The location near us is a hq building, very attractive, huge, with dedicated parking, a little coffee kiosk outside, and even a food truck (probably for the staff not for us lol) at lunchtime. Reading some of these reviews I see people with what certainly appear to be legitimate complaints but among them I see ones that definitely appear to be fraudulent. The CU cannot be responsible for your own lack of attention and your shortcomings in running your finances. One says he was a member 40 years ago but by the comment he isn't now and he complains they've lost their way being about technology and not people. Are you a member? This particular issue plagues every business of any size today but this is a very general complaint like so many of these. Comments about DEI hires? After waiting a year for BECU to process a loan assumption after my husband's death, I was forced to pay off the loan in order to get the property in my name. I satisfied the loan in full on March 23, 2026. I never received any acknowledgment from BECU, so I inquired about the deed and title. I was told to wait 45-60 days after loan satisfaction to receive the documents by mail. I have received nothing. My attorney is requesting the documents to close probate. I have had to enlist my attorney's help in the past to get answers from BECU customer service. I am about to ask for their help again, because I have been given no good reason for not receiving the ownership documents by now. My wallet was stolen from my purse, as soon as I discovered it I canceled my card.. the crooks charged up nearly a hundred dollars worth of cigars at International Cigar, and three meals at the McDonald's on Third and Pine. I alerted BECU as soon as I saw the charges online.... Imagine my shock WHEN BECU TOLD ME THEY HAD COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATION AND 'NO ERROR HAD OCCURRED' AND THEY WERE GOING TO DEBIT OUT OF MY ACCOUNT THE AMOUNT THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY CREDITED ME FOR...THE STOLEN CHARGES. This BECU is big in comparison to the small branch that I utilize. I walked in and saw a desk and a sign in kiosk so I automatically went there because honestly, I wasn't sure if I could go straight to the tellers or not. I signed in the kiosk and sat down. A lady saw that I had signed in and said they were having issues and went to take my information and told me I didn't need to sign in and I could go to the other side where the tellers where. On my visit, there was no line and I was able to get in to a teller immediately. I needed to pull out cash from my bank account in certain denominations, including quarters, and I had a list for the teller of how I wanted the money. I don't know if that made the transaction easier but I was in and out. My experience was great and I was surprised. The reviews for this location are so poor, I was expecting the worse. But every single employee encountered me with a smile and a greeting. And I was there during the holidays, when consumers and customers can be the worst. This location was clean, bright and lots of parking. I might have been lucky with no lines for the tellers but they easily had at least 5 tellers open on my visit. read more

My elderly mother was the victim of ATM fraud totaling a little over $18,000, which I discovered in June 2025. Since then, it has been a fight with BECU that is still ongoing (at this time it is 9/20/25) From the start, we experienced inconsistencies at the BECU Tukwila branch. During our first visit, we were told that a PIN could be captured if a fake card reader was used and that banks have access to all ATM footage. I pointed out that the fraudulent withdrawals occurred at non-BECU ATMs, and we left that day feeling confident the bank would refund the money. However, after receiving a letter denying the refund, we returned to the branch. At that point, staff told us it was impossible to copy a chip card and that their system showed the card was present. On our third visit, we tried to escalate to the branch manager, Harris. Instead of helping, he suggested family fraud might be involved, even implying someone close to my mother was secretly taking and returning her card. He even pulled up my transactions to see if I was the culprit -- despite the fact that I was the one who caught the fraud in the first place. His comments were dismissive, accusatory, and deeply unprofessional. Later, I discovered new evidence through a BECU chat transcript. It showed that my mother's card had been shredded on site at BECU Tukwila on 6/20/25. Yet, two days later, on 6/22/25, there were ATM withdrawal attempts using that same card, proving that duplication is possible. Even with this evidence, BECU still refused to refund all of the stolen money. BECU eventually refunded part of the losses (after I reported them to the CFPB and the WA State Attorney General) but they refused to cover $2,600, claiming the transactions were outside the 60-day reporting window. This is not true -- the transactions were from May and June, and our dispute began in June. It is deeply troubling that this fraud occurred just one - two weeks after my mother received her very first ATM card. BECU has the ability to print cards on-site, which raises serious concerns about how securely those processes are monitored and audited. If proper safeguards are not in place, what prevents someone from creating a duplicate card without leaving a trace? Likewise, with cameras present throughout the branch, we worry about whether customer PINs and personal data are being fully protected. Even more disturbing has been the way we were treated by the branch -- blamed, dismissed, and denied a fair resolution. My mother has trusted BECU for 27 years. She is deeply hurt by BECU. My husband and I have taken our money out of BECU and the rest of my family is not far behind. read more

Looking at all the subpar reviews, it's like BECU enables such unsatisfactory service to the point that it's customers stop complaining because we're so fed up and leave. Bottom-line: Terrible customer service. Been a member for over 30 years, and now looking to find another bank. I called BECU to report a pending fraud charge that was on my VISA card. Was told that old card is cancelled, a new card would be sent, a temp credit would be applied and to report the fraud once it posts. When it posted, I called BECU to report. Was told there was two fraud transactions and I had to file two fraud reports, which I did. Received a email a couple days later stating case was closed and the temp credit would be taken back. I immediately called BECU. Was told I filed two fraud reports on the same transaction, so one was still being investigated and that temp credit should be applied until done with investigation. (They were the ones who told me I had to file two fraud reports!). Had to call BECU again, because I got a payment denied notice from bill I had recently paid with the new credit card. Was told my new card had been cancelled (without my knowledge) and a second new card would be sent. So far it's been 2 weeks I've been without a credit card because of BECU incompetence. They still haven't applied the temp credit to my account. Thanks BECU for making the holidays unnecessarily extra stressful. read more

I requested an increase in external transfers to $50,000 at least 6 months ago. Never notified of outcome. 2) I followed up after about 2-3 months. I was assured it was all taken care of, although it was not reflected in my online banking app. 3) Some time later, I tried to transfer $40,000 to an established external bank account and was not successful. 4) Called customer service and got a huge run around, but was told it was taken care of. Then CS called back and wanted me to go into a branch. I declined the request and was totally locked out of my account. Since I was locked out I had to wait until Monday to do a video call. 5) after video call I was assured that I could get back into my accounts. STILL LOCKED OUT! 6) called CS again and was finally able to get into my account. We run close to $200,000. a year thru BECU, and have kept an average balance around $125,000 to $150,000 in savings/checking. Now some other bank will be the lucky recipient of our funds. Keep in mind that it takes my time to change over the direct deposits, and automatic withdrawals. I'm sure with each transaction I will be a little more unhappy with BECU. read more

PSA - TO THE PUBLIC!!! Dear corporate, I recently experienced a hardship regarding your policy with bill payment. I pay my rent through your institution and as you can understand that rent is top priority for anyone. I am not in the affluent category but I am responsible and what happened made me look irresponsible. Which makes me have to work 3x harder to build trust with my landlord. Situation was this- I send through your bill pay to my landlord on the 25th of every month. This time (November) my check never made it to them. I gave time to see if it would show up. By December 5th I decided to go to the branch to investigate what happened. I was not upset but concerned. This is the part that upset me. Your bill pay is a free service which I appreciate fully... despite other fees I endure through your institution I am grateful. However my $1800 was not in my account bc it was processed. The solution that was offered to cover the expense that is my rent was to take money out my envelope system and use all of that to pay again- $3600- which left me paying an additional $1800 to get my rent paid. That didn't include the late fees I was charged bc the check never arrived. Be it the post office losing it or whatever... your institution did not offer to give me back my money and bc you outsource your bill pay I had to wait over the weekend. The monies were put back on Tuesday. Now it may be not a big deal to the big guys at the top ($3600) to not think that much money is a big deal but I do not make their extravagant amounts of money like they do. This was a mental hardship plus I have other bills to pay. The issue is that had I not had the money in other accounts your institution would not allow for replacing the funds, despite having the know how that the money was out in limbo. Why would that be an issue in the first place. Your policy is abhorrent and your staff have to be the bearer of upholding this terrible policy which is unfair to them and me. My mental health was disrupted massively and your big guys at the top should consider this as you move forward in your membership data and disclose to the public that this policy and procedure is how your institution manages bill pay. If there was ever a reason to not bank with you this is it. The issues and grief this caused me has been nothing but sheer defeat. The lesson here for me is to always remember this incident and how horrible it was for me, the representative and my reputation with my landlord has left me with wondering where the accountability lies. Additionally, I do not feel psychologically safe being a part of your institution with my hard earned measly income. How uncomfortable I feel to buy a home or car or take a personal loan in the future with your institution is not going to be an option moving forward. I will share this incident with everyone I know. It will make a difference since your institution started as word of mouth that's how it will be handled when things this unfortunate happen. Kudos to Mason for their TLC at the Silverdale branch and it's a shame that you allow this to happen to any of your so called important members. My hope in my time spent dealing with this and the hardship I felt throughout this process will hopefully shed some light on changes you can make. I have been a customer for over thirty five years as well as my daughter's first student account and my first mortgage. I would never use a bank especially BOM. While they are not as convenient in some cases, today most everything can be done online anyway. The atm;s are in about any city, WA, and aren't there to rip you off in fees. The accounts don't rip you off in fees either. they also work with a network of other credit unions as well, and reimburse you of their fees too. All banking institution's have rules and regulations that can be hard to understand in adverse situations and there is a learning curve for anyone to grow into. Becu is not out to profit from you anyway they can, I am at the age where my and my friends parents are passing away, and becu does not rob the dead as I have had two incidences where a large well known bank in America did everything they could to not legally forward account balances as legally required, using tactics such as claiming not receiving a death certificate that was personally brought in on three occasions, and dragging it out for over a year while whittling down the account in fees. In both cases Becu handled the process within a week, and under the exact same circumstances. My guess is that a traditional bank charges two or three hundred dollars a year in fees, while becu actually pays interest with little or no balance requirements. All financial institutions can be frustrating, and often have to abide by non- customer friendly regulations, many of which were lobbied and written by the big banks in America paying political campaigns to aloow them to rip you off. read more

Have always had a good experience here. But this last visit was excellent (oct 20, 12pm). I worked with a teller named Michah (or Mika? Not sure) and she was awesome! I had a check to deposit but had lots of steps involved, not the usual deposit. These steps seemed tedious to me, and I don't even work at the bank. But Michah/Mika was super patient even when I had to make some corrections to my instructions. I feel like most tellers would try and rush you but Michah/Mika was very understanding. If you planning to use becu card or access bank acount, apperently is no longer allowed when traveling abroad is a new thing, they are putting me through hell to access my funds, I ask for wire transfer to my other bank account which is in WA state they are refusing to do it and just want to hold on to my fund. Used to live close to a becu office in Issaquah. Service neither good nor bad, just inconvenient. Move to Renton, closest office is the Landing. My main bank is Homestreet, generally good, reliable, friendly. A good local bank, and if you're near one, go in, visit, and put some $$ there. On BECU, I've asked my family members to get accounts there so I could easily send them $$ from time to time. And BECU has generally made it inconvenient. External trransfers have daily weekly and monthly VERY LOW transaction limits, sort of like Zelle or that other one. I've been trying to send my daughters goodly sums of money, as gifts and as reimbursement for expenses for a tour I've told them I'd pay for. BECU has made it nearly impossible, extraordinarily difficult. I could go thru the list of problems they've caused me, but believe me, they are a real pain in the butt. If you need a bank, want convenience, attentive service, and accomodating people and programs, DO NOT USE BECU. And if you do bank with them, go somewhere else. I'd pick a community bank. read more

I recently opened an account at BECU solely because Bank of America only allows you to name one beneficiary. When opening my account, I spent a good 30 minutes filling out paperwork for my 8 beneficiaries and handed it over to the guy who opened my account. I later discovered that you can't access beneficiary information online, so I dropped by to get some sort of confirmation to keep with my end of life documents and was told that they had no beneficiary information from me! I suggested they go over and ask the guy who opened my account what he did with the information and was told that's not the way they handle things. Really? So holding employees responsible for their actions isn't a BECU policy? I spent another 30 minutes filling out the same forms that the previous employee ... lost? threw away? Why not throw it away? It's a lot to type into a computer, and it's not like management or his fellow coworkers would chastise him. A week later, I called to request confirmation of my beneficiary information and was told they would send it via secure email. A week passed and no email, so I called again and was told that the email could take 3-4 weeks to arrive because their records department is very busy and handles things on a first come, first served basis. 3-4 weeks to send a damn email? I can only imagine what crap my beneficiaries would face when dealing with BECU. I gave this review 2 stars, because the look of the Tukwila Gateway location is very nice, but then looks can be deceiving. read more

WORST CREDIT CARD DISPUTE SERVICE EVER There is no online dispute for credit card services and is 100% manual obligation by the card holder to PHONE BECU which they make intentionally difficult. Three calls to their outsourced Fraud Dept saw each call on hold for 15mins then automatically hung up. I am very disappointed and disgusted with BECU thus far!!!! I opened an account with them because I was thinking that it would be good as its local to my community. I also heard that credit unions have some benefits compared to banks. I was very skeptical at first with BECU as I already have an excellent standing with Chase Bank. However, I went ahead and considered it and decided to open an account at one of their branches. Now, I see that this is where my mistake happened-- trying to become a member of BECU. After setting up my account IN PERSON, I went home and looked up their services and decided, why not, let me also apply for their LOC and credit cards as I am planning on traveling and I heard their travel perks are good and why not increase my credit utilization even though I already have $160K available credit. I filled out the forms and got an approval. I was thinking, awesome. It's been fast and easy. I mean I do have a 774 credit score. Oh boy, was I wrong. I got an email about 3 days later, and their asking for proof of address, my paystubs, tax returns, my social security card. I mean, all these documentations just for an account with them. I mean sure, I have all of those already on me. So I went ahead and emailed ALL of those documents back. I called to follow up a couple of days later as I have NOT heard back from anyone, and they told me I have to submit all of my documents now in person after all that! I still remained patient and went in one of the branches and IN PERSON gave them all of the documents. They explained the reason why they're doing this is because my phone number is a California phone number. Seriously??? I've had my phone number for yeaaaars and I'm not changing that for them so of course I have a CA phone number even though I have been physically living in WA. My tax transcript which I sent them even reflects that I filed my taxes here in WA with the address I provided them! Anyway, they told me that they are looking into it more and someone will be calling me back within the week. Which by the way, never happened! I had to call them back after a week to figure out what is going on and I was told they need more paystubs from me and seriously more invasive questions. I answered all of them but I'm starting to feel really upset. Once again, they gave me the run around that they will get back to me. I checked my mail today and got a notice that they declined my application even after submitting to them everything they asked for, showing to them that I am me in person, answering all their questions, and them already running my credit. I called them, and they simply said the person who is handling my case is not available and will be calling me back. No Answers! How disorganized can they be??? At this point, I am livid! I understand that investigations and fraud prevention are necessary. However, on my part after all I've done, it should not be like this. This is beyond unnacceptable and disappointing. I have NEVER. Again NEVER! been treated like this with any other financial institutions. I'm a nurse and I was going to recommend BECU to my fellow coworkers and colleagues but NOT after this experience. I've had my mortgage with them, several savings accounts, car loans, credit card, checking account, IRAs but I'm considering moving it all because I truly don't trust them anymore. I had my statements set up for on line. Now I'm getting monthly statements in my US mailbox. I didn't request this. I talked to an employee last month to turn this off she said I have to go on line to do it but couldn't tell me how. Now they're telling me they don't handle mortgages anymore. Today I called them because I got a random security code, the message says to call if I didn't request it, so I called. She says this has been happening a lot. A nightmare to deal with if one of there members dies and you have to collect the funds for the estate. Was warned about this by my lawyer and they were correct. There is no clear process documented on there website, the customer service agents have no idea how this works and give you different answers when you call and there is no method to contact there deceased member representatives directly. Have been dealing with them for over 4 months now, while most institutions are simple and clear to work with BECU almost seems to make this process difficult on purpose. Would suggest members understand this before leaving a mess for there estate to deal with. While it's nice you responded, first proactive response from BECU, it would be nice to see someone from your deceased member services actually respond to one of the many emails I've sent them or possibly even reach out directly. That your process is to respond to public reviews but ignore outstanding member issues is shameful. read more

We have commercial loans through BECU for our rental properties and that department is great! We therefore went to BECU to refinance our home loan. I now regret that decision. For six weeks they asked for more and more documentation which we submitted along with explanations. On sticking point was depreciation on our rental property. They wanted clarification that a line item on our tax return was depreciation and not something else. We therefore submitted all supplemental tax worksheets and forms. Two weeks later they asked for a letter from our CPA to verify that the line item was depreciation. At this point, I was about ready to quit. Did they suspect me of fraud? I already submitted operating statements and tax forms showing cash flow and depreciation as reported to the IRS. It had to be either that or they simply didn't read or understand what I had submitted. Having already spent a month on the process, I contacted the CPA and submitted the requested letter. After waiting another week and a half I was informed that this still wasn't good enough. The bottom line is, don't waste your time with BECU mortgage. Maybe if your finances are straightforward, they will help you. We have excellent credit, savings, equity and income, but due to running a business our finances are more complicated than just a W-2. My parents died 3 days apart in mid-November. They had/ have checking, saving & a mortgage with BECU. Fun fact- as soon as death certificates are filed Social Security is notified & SSI stops. Realizing that the bank account balances weren't enough to cover the mortgage, & not being able to access their separate investment accounts yet (probate takes time), I called BECU to let them know a few days after my mom died (dad went 1st). The person on the phone was very nice & said she'd put a freeze on the accounts & note the account holders are deceased. This meant I could no longer check their accounts online- but they were all frozen so no worries- right? Wrong. The mortgage division didn't freeze their attempts to auto-withdraw, so now in addition to late fees for missed mortgage payments they're also charging NSF fees for each rejected attempt to get the funds. I called the phone number on the NSF notice from the mortgage division & the man I spoke to there confirmed the account noted the mortgagees are deceased, but that he couldn't stop the auto withdraw attempts because no one is authorized to make changes (again probate issues). But THEN this guy really said "we'll you don't have to be an account holder to make payments" (?!?!). Yes those words, callus & incorrect, came out of this man's mouth while he spoke to me about my dead parents. No, I cannot make a payment on behalf of my dead parents because the bank account is frozen! I personally also bank with BECU, but will be changing that if BECU doesn't rectify this read more

I thought BECU cared about members. This last year has been a nightmare, and I had to start working with a debt relief company. Which requires me not to pay any of my loans. In order to make that happen, I was advised to close my checking account and open a new one, by BECU. Since then, I've had over $500 withdrawn. Now I can't pay my rent. I have to make a decision now that I've been fighting to avoid: I have to give up my car, so I can pay my rent. How I am going to go to school and work full-time I don't know. I'll probably have to quit school. BECU doesn't care about members, unless they have big money or great credit. Take your business and go somewhere else. read more
