When they do, they have competition against stores like Whole Foods who take customers from the local natural food stores, leading to the prices being marked up. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of keeping local businesses open and thriving, but I will humbly step off my soap box, and continue on to share my love for this beautiful business. As I get off the train from San Francisco and search up local restaurants, I come across Cornucopia, a hybrid business model that has both a deli and a market with great prices and a bigger selection than most stores I have seen. With curiosity in my head, and a growling stomach, I set off to walk the entire 3 minutes it takes to get to Cornucopia from the train station. I need not say the location of this place is great. The moment I walk in, I am greeted by both the delicious smell of Indian food as well as a nice woman by the name of Susan Lyon. She tells me that this is not only a family run business, but a business run by all women, and Susan (with her husband) are the founders. After our greetings and conversation, I walk to the deli where they had a fine selection of foods from sandwiches to curries. I order the coconut curry (a popular dish, from the words of the man working there) with turmeric rice, and a cup of coffee. I cannot understate the amount of flavor it has, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot do spicy food. I also see their selection of bulk spices, frozen meals, supplements, and everyday use items like toothpaste and shampoos. I walked out with a smile on my face, and as the cold Illinois wind hits me I feel longing to go back to the warmth of Cornucopia once again, but my train was to leave soon. I enjoyed every moment of this business, and I will always hope that they expand their business to California. If you ever are visiting Galesburg, Illinois, please make sure to go here. You will be pleasantly surprised by this humble family business. I saw the Hy Vee on the way to my hotel and I new I would be back later for some stuff for the fridge which I'm not going to bore you with. Hy Vee reminds me of Meijer with the great produce as you walk in and the great deli cases as you round the store and let's not forget the nice fresh seafood case. I was able find everything I was looking for and and get out quickly because unlike Walmart they have plenty of registers open with friendly people waiting to help you.

Absolutely DISGUSTING) I called the store, the owner answered I explained my situation, told him I opened it, it had a RANCID smell, but I still had the plastic wrap, and the foam container it was in. I told him I'd like a refund, or fresh chicken. He proceeded to say that I was trying to steal from his business. (Yet I have the receipt of me purchasing my items.) Going back a few months ago, I ran into one of his employees at ALDIs, she had two carts full of groceries, I jokingly asked her if she was having a party without me, and she looked at me, whispered "Girl, no. He sends us to pick up food and such from other stores for ours because we don't have a vendor." She proceeded to laugh, and say she gets paid extra to keep it on the downlow. She even mentioned she'd been questioned by walmart employees and managers if she was reselling their products for a higher price. ~ And that randoms, get paid to make reviews on fake accounts. Meanwhile, he's working all of his employees for a shitty wage, and has let go ALL of the OG workers, the ones who were there every day, and the ones who actually made the environment decent to be in. The guy who's been in the deli for years, the older guy. Such a sweetheart, and very funny. There was also another gal there I haven't seen in sometime, but I absolutely loved her, Where did she go? I will never bring my business back to this store under this mans ownership, EVER. Can I mention he had SMALL children running around in the Deli where there are fryers, and burners? ~ I also heard him yelling at one of the workers to open a bag of chicken nuggets and fries, and to hurry up and get his kids food, because they were hungry. (Which I have recorded, HIM yelling not the children)

And their hours are better, opening at 6am and closing at 9pm..........10pm Fridays and Saturdays. The made-to-order food is a nice convenience in a pinch. The pizza is ok, not fantastic, but other food items are yummier........mini corn dogs, onion rings, cheese curds, fries. And they have a whole bunch more of other made-to-order food that we haven't tried yet. Pizza and the other foods are fairly affordable, considering it's a convenience store. For example, you can get up to 6 toppings on your pizza that don't break the bank like other pizza places who go overboard with "extra toppings" charges. The shelf/fridge/freezer snacks here are pricey like most other convenience stores. Here, sometimes even pricier. And it appears that whatever entity is stocking this store, that they are affiliated with specific only vendors. Which can be a pro and a con. Pro in that you might find something special you don't see elsewhere. Con in that you might not find your standard convenience store favorites here. Everyone working here is very nice and efficient. Still no lottery here, it's been more than a year since their grand opening, but we're told it's been applied for. And you can still get gas here 24/7 with a credit card only.

I live full-time on Spoon Lake at Oak Run and general grocery store options are a problem…read more Basically I end up at the "Aldi" in Galesburg and get everything I need and for the price I want to pay, but it is a hassle at a 30 minute drive, winter driving will be interesting, ugh! For getting a few things in a pinch once in awhile, I found "Ladd's" to be better than the mini store at Oak Run. It is an 18 minute drive tho, prices are not a giveaway tho they seemed a bit cheaper than Oak Run. "Ladd's" really has their little store stuffed with many items and nicely organized considering they are so stuffed. I saw some homemade options, sandwiches, pizza but haven't tried it yet. "Hy-Vee" and "Save-A-Lot" grocers are only 20 minutes from Oak Run on E. Main St. in Galesburg, so that is your better option for full service groceries and usually cheaper prices. But I wouldn't count "Ladd's" out, I would probably shop there more if I lived in Williamsfield. Forgot to see if they sold lottery!!
