Durning breakfast or after a day in the French Quarter we would have great conversations with Kevin. We had there insight of 30 year residences during Mardi Gras. The accommodations (Memphis Mini) was clean and comfortable, and the beautiful neighborhood (Algiers Point) was quiet with great restaurants and bars with good food..! It was a five minute walk to the ferry to cross the mighty Mississippi to the French Quarter. We will visit again and recommend staying at the House of the Rising Sun B&B in Algiers Point..! Kevin and Boudin the Wonder Dog greeted us upon arrival and chatted with us on the back porch. Relaxing on the swing out there while petting Boudin was wonderful. The daily fresh fruit breakfasts were the perfect start to our days along with the hour or so of talking with our fellow houseguests about our adventures the previous day. The rooms have private bathrooms, our bed was comfortable, rooms were wonderfully decorated and clean. There is a short 2 block stroll to the ferry which we took daily to cross the river into the French Quarter. ( a highlight of our day) There is also an English pub down the street which is very friendly, fun and convenient. A nearby church tolls every hour for a nice touch. All in all, it was the perfect place for us away from the "city" to go home to every evening. Thank you Kevin, Wendy and Boudin!

It's far enough away that you can get a decent night's sleep (once you get used to the traffic and thin walls of am old house). It has charm, feels safe due to the fenced-in yard, and the southern hospitality your expect in these parts. Patrick was communicative before we arrived, ensuring he was aware when we would check in and offering to accommodate an early check in if available. Karma was wonderful, as well! We missed our first breakfast due to having a swamp tour. We were at to meet our bus for that at the time breakfast starts. I let Patrick know in advance and he said to remind them the day before, which happened to be our check in day. He said they could do eh sandwiches or something if we were OK with that. We agreed those sounded perfect - warm and portable on a chilly February morning. Karma had them ready for us in a little carry out bag, along with a couple surprises: warm banana bread slices, a fresh fruit cup (which was a perfect snack on the bus back from the swamp), some Sunny D, and some waters. It was all quite thoughtful and very tasty! The next morning we enjoyed praline French toast casserole, which was delicious but I couldn't finish it! (Another individual was having scrambled eggs and dry toast so they can accommodate if you opt out of the breakfast of the day) Coffee, with and without chicory, was available. Tea was also available, which was nice in the cold evenings. Patrick offered tips on where to see parades for those in town for Mardi Gras, and tips on other sights as well. We'd certainly return!

Our host was pretty accommodating and let us keep our stuff for longer in our room when we needed to hold our luggage. The kitchen is full of snacks, coffee, and other beverages that can be accessed at any time. Our room was outside the main house but it was cute. It had a hot tub inside with a ton of different bubble settings. I really liked the effervescent salt that came as a packet to use with the tub. For breakfast, it was available anytime between certain hours. The breakfast came with the most amazing chicory coffee. It was honestly the best chicory coffee I have ever had. Food wise we had the Monte Cristo rolls. I really liked the jelly with the ham and cheese.

They explained how parking works on Frenchmen Street and pointed out some spots that were free right in front of their place. We nabbed it--It can happen! They showed us around their BEAUTIFUL shotgun house with 12' ceilings, period furniture, and a lovely, quiet garden patio off the kitchen/dining area. We had some friends in who live in the area join us for a bit in the garden, and our hosts made ALL of us feel quite welcome. Joe & Kristi have a deep connection with the neighborhood. It was evident as each in turn shared their perspective on the people, the food, the music--the scene in general.

As you walk in the beautiful living room there is ample room to lounge and congregate, play games, or just read. The dining room has so many snacks and goodies available at your convenience. Cereals, muffins, bagels, etc. The fridge has the milk, oj, creamer etc. There is a coffee machine and even a bottled water dispenser. And the hot breakfasts are superb. Joe whipped up delicious pancakes and sausages and another day there were scrumptious quiches. You come and go as you please and the front is always locked but not for us with the code. I will definitely come back and bring my wife and my friends. Already miss my peeps and this fantastic b & b on Frenchman street.

There's a simple American/New Orleans-style breakfast buffet with eggs, sausage, and grits, available from 8-10 a.m. The plantation opens at 9 a.m., and the first house tour starts at 9:30 a.m. The house tour lasts about an hour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. This was my second time taking the tour, and although the guides were different, they shared the same history in their own unique storytelling styles. Both were engaging and easy to follow. Don't forget to tip the tour guides--they do a great job. After the tour, we walked through the gardens in the morning. It's about a 45-minute stroll at a relaxed pace--walk, rest, and enjoy the scenery. Very peaceful. Later, we went to the Carriage House Restaurant, which has amazing food. The bar is also great--try the Houmas signature drinks, they're delicious. You can enjoy your drink inside or outside, then walk around more or relax. If one person wants to do everything--breakfast, museum and house tour, lunch at the Carriage House, and buy a few souvenirs--expect to spend around $150 or so. Overall, it was a great, peaceful experience, and I highly recommend it.

Karen was so sweet and accomodating and everything was clean and gorgeous. Fast forward about 20 years, and I have moved from WA state, to Memphis, and my friend from back home is coming in for my birthday, and we are "touring" some southern states. I knew I wanted to stay at Dauphine House, but was worried it wouldn't be owned by the same person. I was so pleased to find out it was still Karen! She is so nice, and provides a breakfast basket with bananas and muffins, water in the fridge, and there is a Keurig in the room. She even provides real plates, silverware, cups and glasses. We decided not to have her provide the breakfast basket, we decided to be "sinful" and eat breakfast at Cafe Du Monde each morning. She also provides you with a detailed, color coded map of the quarter, and a little booklet of things to see, places to eat, things to be careful about, etc. The location is so close to everything. You turn a corner, and cross the street... BOOM you are on Bourbon Street. The house is so quiet, you don't hear any street noise, and it is so clean. I know I mentioned that previously, but that is really important for me. It is a beautifully decorated old New Orleans home, and I would recommend for anyone to stay. You will not be sorry! You will be enchanted!

I had made the reservation months in advance, but the B&B was going through some technical problems with their system, so the booking process was slightly confusing. John, the owner, e-mailed me to clear things up and put us on a list for a free room upgrade. Fast -forward to our arrival. I really wasn't expecting the upgrade, but we got it! This meant that we stayed in the suite on the first floor--a beautiful bedroom and living room separated by pocket doors. It was basically like staying in our own apartment, especially since our room was right next to the kitchen. (One caveat: If you like to sleep late, this might not be the room for you since you can hear the kitchen noise in the morning starting around 8 or so. It didn't bother us since we were generally up by then anyway.) John is an amazing host and cook. We're talking real breakfasts here; not just a quick continental thing. My boyfriend and I had a great time chatting with him in the mornings. As for the location, it's right on the edge of the French Quarter, so it's within easy walking distance of a lot of points of interest but is far enough from the crazy that you don't have to worry about drunk people screaming and puking outside your window. Parking can be tricky (street parking), so you're probably better off without a car. After our experience here, I would never stay anywhere else in NOLA!
