it used to be the best... then they 'offshored' telephone support and it has become beyond horrible. the "agents", from third world countries, speak horrible english and are difficult to understand. they are also highly uncooperative! i've noticed in recent yours, their fraud protection has become very troublesome... while i do appreciate fraud protection, it too is beyond absurd. they will cancel your card if a 'fraudulent' charge is detected, sometimes leaving you stranded!! if you're lucky, you'll get a phone call, otherwise, you won't find out until you try to use the card and it's declined! whether you call them, or they call you, the agent starts blabbering off charges from your statement. if you don't recognize the charge, instead of blocking that vendor, they immediately cancel your card. as a result, i've been through five credit card numbers in the past two years, which makes it a big pain if you are using it to pay for subscriptions! to add insult to injury, they will not rush ship a replacement card, so you are away from home, you are screwed for several weeks until your card shows up they did this to me while i was on vacation, i told them: "i am on vacation and have no way to verify this until i get home... i still need to use this card to pay for vacation expenses. please block that suspicious charge without canceling my card, and i will confirm the charge when i get home." the automaton on the other end told me: "we can't do that, your account will be blocked until you confirm this charge", so either way, you won't have access to your account! when i asked if they could do an emergency card issue (as many good card companies do). they will say that "we can not do that. you will receive your new card in 2 weeks." they don't give a damn that they've left you stranded in the middle of nowhere! i have several other credit cards, and none of them have pulled this crap. i think that i've had two that actually canceled a card due to a fraudulent charge. one other problem: there is no way to make a payment to a becu credit card from any other financial institution, so if have other accounts, you have to deposit the money into your becu checking account before you can pay your credit card bill! it has gotten to the point where i can not trust becu when i am traveling because i don't want to be stranded!! i am in the process of starting my own business and would have gone right to becu, but due to recent experiences, i'm going to look elsewhere! i can't afford to be left stranded! read more

We have been members for about a decade. I wanted to open my newborn a savings account. We came at a very busy time. I was greeted by the concierge and put my name on the waiting list. It seems like there were many people working that may have had other duties but during that peak hour could have helped with the waiting list. I had my husband wait in the car with the kids so they wouldn't have to come in. I thought the process would be fast. After waiting about 20 plus minutes, I was called and began the process of opening the account. The lady who helped asked a few questions and gathered the information she needed and then I sat there for about 20 minutes, in silence from both of us, as she entered the information. I have set up new accounts myself before at a different bank and two things that stood out were her lack of customer service skills and the length of time it took for her to complete what seems to be a pretty easy process. Since it seemed like it was taking such a long time, I had my husband come in with the kids and they sat there with me another 20 minutes or so. Overall, so long!! read more

Since covid hit they make you wait outside in the freezing cold to be seen. There is not enough tellers ever to assist you and have been in line well over an hour. The rates to get a mortgage and how much you can qualify for makes no since. I would not recommend getting a loan. The only good thing about this bank is that there is no hidden fees when you bank with them and there is little to no fraud experiences. read more

I use this branch exclusively and have always been very happy with the service. They have helped me with a couple of bogus online transactions without question and their method of having you sign into a queue upon entry allows you to take a seat and relax while you wait, rather than stand in a long line. Wait time is longer if there's a good crowd obviously, but you always get your turn in fair sequence and the people are always friendly and helpful, and have always made sure i had everything taken care of completely, before i go. I plan my banking so i have plenty of time to get it done right. My money is that important to me. I also routinely arrive early and don't go during rush times If i can avoid it. But if i can't avoid it I make sure i have the time necessary to wait patiently for my turn. Impatient and angry customers get the kind of rushed service that gets them on their way as soon as possible. Is that what you want for yourself? And there are very obvious reasons you can't cash a check at their satellite branches, or any other bank for that matter if you don't have an account with them. That's standard in the banking world. All BECU customers know the branches are cashless. If you are a true customer with an ATM card, they will happily deposit your check into an account where it will be available after the standard waiting period, for withdrawal with said card. If you have other accounts with funds, you can transfer those funds so you can remove them with your card. This protects the bank from being stung with fraudulent checks, and it protects their customers as well. In the case where your daily withdrawal limit doesn't meet your needs, they will happily increase it for you if you have the funds. So, in short, if this isn't your bank, leave and go to your own bank. If you don't have a bank, open an account and plan better. I'm a long time customer and will not bank anywhere else. read more

I am new to the area so I wanted to establish an account with a local credit union. (I have been with another for over 20 years but it's on the eastern side of the state). A little more information about me for context regarding this review: My credit score is over 800 with all 3 agencies. I have been a resident of Washington State for all but 5 years of my life. I have been in the same career 17 years. I have strong bank accounts and solid history. After waiting 30 minutes to speak with a representative, I was very clear with her that I had just moved to the area within the last 2 months and wanted to inquire about a car loan (less that 10K) and opening an account. She gathered my information, ran my credit, and I was pre-approved for the loan instantly. However, to open an account, she came back with a "consumer score" and I was informed it wasn't high enough to open an account at BECU. And, you need an account before they will fund the loan - so... that's that. The printout she handed me indicated my "consumer score" is low because of "time at current address" - which, again, I was VERY clear about when I first sat down. (People do move!) I find this frustrating because she ran my credit (hard pull which dings my score) and had the loan pre-approved before mentioning this other score. It's mind boggling to me why I would be approved to BORROW money, yet not approved to GIVE them my money. Luckily, I have the funds in savings that I need, I just would rather finance the car and make payments while leaving my savings intact. Moral of the story, if you've just changed your address and are looking to establish yourself with a new bank or credit union - save your valuable time and keep searching. read more

40 min wait when the check in says 14.. slow slow customer service, unorganized. If you have time to waste then becu is your spot.

I came in minutes before closing, panicked because I had lost a cashiers check that I had gotten hours before. Not only did Olivia take care of the whole thing for me and reissue me the same check, she helped me in the parking lot while I sat in my car because my two toddlers were asleep and she didn't want me to have to drag them in.
