I stopped by the BECU on Pacific Highway South in Federal Way on Friday 8 March 2024 looking to make a deposit with an envelop and deposit slip I had already filled out. Specially, I was looking for an overnight deposit drop-off since there was not a rush on the deposit. Upon arrival, the external ATMs were busy and I found parking in the shared lot. Entering the building I looked around and did not find an overnight drop-off. I asked a worker in the entryway if they had one and she said this branch did not have one, though there was another location in Federal Way with one. Please beware! I am the beneficiary on my Fathers BECU accounts and from the time I made them aware of his passing they have only added to my grief and made dealing with his estate so much harder. The first person I saw made me feel like a hostage while telling me I was not a beneficiary. I went home and found the paperwork and asked for a different representative. The process took weeks and they got it wrong. He passed in July and here it is November with no resolution. Please think long and hard it you should do business with BECU. Assumed I didn't check in and felt the need to keep repeating it when I told her I did check in like SHE told me to when I first walked in. I am never one to write reviews usually but I came in this morning having some questions because of a car loan of my recently stolen car and had a great experience. There wasn't much they could do at the time but they were so wonderful helping me through any questions I had. I can't remember her name but her and her trainee had so much knowledge between the two of them and for a 20 year old with little experience with these kinds of financial situations, it was extremely helpful talking to someone who knew what they were doing. Not to mention super personable and made me laugh lol. I will absolutely come back and finance my next car with them :) And that trainee, having experience as a car salesman will be a great asset to the team. read more

Worst customer service with Kellie H. We came in to close our accounts, as we no longer live in WA. She was very rude and slow! I don't mind that it is a process closing accounts, but at least say something! Anything! How can you work in customer service and not even be a little bit personable. She just stared at her computer, pushing buttons, not walking us through what she was doing or telling us she was almost done... I had to ask her after 45 minutes of silence "Are we almost done here?" And she says no. I'm like "okay, any idea how much longer?" She says "15-20 minutes". BECU is a credit union for children. Adults need not bother. They constantly block your card due to randomly selected "security concerns". You cannot manage anything on their clunky and dated website. This is definitely NOT the place for any sort of business account, despite the fact that they have a so-called Business Services Team. This team evidently exists to devise extra fees and ignore any requests for actual help. I wanted an increase in my CC limit to purchase additional inventory for my business. I completed their EXHAUSTING application (7 pages) and was told I needed to fill out another complete application without my SS number (EIN Number instead). The BECU idiots were unable to simply modify the existing application and re-send for my signature. Nope, it is beyond the capability of these fools to simply EDIT a pdf. I finally needed to get a regional manager involved- for a simple credit increase. BTW, I have an 829 FICO score. WTF? Even if all you need are checking account services, BECU is a total failure. Need a replacement debit card? Expect the first 7 day wait to end in no card being mailed. Need walk-in teller services? Forget that, unless you enjoy signing in to a kiosk and waiting around a crowded reception area. Want to download your transactions for the last 4 months? Forget it- their website does not allow simple Excel imports. I am now on the search for a credit union designed for adults and the year 2020. Piss off, BECU! read more

Don't go here for quick banking services. Every time I've gone, I end up leaving after waiting 15-30 minutes. They need to hire more customer facing employees or figure out a better structure for getting people in and out quicker. I needed a new debit card. Was 3rd in line. Waited 20 minutes then went to cancel my spot. Girl at front desk told me to wait that there was only two in front of me. Based on history that would mean an additional 40 minutes of waiting. Lol. Nope. I'll take care of my banking needs at the Bellevue location. It seems like this Fed Way location gets shafted on resources because of the area it's in; customers are more accepting of low service levels because of status ($$$). Went to this credit union to get a loan for a car I wanted to purchase for my wife as Christmas/ 5 year anniversary of us meeting. walked in to the branch/ location (no one was there to Greet people) first time being in any of this institutions or bank in state of Washington. I saw a monitor in the front so I figured I have to kind of get a number or it will print out a receipt that will put me in their waiting list/queue so I wait roughly around 25 minutes and 5 6 people were ahead of me. my wife with her being Persian she asks do bankers in states go to work with sweat pants? I respond I dont think so may be in this state they do but in California people were business attire as far as I remember but it could be California is full of migrants so I would think they brought there manners and prestige with them. Any how I get called by Andrew and I fill out the application and after review he said we need the social security card for your wife sense it was issued after 2011 and she is more then 5 years old so it is required for you to bring the hard copy here I told him we will be right back shook his hand and went home. I come back in about 45 minutes after going I go to the bank I thought I would just give the SS card to the guy and we were done but the guy looked at me in the face didnt say anything so I figured he wants me to take another number/turn so I took that I waited 45 minutes another lady which was sitting in the back in front of the team lead called my name. I gave her the application number that I was given and told her that I waited 45 minutes to give you a simple card that guy saw me here why didnt he just come and get it. She is like he was with a client ok on once he was done or he can tell the guy hold on grab my SS card do what he has to do which was scan and attach and tell me he will call me back by blah blah time, any how the lady took the card and said it has been attached to the file and I should hear back by Noon tomorrow so I thank her and we go out. So the next day come noon passes and the next day comes so it was end of the day for me 2:00 PM I go to the bank and ask the lady in the front (she looked Eurasian to me) for the branch manager she said we dont have anyone present thats the branch manager. So I asked for who was in charge she said I would have our team lead call you over, so I get connected to Steve Rydgren which I would say was the only professional person that I saw in this institution. Steve handled the situation in very professional manner and took notes of everything that I had issues/ concerns with and one by one and not a single thing was missed. I told him the whole scenerio I had in the previous visits and the way I as a customer was handled So he asked for an ID card and my SS and pulled up the file and he said there is a mortgage on your credit and I said its a rental how much you get for it xx amount so he noted that but NO ONE had called me to inquire or find out anything about my application from there branch or there corporate and we waited for review and then they come back that they want income verification and then they ask for tax docs and then they ask for more docs and for GOD SAKE I turned in tax docs for 3 years this was more difficult then getting a mortgage. Any how eventually I got an approval Letter. This process took roughly around 3 hours and Steve was extremely patient, was able to hold conversations very well and acted as professionally as possible which I really do appreciate his work and effort he put on my Application. The whole reason this institution is getting 2 stars is Steve if it was for other things I would have gave them 0 stars. If you are getting a loan expect lengthy process usually credit union are easier to get a loan then a bank but not this one. this bank should have tellers cause not everyone requires assistance so the line wont become lengthy if tellers are in place, they need someone to greet people and just be mobile in helping customers that walk in this might help them get more customers and happier clientele which would bump up there reputations and ratings. read more

I walked into this location completely unscheduled looking to get my auto loan refinanced. Not even 5 minutes after walking in Steve was able to assist me. He walked me to his back office and we discussed the details of my current loan and what I was aiming for. An hour or so later he was able to get me approved for a refinance that had cut my interest rate in half! Im now saving about $180 a month thanks to Steve. So it's not bad enough that my husband died. BECU received a cashier's check to pay off the loan and because they said it came from a 3rd party(my son bought it from me and financed it through Columbia bank) they weren't able to pay off the loan and needed the members authorization. I only know they needed this because instead of calling me they mailed a bunch of forms to my house. When I called they said they received the check on the 28th of Sept. But needed an authorization form to pay off the loan. So I went to Columbia bank and signed an "authorization form" and had them fax it over on 10/5 I'll never forget the date because it was the morning of my husband's funeral. On Monday I also faxed over the paperwork and my husband's death certificate. You would have thought that would have been sufficient but NO on the following Thursday I called because I got a statement dated the 10th saying that there was still a balance. Now they have had the cashier's check since the 28th of September and even after calling and even after faxing the requested forms AND the death certificate they still had not taken care of closing the account. So I called again and this time they said the check didnt have the car's VIN # SO after some choice words and letting them know I wasn't hanging up until they fixed this they said they would pay off the loan. Now the way we made payments on our vehicle was by depositing the amount into a savings and at the time of payoff we had 23.40 in the savings. So do you think I received a check for that amoun?? The answer is a resounding NO, in fact I and my dead husband, received a letter today telling us that we are 1.60 overdrawn and that we should bring our account to a positive balance. BECU's Visa is a complete pain in the butt. Either they're "upgrading" the card to some new crap I neither wanted or needed, which changed the expiration, so now I have to log into dozens of accounts (public utility, Netflix, etc.) and update them for no reason, OR they detect every damned thing as fraud and are locking the card until Big Brother can scold you about your purchases. They offer low rates, which I suppose is helpful to some, but I don't carry a balance. What I want is some shred of privacy, and BECU doesn't give a toss. read more
