First thing this morning while checking my BECU account (to make certain rent was paid), I happened upon a charge via my debit card for an unauthorized deduction (purchase). I immediately notified BECU and they put a stop to my card. I was instructed to go to he nearest (staffed) office in order to pick up a new card. The one snafu at this particular branch is that is not enough space in the waiting area to accommodate the "keep 6' apart rule". One gentleman was standing outside due to the crowds. Additionally, ATM machines are situated inside the same lobby, thus making for confusion. Majority of the crowd were waiting to see an agent for business, but numerous customers just wanted to utilize the cash machines. People continually asked others in line if they were waiting to use the machines. It is a fairly small area so dividing it up into ATM users vs business users would be difficult at best. The best tools for dealing with the situation are good manners & courtesy, which all provided. In my case, I got in to see an agent within fifteen (15) minutes and my old card was cancelled and I was issued a new one. Probably spent a half hour to 45-minutes total. Great service BECU, but the physical dynamics of the layout is challenging. read more

My sister and I were in the process of finalizing her vehicle purchase when we faced some complications with the loan approval process. After unsuccessfully attempting to resolve the issue over the customer service line, we decided to go into the nearest BECU, here in Federal Way. We were met by a consultant named Diana who went above and beyond to help us, she was extremely patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. She gave my sister particularly useful advice relating to her situation, and after walking us through how exactly to improve the situation, she helped us do exactly that. While the representative on the phone call made it seem like there was nothing that could be done to remedy the situation, Diana found a way to help us. I'll be honest: I hate banks. Let me tell you why I absolutely hate BECU. I went there for my car loan. My car broker set it all up, I was pre-approved, everything was handled, and all I had to do was go inside and sign the paperwork. Well, the geniuses at BECU tried hard to make something super simple beyond comprehension. After two days of trying to sign, 3 hours of total wait time, and running around, my broker had to call the bank and get me an appointment to sign because they refused to let me talk to the person handling my loan. After that was all done, I tried to set up auto-pay. Oh, wait, you can't. Nope! You must sign up for a checking account to pay your car loan conveniently. So, I went into the bank to make a payment three weeks early, by the way and was told by the teller that my payment was late. Hmm, I have my documents here that say otherwise. Would you like to see them? NOPE, a late fee was added! I left and Called to pay over the phone using an automated system. I entered my account number and was told you are not approved to pay over the phone.. what? This went on for months!! My husband, who is not on my account, was allowed to call in a payment, but not me, the loan holder. Everyone I talked to to get it fixed told me that was weird; why, yes, it is. I even called the payment system while I was on the other line so they could hear what it said, and they heard it and said oh, I've never heard that before; no help was given, just a not my problem shrug. I would deposit money into the savings account, thinking that would be an easier way to pay, but nope! They froze my account. My bank statement shows I have money in the account, but it ALSO shows a negative amount next to my balance. How does that happen?' It's a savings account that I've never used. It's been a complete udder hell dealing with this bank. I ended up selling my car because it wasn't worth dealing with the dysfunction of BECU. DON'T DO IT! Go to the red canoe instead. read more

I called customer service to make sure that if I drop a payment at their location it's posted the same day. I was told that it would be posted on the day of the payment, it was a not. As this was my 1st loan payment I didn't get the coupon book until into my grace period. Yet when I contact customer service today James informed me that they may or may not be able to take off any late fees. First off it was made before it would have been delinquent, there were notes on the account from my original phone call and then I get treated like a deadbeat from one of their employees. This loan experience with them has been awful do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. As of a week later still no refund of the late fees. read more

I have used credit unions for 20+ years and won't go near a bank. I moved to Washington 13 years ago, started with brand X but moved to BECU within 3 months. I love BECU and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I have financed 2 new motorcycles, 2 vehicles less than 2 years old, and recently re-financed my home all through BECU. The staff have been very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and seem glad to see me when I come through the door. All that said, BECU has a couple of policies that I have a problem with but they're minor and not worth wetting my pants over or changing institutions over. I have recommended BECU to more people than I can count and those that have made the move have all thanked me for the recommendation. read more

On July 12 I got my wallet stolen, this means it contained pretty much everything I have. My identity, credit cards, debit cards, Costco card etc... I had gone to BOA because they are my primary bank beside BECU, they didn't take my temporary ID that was given by DMV state of WA also they tried to charge me $5 for a replace debit/atm card, I was blown away by this and to top it off BOA wasn't understanding or shown any empathy. I was upset, it's already frustrating to have got your wallet stolen and you dont have any money to pay your bills! Now now I'm getting to the best part about BECU, my fiancé and I walked into this branch and we were immediately greeted by Deanna (think that's her name) we had explained to her the reason of our visit, she automatically showed empathy and the willing to help! I also asked if they charge to replace the cards and she replied no it's free. Then I showed her my temporary ID and she gladly accepted! I was very happy that she made our day worth coming in. I had told her I was mad at BOA for doing all that to us and I was looking forward in the future with banking with only BECU for all our banking needs. Who needs BOA when BECU is better. I have been with B.E.C.U. since moving to WA. from N.Y. 7 years ago. I am so incredibly pleased with EVERYTHING about their services. From customer service ,neighborhood locations, ATM machines and other services I have been really pleased!!! I cannot tell you how wonderful the staff is. They are so pleasant and patient!!! Frustrated my wife to tears, and all she was trying to do was open an account. You would think that new accounts are the kind of business transaction they would encourage rather than discourage. I am not going to speak to BECU as a whole, but customer service at this location is below par. Couple the poor customer services with the unprofessional feel that this location has, and my recommendation would be to steer clear of this location if possible. read more

In general, we love BECU. But their handling - or more to the point, the lack of their handling - of the title process when we paid off our car loan back in October has proved incredibly frustrating. No contact with us about problems, just silence with regard to the loan status and our title. Mind you, in general, they're wonderful to work with, but in this instance, they've dropped the ball. read more

I manage a low income for seniors apartment complex in wenatchee. we are subject to Washington state housing finance comission rules. Each tenant must provide proof of income and bank statements each year to renew their lease. i have one tenant who banks with BECU. I faxed a deposit verification request for the tenant early in the week. no response. i called and was told it took 24 to 48 hours to recieve the information. again nothing. called again after 4 days and was told they were understaffed and it would take several weeks to recieve the info i needed. i told the person on the phone that it wasn't my problem but that it would be their customer's problem when i couldn't renew his lease and he would probably end up living in his car. the reply i recieved-" well sir, i did the best i could". i'm going to refer my tenant to a lawyer. great job BECU. read more

I would not recommend this credit union to anyone, in fact I would do the exact opposite and tell people to go to another one. I had worked at a credit union down in Eugene, OR and I'm very familiar with the laws surrounding a credit union. With that being said, the rules that BECU has in place are above and beyond, which I guess is a good thing if you don't want to access your money. I don't use my BECU visa card so I haven't had it in my wallet in months. It is buried somewhere in the middle of moving around my house, making room for our baby boy due in February. I recently lost my job due to complications with my pregnancy and have no income at the moment. I need to access money on my visa card so I went into a branch to do a cash advance transfer from my Visa to my checking account. At my other credit union, I'm able to do that through online banking, which is extremely convenient. They verified who I was with my drivers license, the last four of my social and my address but because I don't have the physical card, they won't help me. They ordered me a new card which takes about a week to arrive. I have the option of applying for a new line of credit, which requires them to pull my credit report and issue me money that way, but they won't allow me to access the loan I already have? It makes absolutely no sense. I told the woman helping me today that I don't know what I'm going to do, because I don't have money for groceries. She told me I have $20 in my checking and $14 more that I could transfer from my existing line of credit. I looked at her and told her not to worry about it. That's not going to be enough money to buy groceries for pregnant self and my boyfriend. This entire process has been extremely frustrating and just silly to me. Once I have the chance to pay off my line of credit, I will be closing all my accounts and warning people left and right to stay clear of this institution. read more
