at Beaubien Bodyworks this week. This was our first time here and we couldn't have been happier with the massages that we got! First, just setting up the appointment was great as lady on the phone was very thorough about explaining all the options, massage therapists experience, and the location and parking of the salon. On the day of our appointment, the receptionist was super friendly and explained everything very well, too. The atmosphere is very peaceful, tastefully decorated, and clean. When it came time for our massages, the therapists were very engaged in hearing what areas we wanted worked on. In the past, I haven't really cared for hot stone massages because the therapists really only rubbed the stones over my body. I have knots, I need them worked on! At Beaubien, the therapists listen to what you want and use deep tissue massaging if necessary. Also, they were very professional and took their time. They didn't act like they were watching the clock to get rid of you. I highly recommend this salon. We can't wait to go back! read more

hit it or quit it: hit it and thank me later. snapshot: a well appointed and staffed holistic spa in downtown grand rapids that focuses on massage but also offers other services, these guys know their massages. full review: you walk up to a small unit off a main road (next door to Squibb, bonus!) that's almost downtown. you're greeted by good a clean contemporary store front; parking can be had on the street or in back. walking in you'll be welcomed with typical but good massage spa fare (diffuser, plants, soft lighting meditation music, etc.). i'm not mad at it. they have a few chairs off to the right where people get their hurr did. the menu of services is quite expansive; prices are competitive. i come here for massages and massages only. however, they have lots of other things like hair cuts and facials that i'm sure people find useful but isn't for me. most importantly these guys know how to give a good massage. you can get the usual spread here but you can also get other things like ashiatsu. now medical massage is not expressly offered here, BUT, the masseuses are knowledgeable enough to give you a similar effect. i have paid for a one hour deep tissue and received a massage that was tailored to my tastes on multiple occasions; this includes elements of thai and ashiatsu thrown in (the stretch hurts SO good). they have a good deep bench of staff and great hours so i can almost always get in no matter the notice. i am now a 'member', not a true membership plan per se. i pay whatever i want a month (in my case 90 bucks) that goes towards any service and i'm rewarded with a 10% discount on said services. this covers a one hour deep tissue plus tip for me. if i go again that month, i still get the discount. overall i'm very happy with Beaubien due to their convenient location, flexibility to work around my busy schedule that stems from their staff and schedule, and of course their great quality and variety of massages; the appealing ambience is the cherry on top. their prices are competitive with the area and the monthly payment helps tip that in Beaubien's favor. get relaxed here and tell 'em Rizvi sent ya! nothing will happen but i'm making it a thing. like 'fetch'. read more
