The staff isn't very knowledgeable. I was looking for Pastis. None of them had ever heard of it before. It was a rather small story with a small selection so I'm surprised that they had it at all but I called ahead and was told they did. The guy that was helping me asked me what it is. I explained it's a French anise flavored apéritif served before dinner and the brand would probably be Ricard. Well what can I say? The staff in this store is ALWAYS kind, professional, helpful, they greet every customer with a smile and a "welcome in." On my most recent visit, two days ago, I was greeted by EVERY staff member and asked at least 3 times if I needed help finding anything. While the store itself is not large, the selection here at Beaverton Liquor is stocked to maximize the use of its space. The aisles are narrower - no shopping carts here. It actually makes it easier for me to find stuff and they actually had a few more items in stock that I was looking for compared to the other liquor store nearby at Cedar Hills. As nondescript and incognito the entrance is the cozy interior is anything but the sort. Judging by the exterior one would think you needed a password or special knock to gain entrance. I'm not old enough to know but I would have to assume this is as close to a speakeasy we'll see in this lifetime outside of Nevada, of course. But that's an entirely different realm of customer service... Customer service seems to be becoming a lost art but not here, for even on a busy night the staff represents all things wonderful in the way of customer service. They are not only friendly but also knowledgeable and willing to help in any way. The Safeway staff may get a run for their money when in comparison. On a number of occasions the help has gone above and beyond expectation. There is something to be said about having your inquiries answered at the wall with a realm of suggestions in order to help you make your selection. The prices are always great as well! Unlike other neighborhood shops who overprice the hot items BTSL usually has a great deal on those very same items! Their selection is also very wide spread. They typically have the latest and greatest as it relates to Sex and the City as well as rap songs! If I had to complain about anything it would be the price of Crystal Skull!!! but I know that has nothing to do with BTSL. In a nutshell this is my go to location and since I've found it I have been diligent in giving them my business. I also appreciate the annoying nuances of being a purveyor of spirits. They consistently ask for i.d. with all credit/debit card purchases whether signed or not and when unsigned they require you to sign on the spot! read more

One of the things I still have to get used to after living in Portland for 16 months is that I have to find a liquor store to buy hard liquor. It continues to be a drag. I miss not being able to buy at Costco or even around the corner at Safeway. So - I know - just deal with it Wendy. It's not like I need to get stocked frequently. As I'm preparing for the big 4th of July Blues festival I've got a ton of friends from all over coming to town. Big bottles of tequila 1800 and 1800 margarita mix were on the order list. Very hard to find in this great city but this place had exactly what I wanted. I called about 5 places before someone recommended them and sure enough - they had just what I needed. Downside is they wouldn't hold it for me nor take a phone order but when I went the next day it was still on the shelf. Glad there wasn't a run on big bottles of tequila. It's a drive for me, living in The Pearl but I'd go back again. read more

Perfectly decent liquor store. Good selection, reasonable prices, good customer service. I recently moved from South Carolina (yeah, I feel sorry for myself also). A 750ml Smirnoff flavored vodka cost an even 20 bucks plus sales tax in SC. It's 15 bucks here. The real difference is that in SC they would charge 22 bucks for 1750 ml, which is a completely stupid business model for anybody capable of doing math (which is why it was successful in SC, I guess). At this liquor store, if you get double the volume of drink, you're going to pay just under double the cost. This makes sense. I miss a super-cheap high volume bottle of liquor, but I don't blame NW liquor stores for recognizing how numbers work. I found everything I was looking for. No complaints. read more

I will never ever step foot in this place again on how bad I was treated tonight. I'm from out of town and I come to this store ever time we come to beaverton to by some liquor. I come in every time with my son and he is not of age but that was never a problem before and tonight when we walked in we're not asked for I.D. I then was looking at the Proper 12 and asked this little guy with glasses on behind the counter if this stuff was any good he said I don't know and he seen my son look at the bottle and still didn't say anything. We went to check out and the guy asked my son and I for ID for the records my son is only 14 years old and does not even look 21 the the little guy with glasses said I'm not selling to you about 5 times then told everyone that my son touched a bottle about another 5 times. I was very embarrassed and would never ever go back after that experience. The little guy with the glasses should find another career because customer service is definitely not for him. I only gave a one star because I can't give a no star. read more

Pour small amount out of shaker for the homies we lost on the long, dangerous trip out to Beaverton Town Square, and pour the remainder into a martini glass with rim salted with the leftover brine from the bottom of a bowl of Yuzu's Kakuni Ramen. Drink in one quick shot. Repeat numerous times to forget about the fact that even in one of the most "progressive" states in the country, we have one of the most regressive liquor control laws. This is a larger liquor store than most and has a couple more selection than others. The staff is friendly and helpful. They do offer advice and suggestions if asked. The prices feel pretty standard. The booze is stacked wall to wall and very crammed everywhere, definitely use ALL the room for maximum booze capacity and that's awesome. It is a popular place and always busy when I go so I do end up feeling claustrophobic and like okay hurry need out. That's the only down side. read more

Immediately after we moved to Oregon, I was shocked--shocked, I tell you--to discover what a pain in the butt it is to stock up on hard liquor here. Jeez, I was used to strolling into my neighborhood Super A grocery whenever I needed a fresh bottle of rot gut, but here in Stumptown, you have to carefully plan the purchase of your potent potables, otherwise you could end up NOT high and quite dry on the weekend. I like this liquor store for two reasons: 1) It's right on the way home; and 2) They have a great liquor selection with some very reasonable sale prices. I had no problem finding my favorite--Wild Turkey Rye--at this store. Lots of tequilas and rums, too. The place is right next door to Fred Meyer, so there's ample parking. Just wheel in, pull some bottles off the shelf, and wheel back out. What more could you want? read more

As far as Oregon Liquor stores goes, this one rocks. They stay open until 10 PM which is later then any other liquor store in the area. They have a decent selection which is well organized making things easy to find. They are easily accessible. Close to the freeway and located in "downtown Beaverton." They are conveniently located under the same roof as a Fred Meyer which means you can buy cheaper mixers there (although BTSL does carry a variety) or lump it into a grocery shopping trip. This place always seems to be busy when I am there but I am almost always offered help and they actually know how to open the second register when there is a line! They always always check my ID when I'm there. Sure, I look like I'm 14, so it kind of makes sense. So here is a heads up for any minors who might attempt to make a purchase here - don't even try it. read more

If you are German or Swiss-German or a proud descendant, you would appreciate this little liquor store and say "Prost." That's because they have Kirschwasser made by Schladerer. This is the only liquor store in Portland that I know of that has Schladerer brand. This exquisite cherry brandy is only $52 a bottle in comparison to the Internet starting at $55+SH (depending on quantity). During cherry season in OR, I like to put a few cherries in a shot glass with this exquisite Kirschwasser for about 5 min. Doing so... the cherries become one with the schnapps and this infused flavor is delicious. Now, if you didn't know this, Schladerer is the Rolls-Royce of brandies in Europe. However in US we do have a distillery that comes very close (Clear Creek Distillery - based in Portland, OR). Their version of Kirschwasser is not as smooth as Schladerer. But, that's very big "kudos" for OR because the rest of them taste like turpentine. read more

Since all of the liquor stores in Oregon are run by the state, the only advantages this store has over the others are that it has a slightly wider selection, and it is open much later than the others. This little hole in the wall liquor store gets 5 stars from me. It's nothing super fancy but they do have a great selection, a friendly staff, and what else do you really need from a liquor store? Oh, whats that? Later hours you say? BTSL has hours running till 10pm on weekdays!! Nothing worse than a liquor store that closes early (7pm). There never seems to be much of a wait either, major plus! The parking is limited, especially in the front of the store, but there is a good amount of parking else where. It simply requires a little bit of a walk, which I dont mind! Hitting this place up durring rush hour is a pain, only because the traffic jams going on in the parking lot. this place cracks me up.... it really does..... so.... no matter how many times I come in.... they always think I am under 21 .... I am 37. I dont take offense that they never remember me considering the amount of business they do.... it is just funny that they all seem to think that I am under 21. I even had one of the guys apologize the 3rd time he checked my id. He is the only one that has remembered me. other than that there is a rather small selection of vodka but huge selection on everything else. They are more than helpful if you are looking for something specific. it is refreshing to go into a store where everyone looks like they are having fun and enjoying themselves at work. read more

For such a small store, they have an incredible selection! Fast too which is good because there is always a line! This store is the go to in this area for sure. The place is located inside the Fred Meyer complex. So if Fred Meyer's selection isn't hard enough for you, There's a liquor store about 20 feet from their entryway. The blacked out windows and narrow door and entryway look like a dirty porno shop like those found in down town San Francisco, but once you walk inside it feels like a dirty liquor store in the Portland suburbs. Walk in the door and dudebro behind the counter is legit dressed in his sunday best, despite the fact that it's Monday. Overheard him talking to another patron who was also wondering if he was subject to a contact high upon entering the store. Turns out he has another job leasing apartments. That was the least interesting response you could get from a guy in a suit checking out your booze. Healthy liquor selection. It's all there and some stuff I don't see at my other shop that's closer to home. Which brings me to another point. Why am I here? My other shop closes at 8. For whatever reason it's the only shop I've ever gone to in Oregon and I thought for whatever dumb reason that all shops closed at 8. These guys are open until 10. Ended up with a bottle of Seagram's VO, because 7 is disgusting and their price on the VO is the lowest I've ever seen. $13! I like VO because it's very light and non-eccentric. I'm a dad now and I can't handle straight bourbon on the daily any more so I need my VO. It's also great to get drunk on because it's quite mild. Also ended up with a bottle of Buffalo Trace, because I love bourbon and it's for our trip to the beach house this weekend. Had to go home and confess to the wife that I just spent $50 on whiskey and she says "I hate it when that happens." #truestoriesabouthardtimesinamerica We had an old fashioned and celebrated the toddler's bedtime. I usually drive out of my way just for the service and friendly employees here. And yes there is a liquor store across the street from my house. However, this location is pretty small and the selection of the newly opened Murray Scholls liquor blows this one out of the water--even gives the Lincoln City liquor some competition. This store has better service than all though... My weekly visit is a toss up! read more
