I have been a 4 times per week active member of the Wardle Family YMCA for almost 2 years now. I love the classes, especially the Water Fitness and Barre Classes! I want Management to know that their strongest asset is their people! In particular, a delightful young woman who runs the front desk by the name of Mel Schiller. She is quite literally the face and the voice of the place called The Beaufort-Jasper YMCA! Mel is so very welcoming, capable, and positive! Wise beyond her years with such a strong "can do" work ethic! I recently switched up my insurance coverage and Mel was instrumental in helping my navigate all of my options. I hope that you know what a positive difference she makes in my day, when I don't see her smiling face upon entering your lobby (for my two and a half hours workout, three times a week) I don't feel the same sense of community as I do with Mel so masterfully welcoming and multi tasking all the many responsibilities she has at the front desk, for so many of us, and all with a great big smile on her face! In the beginning this place was fantastic so I entrusted them to take care of my children. The first incident was when my son fell of the slide. He said that there wasn't any childcare watching nor did they call me to let me know what happened. Well that evening I took my kid to the hospital because he dislocated his shoulder. My advice to them is kids will be kids but when something happens let us know. The second incident that occurred was with a bully. My son and his friend were playing and the bully came and called my son's friend a racist remark. Now the kid told his mom that my son said it and we were called into the YMCA director's office. The truth came out that it was the bully (who was african american) calling my son's friend a- racist word who was also african-american. The result? I was told that my son should be mindful of his words (my son is bi-racial filipino,white, and mexican) eventhough they knew he was not at fault!! I felt that was a slap in the face since my kid was innocent. Since that day I removed my children from childcare with them. COME ON Beaufort-Jasper YMCA BE BETTER!! read more

If you're thinking about bringing your kids here for summer camp, don't. The staff here is so shady with hidden fees that they don't warn you about. They're not helpful whatsoever. Lawrence being a "director" not helpful. Ebony being a "director" not helpful. I expressed my concerns & issue to them MULTIPLE times and they just seem not to care. As long as they're getting paid they do not care to go above and beyond to help their Y members or to simply make you feel valued during an issue, and that has been clearly proven. Aside from the hidden fees that they don't warn you about PRIOR TO ENROLLING , my kid overall did not enjoy summer camp here. Lack of communication within the staff & passing information down to parents. Throughout the past year I have recommended this place to a handful of friends but I will no longer be supporting this facility. I will be canceling my membership and never telling anyone to enroll here. You're better off going to the Foundry. You would think when you go to the gym every single day without failure to a point that staff members know you, they would try to in some sort help you. Overall shady shady place. read more

Nice facility offering indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, hot tub, spin room, basketball court, large bright exercise room with bikes/ellipticals/treadmills/etc. They offer typical group ex classes - cardio, Zumba, kickboxing, yoga. They also have personal training packages. They have offerings for young and old. There are a lot of summer camp programs and schools use the facilities so you may have to time your visit for some of these. Reasonably priced at different membership categories ranging from $31-73/mo - single youth to full family. read more

Beaufort-Jasper YMCA - Business hours - Gyms Near Me - Port Royal, South Carolina

I have been a Y Member at Port Royal since 2008 and left about 2 years ago. Not an engaging or friendly atmosphere. Y Management, including the 2 head Directors and the Wellness Manager would never speak, 3 of the most unhappy people I have ever met. The face of the Y is a lady named Tracey who made one feel so welcome and comfortable and had been there for years, was terminated. Equipment purchases were made with no clue as to how to pay for them so in addition to paying a monthly membership, one had to pay addition dollars if they cared to participate in that program. I felt little positive energy at this facility so decided to make a change for the better. read more

Have been working out here for a little while but have failed to notice any massive gains. While the equipment is in good condition, sometimes other people are using it before me so I have to wait. Employees are usually nice but they typically do not compliment the numbers I am putting out which I would appreciate it if they did. As far as picking up women, I have been unsuccessful in that department. Whether or not this is because of the Y I do not know. Will keep updated if things change. read more
