A cozy, 18-bedroom, converted mansion in the lower Garden District. Well done with lots of space, modern bathrooms, etc. Quiet. Location is a plus as a half block off St. Charles and the street car but any dining (especially for breakfast) is a trek. Service is good. Amenities are slim except a good bar and coffee or tea in the AM. Our 2-night stay was quiet and enjoyable. So if you want to avoid the hectic French Quarter or CBD for lodging, consider this. As to many parts of NOLA - even the Quarter - keep your wits about you as crime is often random. read more

Fantastic boutique hotel in a great location. The staff was very accomodating. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned daily. The downstairs parlour was a beautiful place to sip coffe in the morning then enjoy an Old Fashioned after a day of exploring NOLA. Staff also gave good recommendation on a bus tour of the town that was entertaining and really informative. Could not recommend this place enough. Only drawback I saw - as a boutique hotel in a historic home, it has limited ability to accomodate the disabled so contact them before reserving if you or a family member has a severe impairment. I paid 629.00 a night (per night) to stay here on a Friday and Saturday night, and 239.00 for Sunday night. The experience wasn't close to the price point. Though the staff was generally nice, and, the building itself was charming. There is a lack of amenities, and creature comforts were present but spartan. Suggestions: 1. for 629.00 a night, please let the guest control the temperature in their room. Our room's thermostat was locked up. 2. Have the bar stay open later than 10:00pm, or an option to purchase beverages in an in room mini refrigerator. Not have bottled waters, or at least a carafe to fill with water was very inconvenient. 3. The walls are very thin. We could hear the details of our neighbors' conversations in acute detail. 4. Stayed for a 3 night mother daughter trip to NOLA. I chose this hotel for its smaller size and location. HHH did not disappoint. The decor is tasteful and it felt like staying in a beautiful old house, which made it a comfortable place to return after spending the day out and about. Our room was on the ground floor, which worked well for my mom and her bad knees, and we were by the side exit to the garden but were not bothered by the sound of an occasional closing door. The window coverings provided adequate coverage-we did check! Our room also had a ceiling fan, something we really liked but rarely have in hotels. The location was fantastic, away from the noise but a block from a tram station and St. Charles St and an easy walk to Magazine St for more restaurants and shops. We liked the cafe across the street. The service was friendly, efficient and helpful. We were welcomed every time we came back and the spaces kept clean at all times. My mom really enjoyed talking with Bruce, the afternoon/evening person, and found him the most helpful. read more

I had a DREAM weekend at Henry Howard. My room was absolutely stunning, with high vaulted ceilings and everything was impeccably designed (and super clean). The entire staff was so helpful and kind - they were able to accommodate a late check out for me and also gave wonderful recommendations as it was my first time in New Orleans. I was visiting with my dad but he was staying closer in the quarter - when I showed him HH, he was in AWE (as was I the entire time!) The whole staff provided truly luxe accommodations while also making it feel like a welcoming home (I could have stayed there forever). Brian remembered my name throughout the weekend and the kindness of the staff made it sad to leave! I will see you all again next year. PS - fabulous location and super easy to grab either the streetcar or an inexpensive Uber toward the quarter. Our recent stay at the Henry Howard Hotel was nothing short of incredible. It is a hidden gem in the Garden District, and yet close enough to the French Quarter and other famous New Orleans landmarks to make it a perfect location to get away. When we arrived at the hotel, we were pleased to find that it was even better than what was advertised. The hotel itself is beautiful, the architecture and decor is stunning. It is filled with a rich history of New Orleans, and yet has a sleek modern flair as well that is very comforting. Our room was extremely quiet and the beds were so so so comfortable. We both got the best sleep we've had in ages during our stay! We slept so well, that we asked if we could buy the brand of pillows they use. Their coffee and muffins in the lobby every morning were sinfully good and a great way to start each day of our trip. The Henry Howard Hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure that we were well taken care of during our stay. They offered tips on where to go to see live music, where to get the best food, transportation options, and also offered some locals advice, all of which we happily took and incorporated into our plans. We highly recommend the Henry Howard Hotel to anyone looking for an amazing New Orleans experience. We cannot recommend it highly enough! So amazing, we are already planning on staying there again on our next trip. We stayed for one night over Halloween weekend. Easy check in and check out. Hotel was super clean with spacious rooms. All employees were very helpful, providing local recommendations and even helped us take pictures before our Vampire Ball event. We loved the cute bar they had in the lobby. Small bed and breakfast feel. Was great to be able to quickly head down and get a drink while getting ready. Just 1 block from the street car for easy access to the French Quarter. read more

Warning to anyone looking to book a room at this hotel. You will regret it! This place is not all it presents itself to be in the web. To call this place a hotel is wrong- this is really an Airbnb but with several issues. Do not think you will be staying in anything if what you would consider a hotel. It's more like rent someone's room for the night. Beware- you will be unable to get a single second of sleep due to excessive noise throughout the house all hours of the night. You will hear every single car that passes on the street. You will hear pedestrians talking on the street. You will hear your neighbors words through the wall. Yes, words! You will hear the noise from the lobby in your room. It sounds louder than being on a plane. Get the message here? Better yet, the hotel fails to take any responsibility for the issue and instead offers ear plugs. What a joke! Who wants to wear earplugs when you are paying $300 a night. And this is what they call a boutique hotel??? Please! Please do yourself a favor and think twice about booking a room at this motel. There are too many good reviews all over the web and it is very deceiving It got me. Management does not want to tell you about the issue nor do they take any responsibility. If you are looking at the garden district, I suggest you look at other options before you are faced with what I faced. We stayed here after our first hotel didn't work out and it worked out so great. The rooms are spacious but also intimate. They have a classy New Orleans feel to them. There is a cocktail bar open until 10:00 pm as well as coffee and tea in the morning. The staff were very attentive and courteous. The location was fantastic as it is blocks away from the historic mansions in the garden district and far enough from the French quarter to get away from the busy nightlife. The Henry Howard is a beautiful hotel in a great location in New Orleans. We were in town for one night and used Hotel Tonight for the first time and were lucky enough to snag a room here at a great price. We had heard of the hotel before because we visit New Orleans often and it had been on our list of places to stay. The Henry Howard is an old house that has been turned into a hotel and it has wonderful charm. It is named for the architect that designed the original double gallery townhouse in 1867. The lobby is amazing and decorated in such a beautiful, classic New Orleans way. There is also a small lobby bar if you want to grab a drink and take it all in. The front porch is huge and beautiful but it was too hot to enjoy it when we visited. July heat in New Orleans is no joke! Our room was a Superior Queen and was very small but quite cute and beautifully decorated. The room wasn't much larger than the bed and there were two steps leading up to a large bathroom in a small hall. This kind of broke up the space a bit. It was well laid out but if I stayed here again I would opt for a larger room. Each room has robes and an honor bar with libations, water, and snacks. Another perk was the delicious cookies that were waiting for us when we arrived home from dinner. The person that brought us to our room said that they drop fresh baked cookies around 7pm each night. Our room faced the street behind the hotel and overlooked a nice patio space. The beds were super comfy but the pillows were way too thick my me. I didn't ask for a thinner pillow but they may have them. I ended up going pillow- less halfway through the night because I woke up with a stiff neck. Our interactions with the staff here were minimal and not memorable. In other reviews I have read about exceptional service and how great the owner is. I would have liked to have met him but our stay was so short we were mostly focused on soaking up as much of the city as possible. Overall, this is a beautiful hotel and was a good experience. Just got back from a 3 night stay at this beautiful hotel in a perfect location. Brittaney warmly greeted us at check-in and made sure our anniversary was special. She had the best recommendations of where to eat and how to get the most out of our first time in NOLA. The location is in the beautiful and safe Garden District. It's about a 15 minute walk to Magazine St. which has great restaurants and shopping. Transport to the French Quarter is easy and cheap since the streetcar pickup is one block away. The hotel is very clean and unique. The parlor has a cool setup with a fun bar and the continental breakfast there has good coffee, OJ and fresh muffins - everything was tasty. Our room had unique antique furniture and we liked the decorating very much. We would never want to stay anywhere else. read more

Don't stay here, especially for a special occasion. The water pressure was bad, the walls are too thin, but most importantly they have rude staff and management. I missed checkout by less than 2 hours and they charged me a full night of $309 even though staff told me I could get a late check out when I called early that morning to ask. The general manager then disputed that the staff had ever told me that and said "we never do late check outs after weddings." Our group booked the full hotel for the weekend for a wedding and still they refused to give even a partial refund... This is New Orleans - be more accommodating. And don't tell your clients one thing and then change your position and deny it was ever said. read more

AMAZING HOTEL!!! We stayed here in November of 2023. We had an awesome experience. The hotel is an old family home so there are only 19 rooms and it feels like you are staying in-house as opposed to a hotel. the rooms are very spacious, very clean and private. Amazing living room/lobby, some rooms have awesome balconies or little patio areas. The staff here is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the city and have tons of recommendations for anything you want to do. The hotel is just one block from the street car that will take you right down to Bourbon Street and back. This is the perfect area if you want to stay just outside the French Quarter but still access it regularly. Very safe and quiet. This hotel is extremely close to magazine shopping and dining as well. read more

We just returned last week from a 5 day minimoon in New Orleans, where we stayed at the Henry Howard Hotel. We LOVED everything about it. The room was incredible! And we had a huge private section of the main galerie all to ourselves, where we spent most of our evenings. The property is impeccably renovated and kept. I lived in Savannah for years and ogled the beautiful, stately homes and finally was able to stay in one just like them! Upon arrival, we were surprised with a complementary bottle of champagne and received warm, homemade cookies every night for our turndown service. Monika was so helpful! She went out of her way to reach out to us to book tours, activities, etc. for our trip and provided us with a wonderful restaurant list so that we could plan ahead. She was absolutely amazing! Brian, who was working several of the evenings that we were there, was an absolute joy! We had wonderful conversations, he made great cocktails and also gave us some great recommendations on places to check out. He made us feel at home from the moment of our arrival! I couldn't recommend the Henry Howard Hotel more highly! And we loved New Orleans so much that we are considering a future move there. Unfortunately I was not a guest here, but after a long walk around the charming Lower Garden District area my friend and I walked in, and were welcomed by Max who gave us a history lesson of the area and also showed us around the charming boutique hotel. I fell in love with all the details and love it's tucked in a quiet and charming neighborhood. Max is not only the front deskman he is also the bartender! It was a hot day and coming from California we were not prepared for the NOLA heat, he served us with cocktail menus, and I chose the Moscow Mule and my friend had the Lemon H. It was refreshing, and also nice to sit down and relax in The Parlor and admire the interior and also feel at home eventhough I wasn't a hotel guest. Southern charm and hospitality was definitely felt, and I would book a room here for sure for my next visit. read more

What a gem of a hotel!! Absolutely stunning decor and excellent customer service. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms are quite spacious. The only con is that the walls are quite thin so noise is a bit of an issue if you're near the stairwell but hopefully they'll add some sort of soundproofing that would help! This is a beautiful hotel full of history mixed with old & new decor. We were greeted at the door by Alberto as if we were long lost friends welcoming us into their home. Now that is southern hospitality! The service is EXCEPTIONAL and down to earth. I didn't feel like I was just another guest checking into a 1000 room hotel. This hotel does not offer any restaurants, but Altamura Traitorria, Mr. John's Steakhouse and the Pontchartrain are within walking distance. The streetcar is one block away too. My stay was 5 months ago; I'm just getting round to a review. 4 stars because the queen rooms are big, upscale and very clean. The sheets and bedding are comfy and top quality. The location can't be beat. Some rooms have access to nice balconies. The modern bathrooms are roomy too. The charming old house is full of history, high ceilings and wooden floors but everything is freshly painted and in super great condition as it has been completely renovated. The hotel charges premium prices so this is expected. There are definitely some logistics issues. Parking can be difficult. We were at least 2 full blocks away and there was no staff to help us with bags, just one tiny check-in lady. Normally I don't want someone walking me to the room - I can do that just fine. But I would have liked to drop the bags off at the front door instead of schlepping them down uneven sidewalks and over street curbs. I also didn't like having my car parked way out of sight on some random side street. In fairness, this may not always be the case - there was construction going on across the street - but the hotel was pretty empty when we stayed there and parking is limited. I won't go into details, but later we had some maintenance issues with our room (air conditioning) and the only staff we could find was one teenage girl who was apparently in charge. No maintenance personnel (or anyone else) were available. She was sweet as can be but helpless. There was a small bar but it wasn't manned very often. Yes there were sometimes fresh cookies at night (limited availability) but I don't eat chocolate right before bed so it wasn't a big deal to me. As I recall there was also juice and ice water in the morning and I think maybe coffee as well. There is no restaurant which didn't bother me. I don't want to eat a big breakfast when I know I'm going to be eating great lunches and dinners around New Orleans. One last gripe is the wire shelf in the shower. Soap, razors and little shampoo bottles all fell through to the floor. That may seem like a small thing but after 5 days it was really annoying. I'd recommend this hotel if you are pretty self-sufficient. It is very nice but expensive. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would! Oh the Henry Howard hotel.......what a waste of an experience...and money, lots of money. The H.H. Hotel seemed very charming as it had quite a beautiful street presence, however, that indeed was the only beautiful aspect of our stay. I was told they had just converted to a new system, which made checking in/out and billing very confusing. Seemed there were quite a few kinks that still needed to be worked out. Reading from other reviews, unlike most guest, we never met the owners or engaged much with management as they seemed prejudice towards my boyfriend. For being a booked hotel, they only had one housekeeper our entire 2-night stay. Housekeeping was incredibly slow and room was full off dust upon arrival. We were also able to hear every passing car throughout the night as the walls were paper thin. I love New Orleans and for the most part have lovely experiences, no thanks to the Henry Howard Hotel! read more

My brother and I came to visit NOLA for Halloween - Big thank you to Monica and staff for making this a memorable for visit! The hotel itself was amazing! So beautiful, clean, welcoming and the service was the fantastic. Monica made sure we were taken care of from the second we stepped in the door, and helped us to find an array of great tours and restaurants in the area. The hotel itself if situated in the lovely Garden District, a great break from the bustling French Quarter. The trolley (on St. Charles) is conveniently situated around the corner, making a trip downtown/FQ about a 15 min ride/30 min walk. The neighborhood itself is absolutely fantastic - lots of restaurants and beautiful sights nearby. In short, I highly recommend a stay here, and will definitely return on our next visit! We had a wonderful stay at this redone house to hotel. Alberto treats us like a bnb host (but no, sadly no breakfast). The Good - We stayed in a great, cute and well-decorated room (205). We didn't hear anyone above us since only the penthouse is on the 3rd floor. The bathroom is accessible by stairs, in-room, so don't stay in this one if you can't do stairs. - Each turndown service gave cookies. Such delicious salted chocolate chip cookies. - There was flavored water offered around the clock and lifesavers mints - The bed was so comfortable. - I felt great coming back here after a long day. - They are SO HOSPITABLE! What a lovely place. - The location is great. You're very close to the street car stop. The hotel doesn't have food, but the Pontchartrain Hotel (2 minute walk) has a wonderful breakfast place and a great, well-noted restaurant, Caribbean Room, for dinner. We didn't try the others in there. Magazine street isn't that far. It stretches for 3 miles but you can walk and use the street car. The Bad/Recommendations - The night time guy was slightly condescending explaining to me what turndown service was, the first night time he saw me, when I asked if my room was done when I came back from dinner. I already knew since I had been there two nights. He was fine on other occasions. - Queen rooms have hardly any space for toiletries in the bathroom. They gave us a stand with a tray that fit in the bathroom to add more space. I recommend installing more shelves, such as on the wall right of the sink, and a hook for a hand towel left of the sink. - Queen rooms don't have much area for hanging up clothes or putting clothes away. I'd change the table with small drawers to a dresser and add a deeper closet. - Queen rooms just have a standing corner shower, no bath. The wire shelf does not fit the toiletries well. Every shower something dropped through the wire rack. Soap, the little bottles they provide, my razor. Please switch to a solid rack, and add an extra one because again, hardly any space to store stuff. - Switch from single pane to double pane windows. Although the hotel room we were in (205) was situated on the quieter side, I was woken from truck noise and zippy motorbikes. Also, people hollering on the weekend. During the week no hollering. - Turndown service was lovely with cookies, but minimal. Other places I've gone to emptied the trash and replaced towels. This isn't "make it or break it", but I'd at least empty the trash. - I'd encourage replacing the robes as often as the towels. I'd have to request they be changed. Even if they were on the floor, they'd pick them up and hang up again. Gross. So yes, I'd stay here, hands down. And Alberto is great. read more

One of the best boutique hotels we've been to. The place has a ton of charm and character, and it's conveniently located by a street car line and Magazine St. The host, Monica, is incredible! I've never met anyone who takes such great care of guests. She helped arrange a number of excursions for us, including a private walking tour. We were told about this hotel from a few friends and heard about the remodel and new ownership. We can not say enough good things about this hotel! The decor is beautiful and comfortable, without being stuffy. They did a great job of creating an environment that fits in perfectly with the aesthetic of New Orleans. We stayed in the King Suite with a balcony and it was amazing! We loved it and were able to work out on the balcony for a few hours. The staff was really friendly and gave us a tour of the penthouse. We travel a lot and care about design and everything about this hotel was great! The branding I loved as it was subtle yet made a statement. The decor in the rooms was really clean and light and just perfect. Bed is super cozy too! And rooms are quiet. Location is fantastic. We took a 5 minute walk to the charming Magazine street, stumbled upon a delicious coffee spot called HiVolt and ate at Shaya. We also were maybe a 10 min can ride from the French Quarter, The Warehouse District and so much else. I can't say enough great things about this hotel! We will be back! read more

The HHH is absolutely beautiful! I love how each of the rooms have their own unique charm, enjoying drinks or coffee in the parlor or on the front porch is also wonderful. You honestly feel like you are staying in someones house. We stayed for a total of 6 nights, 2 of which we rented out the entire mansion to have our wedding on site! Such an incredible venue for an intimate destination wedding. (or other type of private events, I recommend it!) Maggie, Brandie, and the front desk staff was wonderful to work with and always very accommodating to myself and guests. They definitely went the extra mile to make sure my parents were comfortable had all they needed. The only negative I can really say is as this is a newer property there are still some hiccups in the system to work out. Check-in/Check-out and billing was a little confusing. And during nights where the entire hotel was booked out there only seemed to be 1 housekeeping personal on staff so the clean up and/or change over of rooms was slow. Overall, a gorgeous property and wonderful staff, I'd definitely recommend staying here or booking your next event with them! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Henry Howard hotel and the tremendous customer service I received from Monika. I booked 3 rooms for my VIP clients that also happen to work for a large hotel company. I was nervous since I had never stayed at this hotel. My nerves quickly faded. Monika kept in touch with me prior to their arrival and suggested tours, restaurants and even rides to and from the airport. She completely took care of my guests throughout their stay and made me look great! When they checked in, she knew exactly who they were and that I had booked their rooms. The personal and local touch was amazing! In all of my years working with hotels, this experience ranks at the top of my list. As for the hotel itself, my customers couldn't say enough nice things about it. They loved their rooms, the friendliness of the staff, and the delicious cookies!
