I had a really subpar experience here last week with one of their stylists. I booked through classpass to have a full highlight and wasn't able to choose my stylist. I knew going into it with the discount that I might not get the most experienced but I was very disappointed. I thought I made it clear during the consult what I wanted. She overfoiled and made more work for herself and ended up taking almost 5 hours for just a highlight and tone and simple blowout. I wanted lived in piecey golden honey highlights and left with very ashy strawberry blonde almost all over color. I couldn't really say much because to fix it would have taken even longer and now I've also noticed my hair feeling extremely dry and damaged. I know that I got an extreme discount using classpass but I'm really disappointed with my result and experience. read more

I'm obsessed with Chasing Vanity Med Spa and Salon! It is fabulous on every level! It's literally gorgeous and the energy of everyone who works here is WONDERFUL! The Spa side does injectables (Botox, etc.), microblading, facials, (brows) and massages, The salon side does everything hair, nails, lashes, makeup for weddings, etc ... I mean this place covers everything! I had Dawn put some Botox and filler in my face. Omg... She was the best! She did such a great job.... I'm just really happy with it. Actually I've gone here for many years just for haircuts and I was very happy, always good cuts. However, I just got my first coloring done there and it washed out in 4 washes (2 weeks). I bought the shampoo and conditioner they sell with the color in it, to help with fading but I didn't think it would fade this quickly. I've personally dyed my hair many colors and that's never happened. They do seem to call their dyes "gloss" so maybe that's why? I don't know enough to say that. It just sounds like a color tint, more than permanent. It was $330 so that kind of sucks. read more

I found this place using YELP, and it is conveniently located on a corner of Wealthy just a few blocks off the highway, with parking in back and on the side streets. I was early and greeted warmly at the door. They told me the name of the lady who would be working on me was finishing up and would be available shortly. She was very sweet (Ellie?), and led me back to the massage chairs in the back of the studio. The water was warm, the view of the street was nice, and they had GQ (men's magazines). The massage chairs were high tech, with lots of buttons to enjoy. Now my feet aren't the worst, but sometimes you just need a little professional help. Ellie did a great job (could've worked the heels a bit more, but I didn't mention it so it's not her fault). Clean painless cuts, warm ticklish salt scrub, moisturizer... was afraid I'd slip off of my own feet. Needless to say, I was very happy! What an unfortunate experience. This business sends frequent promotional texts regarding sales to your personal phone and if you opt out, you no longer receive appointment reminders. Just paid a stylist 165.00 in a cancellation fee for an appointment I had not received any reminders on. I Was really optimistic for this salon based on recommendations but will not be returning due to non-informative business practices that disadvantage the customer. The front desk ladies make checking you in for your appointment their first priority and always offer to take your coat/jacket as well as make you a fresh cup of coffee or some cold water with lemon. This was my first time here and I really enjoyed the experience. I booked online, which was easy to do. When I arrived, I was immediately greeted and the receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. Courtney, my stylist, arrived within 5 minutes and was super friendly. I wasn't sure what kind of style I wanted when I arrived, but she helped me through the decision process yet never made me feel rushed on the decision. I had a great haircut and nice conversation. (I opted for just a women's haircut - it cost $30). The salon was clean and not overwhelmingly bright or loud. Altogether, a very nice experience. I recently had a hydra facial on the move. I've had them several times before at another facility on the east side of the state, I'm new to the Grand Rapids area. I was pretty disappointed with the Service. I'm not sure if the technician was new to this type of treatment, but the results were pretty underwhelming compared to what I've had in the past. My daughter had hair extensions put in here by Ellie. Initially they were only going to add two packs of hair (she's got a lot of thick hair), but ended up adding a third pack of hair because it wasn't blending. Well, a third pack wasn't enough either. She went back to show them how it wasn't blended at all, and they chopped some layers into her hair but it made no difference. In the end she has a bob that shows 100% of the time whether it is curled or not, with 20" extensions in the back. It looks RIDICULOUS. We asked for a refund, instead I got lectured on how to maintain the integrity of the extensions. The manager (seriously rude and not the brightest) did offer a fourth pack of hair for free. I wouldn't let them TOUCH her hair again. Terrible service. Extensions look horrible. Run away as fast as you can! Pics to follow. read more

Do not trust their online communication system or online booking. I booked something two weeks out and the night before the appointment received a confirmation text. The next morning I received a text saying the appointment was canceled because the stylist decided not to come into work because of fears of covid-19. Of course there were no other appointments available anytime soon. This is not a way to run things and the salon should have verified that their customers could be accommodated. If they are giving their people the option to no show at the last minute then they should be checking with their stylists every day to make sure they can fulfill the appointments that have been booked for them. Ellie did a great job on my hair! Being a blonde with very fine hair, I have a very hard time finding a stylist that actually listens about how my hair reacts to certain colors. Ellie, didn't make me feel rushed or like she just 'knew it all' when I told her what I wanted and what shades my hair can/can't handle. I also had to explain to her that I'm recovering from back surgery and she was so understanding! She even helped me in and out of the chair and kept checking to make sure I wasn't too uncomfortable from sitting too long. My hair looks and feels amazing. The only down side is that it was $50 just for a trim. But she did she got my dead ends off without completely butchering the length like I wanted so, it's okay. I'd rather pay a little more to have it done right I guess. I don't live in Grand Rapids but, if I need my hair done next time I visit I will definitely come to her again. Thanks Ellie! This salon did my bridesmaids and my hair and makeup for my wedding this last December and they did a fantastic job. The owner Liz is a wonderful person with amazing talent that listened to all my concerns and eradicated them. From my trial to the actual day of the wedding she took the time to make sure everything was perfect and exactly how we all wanted it. Even when one of my bridesmaids already had her hair done and she felt like she needed adjustments last minute she just mentioned what she wanted fixed and they went back and changed it. I went here for a mani/pedi when I was in town visiting family and I really enjoyed it! It's a wonderful environment, but still very professional, which I haven't experienced in other salons I've been to. I cannot recommend this hair salon. The owners have no business ethic as demonstrated by their lack of concern when it comes to their customer's dissatisfaction with their services. That, in and of itself, is objectionable, but it is even more intolerable when they grudgingly agree to resolve the issue, and end up doing nothing to resolve it. I experienced this firsthand on my daughter's wedding day. The hairdresser, who did hair, did a very poor job. Within 10 minutes of leaving the salon, the hair pins holding my up-do in place, fell out. I ended up rushing to another salon in the city to fix my hair, since they had no one to fix my hair at that moment. I asked for partial reimbursement, since I ended up paying an additional $60.00 for a 2nd salon to do my hair. After arguing with two of the owners over compensation, I was told they would reimburse one half of my cost. That never happened. So, their decision to use deceit and lies to temporarily appease me, should tell any current or prospective customer that they cannot trust the owners to do right by their clients. They cannot even be trusted to honestly promote their stylists' work. They obviously didn't care that the stylist who did my up-do, did not have the skills to create it. I would suggest you skip Chasing Vanity and go to Cheeky Strut instead. Cheeky Strut is a far better salon with highly skilled stylists. read more

I first came to Chasing Vanity about a year ago on a recommendation and have visited several more times over this past year and have loved my every experience. I always see Elisabeth, the owner and am never disappointed with my result. In fact, she is the only hair stylist that consistently gives me perfect results every time. The fist time she cut, colored and styled my hair, I literally thought "omg I have movie star hair". I've had my hair done here before my engagement pictures and most recently colored before my wedding, and again I get a perfect result. Lis is really good at knowing what styles are flattering for your hair type, face shape and lifestyle. I trust her completely to know what will work best for me. I love the look of the salon, all of the employees are really sweet and helpful, and I love the product lines that they offer. No one pressures you to buy any of the products like they do at other places, and I love that you can book appointments online. I recently referred a girlfriend here and while she couldn't get in with Lis on the day she wanted to, she was able to get in with someone else and also loved her experience.
