There are no toilet, waiting room or cafe facilities at this station. During peak M-F morning rush, there is a small tea/coffee stand which sells daily newspapers and snacks. The ticket desk is only open at certain times, all other times you need to use the 1 ticket machine which is located outside the main entrance (HSBC side). You can queue to use this machine, so don't expect to buy a ticket for a train due in 2-3 minutes!

Southern Railway are the train company who operate most of the services from London Victoria,…read moretowards Croydon and onwards to Brighton and the South Coast, serving the area once covered by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway from Hastings to Chichester. Since last July they have also operated the Gatwick Express service to the airport. They are part of Govia, itself a the partnership of Go-Ahead, one of the UK's leading transport groups, and Keolis, a European leader in public transport. The distinctive white, pale and dark green livery has now become a feature of south London services. My general experience of them has been pretty good, as since taking over the franchise they have certainly improved punctuality and reliability, as well as modernising a number of stations. When they started, they introduced new rolling stock on the long-distance services, which were a big improvement, although it took them a while to sort out teething troubles that kept many toilets 'out of order'. But they seem to keep them pretty clean. That said, the new timetable introduced in December has a number of features I don't like: the through Watford Junction to Brighton services have been truncated at East Croydon, meaning I (and my other half) have to change trains at Clapham Junction, which we didn't have to do before. Another major feature since December has been the extension of Gatwick Express services to Brighton in the rush hours to provide more trains: this is great for those going from Brighton to Victoria, but less good for those who used to alight at East Croydon and Clapham Junction, who now have fewer than half the services they had before (the new service stops only at Gatwick Airport). Teething troubles with the 'new' stock for this service has also led to some service disruption, but hopefully this is now being sorted out. My biggest complaint is the habit of their trains leaving early: posters announce the possibility that the doors may close up to 30 seconds before departure, but some over-zealous platform staff sometimes wave away the train even earlier than this. It's terribly frustrating to arrive with half a minute to spare, to see the train disappearing in the distance. Overall, though, it's not a bad service, but things do sometimes go wrong, so I realise that the 4-star rating may be controversial!

Well, that was certainly the case with this station. It is pretty fancy, and pretty new as well, but I can't really claim that it is a favourite.

It's confusing to write about Canary Wharf Station now as it's really three stations serving three…read moreseperate lines - the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, and the DLR (there is a distinction between all three of these some Londoners will insist on making that is technically correct but really just serves to confuse the hell out of non locals) - but all together it's a sprawling set of linked transportation and shopping options unrivaled in London. What Canary Wharf lacks in soul it makes up for in convenience and choice. The whole design is focused around servicing the clinetel of the region, namely white collar business folks who live and work in the area. History was bombed and made obsolete around here so you're not going to find any remenants of the past save the reappropriated docks. But it is quite modern, clean, and bold in its design and feels quite different than anywhere else you'll visit in London. The older Jubille and DLR areas are by far the most useful as they are situated in the middle of a sprawling mall with a variety of good options; you'll find everything from standard convienience like Boots and M&S to more novel offers like the wonderful Tian Tian Market (dedicated to everything East and Southeast Asian cusine) and a local branch of Malin & Goetz. A smaller selection of mostly food options are available at the Elizabeth Line area. Nothing is necessarily architectuarally interesting at any of the areas of the stations per say although they're big, clean, modern and safe. I suppose the Elizabeth Line has a really sort of futuristic strange spaceshiip look to the exterior but you have to pan your eyes away from the fact that one of London's crudiest attempts at Western regional food (Big Easy) is perched up there. There's a least a five minute brisk walk between each of the stations so keep that in mind if you need to switch between them.

The location is great because if you come in here, you're close to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Embankment and Leicester Square. There are not too many tracks so it's easy to get your train. We took a Southeastern train to London Bridge here and it was very quick. For connected tube service, you can access the Northern and the Bakerloo lines. It's quite a trek to get to the Bakerloo line but it's nice to have the connections in one place. Also, many bus lines go right be here so it's easy to get a direct ride to this station. While we were staying near Trafalgar Square, this was our most used transit hub.

Gayle and I came…read morein on a Southeastern Railway station above ground and found those areas to be a bit more modern and spacious than the underground part. We greatly appreciated the convenience of the direct Canterbury West to Charing Cross Route and the subsequent short walk to our hotel (at Trafalgar Square) from there. This station is a bit smaller than some of the other transit hub stations (e.g. Paddington, St. Pancras, etc.), which was just fine by us.
