So, this is another one of those modern stations, but this one is like connected to a major shopping centre, if you basically consider Canary Wharf a shopping centre in its own right. It's confusing to write about Canary Wharf Station now as it's really three stations serving three seperate lines - the Jubilee and Elizabeth lines, and the DLR (there is a distinction between all three of these some Londoners will insist on making that is technically correct but really just serves to confuse the hell out of non locals) - but all together it's a sprawling set of linked transportation and shopping options unrivaled in London. What Canary Wharf lacks in soul it makes up for in convenience and choice. The whole design is focused around servicing the clinetel of the region, namely white collar business folks who live and work in the area. History was bombed and made obsolete around here so you're not going to find any remenants of the past save the reappropriated docks. But it is quite modern, clean, and bold in its design and feels quite different than anywhere else you'll visit in London. The older Jubille and DLR areas are by far the most useful as they are situated in the middle of a sprawling mall with a variety of good options; you'll find everything from standard convienience like Boots and M&S to more novel offers like the wonderful Tian Tian Market (dedicated to everything East and Southeast Asian cusine) and a local branch of Malin & Goetz. A smaller selection of mostly food options are available at the Elizabeth Line area. Nothing is necessarily architectuarally interesting at any of the areas of the stations per say although they're big, clean, modern and safe. I suppose the Elizabeth Line has a really sort of futuristic strange spaceshiip look to the exterior but you have to pan your eyes away from the fact that one of London's crudiest attempts at Western regional food (Big Easy) is perched up there. There's a least a five minute brisk walk between each of the stations so keep that in mind if you need to switch between them. read more

Canary Wharf is one of the newer Underground Stations on the network, opening in 1999 so while it lacks some of the magnificent, beautiful old structures one would find at a regular tube station, it makes up for it with cool, modern and innovative features, making it a pretty cool station to serve London's business district, just a few stops away from Stratford on either the DLR or Underground, in East London. This station was really useful for me, being in Zone 2 in the TFL's ticketing zone, and being so close to the excellent Lincoln Plaza, Curio Collection by Hilton in which I was staying for my first night of a two-night stay in London. Interestingly, this station was voted the most loved tube station in the past and I can understand why it is fully step-free to all services on the DLR and Underground. Getting from the train to the platform is pretty easy to follow too, there isn't a long walk which feels like miles in the uncomfortable underground between platforms, as it is only on the Jubilee line, but still with the Jubilee line going into central London, odds are if you're going beyond that you'll only have to change once. Canary Wharf Station also connects to two shopping centres including Jubilee Place, which in turn connects to Heron Quays DLR station, Canary Wharf Station is, of course, the better of the two. Jubilee Place has many brands to grab something to eat or drink with numerous brands including Nando's, Marks and Spencer, Starbucks, Lush and Boots located in a small yet cool shopping centre (see separate review) 18 trains per hour run in both directions on the Jubilee line, but the westbound trains are split with 2/3 going all the way to Stanmore, and the rest terminating a few stops early at Wembley Park, another cool tube station which serves Wembley Stadium. The busiest station outside of Zone 1 on the network is certainly pretty cool and modern and even has toilets and a few stores in the station outside of Jubilee Place, which are smaller stores which aren't really suited to the station including a gift shop and a barbershop. The station staff didn't seem as helpful as other Underground stations, however. A clean, cool and modern station, and probably one of my favourite stations on the Underground alongside the likes of Victoria and Wembley Park, sadly let down by its staff not being too friendly or helpful compared to other stations, but this station is still pretty cool and impressive, built for the Jubilee Line Extension and deserves a four-star rating. read more

Canary Wharf Station - Train Stations Near Me - London, XGL

Canary Wharf is two stations. The first, which according to the TfL is the busiest station outside Central London and it serves only one line, is the one for the Jubilee Line. It is between Canada Water and North Greenwich. The second station is for the Docklands Light Rail, where it is between West India Quay and Heron Quays. The two stations are physically separate and require stepping outside or passing through an underground shopping plaza. Like many of the newer Jubilee stations, Canary Wharf has the platform edge doors. These prevent passengers from falling onto the tracks. They're a separate set of doors that line up to the train when it's present. Both doors open together. The station is massive - practically the size of a railway station. Lots of space, but you'd never know from outside. Other than the entrance, it's completely hidden. The stations are in Travelcard Zone 2 - it is a free transfer if you do so within 20 minutes. read more

Going to Canary Wharf for the first time which our hotel was, you start noticing the space as soon as you step out the tube at Canary Wharf Station. The scale is just amazing, compared to the other stations which can feel claustrophobic. It was pretty packed at the station and you never felt people in your way or crowded feeling you get in other stations. Plenty of natural light getting in from the big glass arches at the front of station. Love the simple curves and big pillars all over. You forget as some point that you're metres underground. Even without the paint job and tile patterns you find in other underground stations, it's still beautiful. Keeping the station clean and natural colour of material (mainly concrete) makes it more special and timeless. This is the station of the future underground, the others felt dated and needed make over. With this I feel like it will stand well throughout the next hundred years. read more

A very clean & busy station on the DLR network. Canary Wharf DLR is ideally positioned for Canary Wharf shopping, banks and retail establishments in Docklands, the Jubilee Line on the underground and Isle of Dogs in general with its many eateries, cinema, bars and pubs. Trains are frequent from this interchange and you can connect to DLR services out to Poplar, Beckton, Woolwich Arsenal, Stratford, Bank, Greenwich and Lewisham. It is not often to find staff here topside but if you go down below the platform level you will usually see a customer service agent lurking about. Handy for the many tourists and out-of-towners that come through here. Always well lit and populated - nothing scary here! It's all good at this station. read more

Pretty impressive station. There are free public toilets on the main level that are in pretty decent shape. That's handy sometimes. A couple things to note: You can get almost anywhere in Canary Wharf (the area) from inside the station without going outside. If you are going to the North side (Canada Square, Cabot Square, Canary Wharf DLR), you go out the right side of the station from the main level (don't go up the second set of escalators). Then walk through the mall following the signs. If you want the South side of the area (Upper Bank Street, Jubilee Place, etc.) then you go left from that main level. You don't have to get wet or cold. Eventually it will be possible to get all the way to the Crossrail without going above ground. The other thing to know is that there are lots of gates on the main level and it can cause you some trouble if you go up the wrong escalators. At the platform level, think of the direction you face to go up the escalators. All the way at the back is the Montgomery street side. All the way to the front is the main exit to Reuters Plaza. The ones in the middle are good if you're going to exit right into the shopping centre. Most people don't want that back escalator unless you know you want to go out the Montgomery Street exit. Lastly, Heron Quays DLR is nominally closer than Canary Wharf DLR, and you can get there without going above ground if you go through Jubilee Place (though it's MUCH closer to go above ground). If you're on a pay-as-you-go Oyster, however, you can go on CW DLR as a free interchange. If you're on a travel card, save yourself the trouble and go get on at Heron Quays. read more

Canary Wharf is like screamo music - way ahead of its time. It's futuristic and fancy and is all glass and concrete. It sets the mood just right for what you'll experience at the top of the escalator. It works in sync with tall glass buildings of London's Wall Street and makes you feel tiny and dwarfed by the giants of finance and media. Canary Wharf is worth a visit because it never feels like London yet you're still in zone 2. read more

So I'm one of the lucky few that don't need to commute in on the Jubilee line into work. Jealous? (Yes, I work in high rise central- no, not a rich banker- what's a bonus?! :p) And I'm so glad that I don't need to be on that Sardine can. By comparison, this dlr has more platforms, goes in different directions - to bank, tower gateway, Lewisham and Stratford. It's pretty well designed, but as it's outside, it does tend to have a BIG wind tunnel effect. Also no queues like the tube below, like ever! It's relatively well kept, and it even has a Starbucks, tortilla burrito, florist stand and benebene cafe. It's got all your needs! read more

I used to travel from one end (almost), Wembley Park to the other (almost) Canary Wharf. This place is futuristic and modern in comparison to the main stations in the center of London. If you are a movie buff you may remember it from the movie "28 Days Later" It's like a whole underground world here. You can get to many of the large companies buildings from underground. It also connects the various shops located all around. Plenty of workers here as this is the main way (DLR as well which goes to Bank and East End of London) to the mainline stations such as Waterloo. It's easy to miss if you don't know what you are looking for! read more

I'm a fan, but just of the station and not the Jubilee line. The line sucks hairy monkey brains. The station is connected to both the Jubilee Place (food mostly), Cabot Place (a hodgepodge) and Canada Square (shopping and dining) underground and emerges at the Reuters Plaza topside. Grabbing cash is easy as there are three ATMs located at the concourse. A newsagent and shoe repairer are also there. read more

An epically massive station. Visually very impressive but try not to look around to much or someone on their way very important might barge into you. This station gets PACKED at peak times and there can be people being inexorably carried down the escalators with very little platform space to accommodate them! At such times I get the train in the other direction one stop just to get on my train! I have however for the most part been pleasantly surprised by the train service to and from here! I started to give the station that I probably spend most of my time in four stars, because in the end it's a station, but in reflection I can't think of a station I prefer more at the moment so I'm upping the score... especially now that they're reworking the terrible public toilets a the station entrance, the only downside to what was otherwise a well looked after station. You've got an easy to access tube (with the sliding doors so you know where to stand), access to a suitable mall, and the station itself is both grand and streamlined fitting of what is waiting for you outside. You're only got two lines here, or one tube line and two DLR stations on the same line, but are fairly well connected to the outside of the area by what's on offer. It also gets VERY busy coming in from Stratford in the morning or leaving towards Stratford at the 5 to 6pm mark during the week, but much more pleasant in-between or on the weekends. There are a few exits so it can be a bit confusing to navigate if you've never been here and happen to exit at "A" where a friend would have assumed you would come out of "B", but after a few times you should have the hang of it. The station really comes into it's own with what it's surrounded by, which is pretty much anything... coming up the main escalator you can take a left and find some shops, eaters, etc., while walking underground towards Heron Quays DLR... or you can take a right, go up another escalator, and find yourself in a well suited mall that would carry most of the basics and then some. It may not be as beg as one of the Westfields, but it also doesn't carry that level of chaos. As mentioned by some of the other reviewers, it's amazing how much "ground" you can cover at Canary Wharf while remaining underground coming out of the station... it can be worth learning the labyrinth for those rainy days if you're frequently in the area. The only thing I wish the station had was a bit more individual character in the surrounding shops, etc., but it's Canary Wharf station after all and I'll take a clean well maintained, and nice looking station as the trade off in this instance. read more

Canary Wharf Jubilee Line Station is huge, and rightly so! It is the main transport link to Canary Wharf, so as you can imagine it's very busy during the rush hour. The way people line up at the doors in an ordered fashion, is really good as everybody waits fairly and there isn't an pushing and things are pretty calm! There are about 4 entrances to the station. There is the main entrance, two side entrances from Canada Place and Jubilee Place and then the back entrance. The station is really big, and sometimes I've made the mistake of going in there the wrong way, intending to enter Jubilee Place from Canada Place, and instead have had to leave through the back exit, and then walk around. A nice little thing about the station is that there is often a busker near the main entrance (in the station) that performs music that really puts a smile on your face after either a long day at work or a long day of shopping! read more

More than just a DLR Station, it's an experience! Got to be one of the best underground/metro stations in the world. Has a beautiful glass roof from which you can see the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf towering above you. The sheer size of the place is a wow factor, and instead of the squeeze through 10 ticket barriers at most underground stations, Canary Wharf DLR has what seems like 30+ all in 1 row. There is great access to and from loads of shopping malls. Aside from St Pancras Eurostar this is the most modern UK station - all stations have the security barriers like at Westminster to stop people getting onto the track. read more

I still have to make sure I'm not slack jawed and drooling like an idiot when I come into Canary Wharf on the DLR. The track seems to go through the buildings rather than alongside them, and the long, clean platforms make sure there's plenty of safe spaces to stand, even during rush hour (I'm usually terrified on the tube that I'm going to get pushed onto the track!). There are escalators as well as staircases up and down from the platforms, and the speed some of those Cityboys will push past you on the steps, even if you're fit and healthy, you're generally safer at busy times using the escalator. Don't forget to swipe in and out if you have an Oyster card - there are on-platform readers at the Tesco Express exit, and plenty more in the North Colonnade lobby (with a convenient Starbucks and flower stall!). Just a word of advice if you want Canary Wharf underground station - change at Heron Quays, as it's nearer. read more

I like train stations, and this is no exception. Once you get out follow the signs to the shopping centre. The shopping centre is massive, and I like the fact that it is very modern and well designed, as well as there being entrances to the big banks there as well. The place is amazingly busy at lunchtime and I could hardly more through the crowds of people wanting to get their lunch. I love the station as it is modern and also the tube has glass panels which firstly stops people jumping, and also increases the streamlinedness of trains coming and going. read more

My only problem with Canary Wharf DLR station is the long walk to the main station to get a connecting tube on the Jubilee line. It appears you have to exit the DLR station & walk across Canary Wharf to get to where you need to be. You can access this via the shopping centre but that can be very crowded depending on what time you are there. There are plenty of Fab shops (and some quite expensive ones, like Thomas Pink) and plenty of places for a coffee. I like using the station when I have some time to spare, if I am in a rush to get somewhere, I try to avoid it as the change is time consuming. read more

Like everyone else, I adore Canary Wharf, but it did take me a while to find my way around. Exiting from the tube platform, its actually very straightforward - keep going straight on. And then you get the most famous view of all, this oblong, modern empty space, incredibly theatrical, completely wonderful, with the curved glass half-dome over it, an addition at the top. Whenever you go through Canary Wharf, there are always people taking photographs - and it is dramatic. So much was made of Kings Cross International opening - justly, of course - and this space is similar in size, but squared off at the top, not the oval Victorian arch. Its very beautiful. Practicalities - yes, many exits, watch the signs for where you're going. There are entrances to toilets set in the walls, and what's more the toilets are free. They look like they belong in Stargate Atlantis somehow, with the impression of curved doors. The only caveat is in the winter, if its windy, be very careful immediately outside. I was there on the Saturday when storms were forecast, and I was literally blown along just outside the station. Luckily, a friend was blown into me, and we held hands to make it to the station. Otherwise, its wonderful. read more

I love the DLR - the best london transport solution so far - a little roller coaster - and this is the best of the DLR stations. The great thing about this station is the dual access so you can alight from either side when the DLR arrives. Initially this is admittedly quite confusing when you want to get a DLR from here and you look over the other side of the platform and think oh no I should be over there but once you get used it to it makes for a much easier trip getting on and off. read more
