I asked him to move my mutual funds to his office to consolidate my Family Trust into one office, but instead he ordered them to be LIQUIDATED without any attempt to notify me. This resulted in a large capital gains tax bill at the end of the year, and additional fees to buy back my mutual funds. His explanation was: I thought you wanted me to manage your money and invest in an Edward Jones mutual fund. Say what???? I left several messages for him to return my call. It's been over a year, and no return call from Mr. Butterfield. I have since moved my account to Devin Peal, in another Edward Jones office on H Street in Eureka. That office has been fabulous. He only makes changes after we meet and discuss the ramifications of the changes. So far, his advice has been right-on. Unlike Hawley Butterfield, he even returns calls!

You don't expect him to be a property management broker. Darus is always on the ground addressing tenant and landlord concerns with a lot of compassion while remaining fair to everyone involved. Real Property is one of the more exclusive PM companies in Humboldt, so they're not trying to add just any crap property to their inventory. It's rare to find a truly ethical property management company to work with. I would strongly recommend Real Property for either prospective tenants or landlords looking to hand off the headache of management. They have a lot of cool online tools for rental applications, screening, and rental payment, too!

Be mindful that when dealing with these folks that they have super high turn-over and the right hand often knows little of what the left hand is doing. Coming out of left field with a haymaker and a misunderstanding of what really happened in the situation is hardly a good approach. I'd give zero stars if I could. At one point I lamented this is a LOT of questions! But she was so encouraging and sweet and said we were almost there! In the end, all of the questions they asked me gave me great insight to my sales and inventory that I never would have calculated otherwise. Now I have that info handy for comparing to next year and beyond. With our new Matsen policy, we have more coverage than before, one policy (instead of two the other company had divided me into) AND the price is lower. Win win win. As an added bonus, Amy and Matsen are local, so if I ever need anything I could meet with a real human a few miles away. Highly recommend.
