Five stars each for the wranglers and the horses. Horses seem well cared for (I am a horse owner) and happier than you usually find In these situations. Wranglers were friendly and helpful. Zero stars for the Napoleon Bonaparte who is apparently the owner. His anger goes from zero to 100 in a moment. Someone else who had a negative experience said that he has kidney stones. I am a physician and there is treatment for that and for his anger management issues. He should not be working with the public. The horse ride is definitely worth it and my grandsons loved it. But tread lightly around Napoleon! read more

Horseback riding was an interesting experience. The staff were super serious. No laughs or smiles. The efficient system of gettin us onto the horses made us feel a bit like we were on a conveyer belt in a factory. Having said that, there were several wranglers helping keep the horses in line, but it was stressful to hear the commands being shouted out, as if it would be the end of the word, if a horse stopped to eat. The train conductor was a hoot, though. The ride was so worth it. We saw plenty of deer, too. 20 mins of fun! read more

Nice place to divert the kids. 4 stars for the horse trail rides but the train is totally not worth it for non toddlers. The train is slow moving and there is not much to see moving at the snail's pace it does. The trail rides are open to all ages. We bought a separate ticket for my 5 year old because there weren't any pony rides today but he ended up riding with me. The horses seem well cared for and it's definitely the better option than the train ride. read more

Absolutely horrifying experience! I went there and was scrutinized by the staff because of my weight. Now before we made this 5 hour venture to their ranch, I went to their website and confirmed all the necessary requirements; including the weight limit. I weighed myself -numerous- times before leaving and I was well below the 250lb limit every time! However, when we arrived the gentleman with dark grey eyebrows kept looking at me up and down. He waited until everyone else had gotten on their horse, then pulled me aside, and asked "How much do you weigh?" and I answered honestly. He pulls out his scale and I get on. Next thing you know this scale is saying I gained an extra 20 lbs IN A SINGLE DAY! That just isn't probable! What's more likely- is that this scale was tared to scam people out of their money, because (you guessed right) NO REFUNDS AVAILABLE. They do a weight test after the customer has already paid. Then had the audacity to tell me "You should've made sure!" Not only did I weigh myself multiple times, with an accurate scale, but my significant other could attest to this as well. When we got home, I weighed myself three more times and wouldn't you know- I "magically" lost the 20 lbs this ranch claimed I had. This was entirely frustrating and emotionally scarring. I advise you not to waste your money here. Not only were they insensitive, but his treatment of me since he saw me was nothing short of his sizeism. And I'm not saying they should allow people past the weight limit, but I am demanding a truly calibrated scale be put at the front prior to payment. If they have nothing to hide, let the next person they weigh keep their dignity. If you aren't a more socially conscious business, you won't be around for long. Times are changing and so should your prejudice! read more

Okay so if you are okay with mini horse abuse and possible other horse abuse than this place is the place for you. Not to mention the incredibly ignorant and rude people who work here including the "manager or owner" we don't know what he was but he was 5'6" and full of anger. When I asked him about the mini horses and "if they were okay and if my 5 and 3 year old could ride them in any other capacity besides the inhumane pony circle they were attached to by chains less than 3" from their poor little noses and faces, he said no they are fine and get off my property." If this is your jam than you need to rethink your morals and values b/c to us this place was to do one thing:make money off of ignorant tourists. This is a place the Human Society, ASPCA and PETA and the state need to be called in! These animals need help, especially the sad and chained up mini horses we saw. Very sad. read more

We came to the depot on a weekday so we lucked up and were the only ones on the train that day. The conductor went above and beyond to make my then 3 year old feel special. The scenery throughout the ride is incredible and it's so crazy to see all the deer so close to the train! read more

This is a late review from Summer of '16. My husband and two boys (age 9 & 12 at the time) did the horseback riding. We have never rode before, but it was so easy because the horses were so tame and gentle. The workers did a good job at matching up horses with appropriate sized/age people. The trail is very basic and flat, perfect for beginners, but may be a little boring for the experienced rider. While you wait, they sell snacks, nachos drinks, etc. read more

The train ride was beautiful and our conductor drove very fast at the end. The conductor has worked there forever and was very knowledgeable about the area. He makes jokes and keeps all riders intrigued. We saw deer and bunches of squirrels on our ride. Only bad is there is no real bathroom on site, you have to walk about a block to the state park facility. Do not use the portable bathrooms, they smell and are filled with flies when you open the door. read more

Making Pregnant Women Cry September 2023 We went twice. The first time we only rode the train and had a blast. We have had really sad things going on with extended family at home, and we really needed to just enjoy some fun together. The man that runs the train is the kindest man we ever met, no lie, think Mr. Rogers kind! The second time was a disaster. The "owner" a short man with a real bullying mentality who runs the horse riding aspect was so rude and literally picked on a pregnant woman with two toddlers. It was shocking. My daughter has a very soft heart and she wanted to make sure and not be late to start the horseback riding so she kept telling everyone we have tickets for horseback riding at noon is it okay to ride the train first? Everyone assured her it would be fine. The train wasn't quite the same, because it was crowded, but still fun. The conductor told the trail riding folks, "we have riders on the train," and they acknowledged with a shake of the head. After the train ride the short man (we never got his name) was literally yelling in a very ugly manner who's riding, hurry up, get over here. My daughter who was juggling the children pulled the tickets out of the backpack, and he said who has the tickets. When she said I do, he literally grabbed them out of her hands. At this point she was frazzled and said to him, "You're welcome." She went over to the front desk to let them know what had happened just so they would know and it wouldn't happen to anyone else. He followed us over there and then came after her, yelling and screaming at her. He would not listen and just kept saying, " if you don't like it leave." He even threatened to call the park rangers (I wish he had). I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. I kept sayin, "Sir, please, will you listen, please?" He did not, he kept saying, "I'm the owner." The rest of the employees kept saying he has kidney stones. I hope he feels better soon. All he had to do was to say, "I'm sorry !" A real bully who picks on pregnant women with babies in her arms. Sad. read more

Oh geez, I wish I had gotten the gal's name who sold us our tickets. Our family, a group of seven, bought trail ride tickets. It was raining, I had a cold, and was hesitant to go. She brought out to me her Frog Tog jacket! I probably enjoyed that trail ride more than anyone else in our group! This is a great activity for families! Besides the trail ride, there is a train ride and a Shetland pony ride for the little ones. Every attempt was made to guarantee our safety, and our enjoyment.
