We were landscaping all our bushes in front of our house. We asked and Tray Simpson (the general manager) helped us design a plan and select the right bushes, trees and plants. He then helped us load them up. Overall, Bedford is a great nursery and a blessing to Augusta! If you haven't been there... it's a great secret although it shouldn't be. You won't regret going there if you need any trees, plants, flowers or bushes. read more

Such a cute nursery. They have literally everything here! I was looking for At Last roses and they had a ton. Almost ordered them from Amazon but glad I came in person and saw them... though I ultimately decided the color wasn't going to work on my rose garden I was glad to see them in person. Also have some rare hydrangeas so I'll come back and get them in the spring. Very well kept with a great selection of plants and flowers! Such a cute shop tucked away in a neighborhood. I was in town visiting and there is nothing like this at home. Ended up going home to NC with so many house plants. The selection for indoors and outdoors is fantastic and everyone we encountered was super friendly. They even have a diy bar and can't wait to come back to do that! read more

A gem! I had bought three plants a year ago without exploring this business fully. Last week I went in about ten greenhouses and viewed other plants outside. Every plant looked healthy. Staff were knowledgeable and pleasant. I'm wishing I had a bigger budget but then patience will get me what I need eventually. I won't be looking elsewhere in the Augusta area for trees, vines, perennials or annuals. Prices are fair and the plants just perfect. And if I want a half dozen gingko trees later (I do) the manager will order and provide in about two weeks. read more

Just go to Bedford's. This locally owned and family run nursery is such a gem. They have a wonderful selection of perennials and annuals. They sell trees and edibles and beautiful glazed pots. You can buy local fruits and veggies here in season as well. The ladies from my neighborhood also did the Terrarium Bar that they offer! You go in and create your own Terrarium with a little expert guidance. It was truly a unique and enjoyable experience. You can purchase a container from them or provide your own. If you are into Fairy Gardens, they also have a selection of items for your Fairy Garden. If you love to garden or if you are a newbie and need some direction then you must head to Bedford's. read more

Holy Moses... I actually found this place! Its a bit of a hidden gem--tucked away behind neighborhoods, greenhouses overflowing with awesomeness. Super-helpful staff, and beautiful red wagons to fill up with your dreams of what can be... When you ask your questions you'll be directed to this or that greenhouse... "Oh, geraniums? Those are in Greenhouse #8, let me walk you there" Or if you ask about vegetables, "Well, there is still a chance of frost, but all the ones appropriate for planting are on the tables out front" How stinking thoughtful is that? And the whole inside shop is an absolute dream... flawlessly decorated, gorgeous pots, inside plants & mosses... I highly recommend bringing a friend, or say a husband to reign you in from trying to own all the loveliness in one swoop. Which, by the way is the only downside--price. But as my friend used to say, having good taste can be terribly expensive. I was reigned in by the aforesaid husband, and now have several herbs & geraniums, at reasonable prices growing in my front yard (and for the record--there was NO root crowding in any of my plants--the dirt & plant just kind of melted out into its new home--so awesome!). So, its spring and the warm-earthy-dirt-new-green-things-growing smell as you walk into each of the, like 20, old greenhouses (some with old chimneys and ancient fans!), plus the been around 50+ years vibe, plus the red wagons to pull your kids around on, plus the ridiculously gorgeous tastes of the owners & their supreme thoughtfulness... yeah... I think you will really have to visit. I'll be back, for sure! read more

Bedford has an excellent selection of garden plants, flowers, bushes, and trees. The staff is very nice and helpful. The prices are also quite reasonable. I'm hoping that the garden vegetable plants will do much better than the ones I got a home improvement store last year. read more

This nursery was an absolute DREAM!! Huge selection of beautiful and healthy outdoor and indoor plants. There is even a build your own terrarium bar! I felt like a child at a toy store. It is a bit confusing to find, as it is in the back of a residential area, but persist and you will be so happy you did. By far the coolest nursery to which I have been. This place is definitely not easy to find. Dont waste your time at lowes when this place has basically any plant/flower/shrubbery you could need. All the plants are good and strong so there is no need to try and hunt for the best plant. There were no duds that i could see. The people are super friendly and check up on you to make sure that all your needs are met. The only real niggle that can be said is they dont offer potting soil, though they could have it and i just didnt see it. read more

Easily, the best nursery I have ever been to! Eccentric atmosphere with a modern touch, I couldn't help myself in there! Everything was reasonably priced! If your interested in terrariums; they sell kits and even give the option to build your own! The staff there was extremely friendly and helpful! This place is truly a hidden gem! History

Established in 1945.

Bedford's was built by the Story's back in the 40's. Louis Story was building the houses in the neighborhood and decided to start growing his own foundation shrubbery. He and his wife Catherine decided that growing was more fun than building! The nursery has been owned by a few other people through the years but the longest running were Robert and Jane Anderson who owned Bedford's for 31 years before retiring in 2002. Milledge and Joanne Peterson (both from Augusta) were living in Raleigh, NC when they bought the nursery in 2002 and moved back home to start a new career working together. Bedford's has been undergoing a sixteen year makeover and has prospered in the mean time. We have revived this business and brought it into the 21st century while preserving so much of the charm that the Story's and the Anderson's have created throughout the many years that Bedford's has been growing.

Use pebbles to decorate the planter. Had a choice of one type of bonsai plant. There was no room for 2 people to work together on the project at the same time. Our care tips was a leaflet and one check out, water plant weekly and if you trim brown branch, it won't grow back, if you trim a light colored branch, it will continue growing. Not worth the cost for the experience. Have done other things at PlantHouse that were a better value and more fun.

Key point about Woodlanders! They do NOT currently have hours open to the public for…read morebrowsing/shopping- they do online shopping only and you can pick up orders in person if you're local. We were able to stop by for a visit when they opened up for a day for the Ag + Art Tour of Aiken County (organized by Clemson Extension, a great statewide series of events). Despite the rainy conditions we were able to browse through their plant selection and they had a few available for purchase that day. Since most of their plants aren't labeled for sale and don't have prices it's hard to know if they're a good deal but we did end up leaving with a special citrus that's supposed to be able to overwinter here and it was $32 for a fairly small plant. However it's a hard to find plant so we thought it was worth it. Many of their other rare plants I've seen at other nurseries or online stores for a better price. The current owner is fairly new and took over Woodlanders from the original owner so I'm not sure how different the business is now since we didn't live here or know about it prior to the switch. The current owner/operator Fiona did say they are planning to open up for in person shopping ~2 Saturdays a month starting this fall, so follow them on social media for updates. Fiona was super nice and seemed very knowledgeable, and I'll definitely keep an eye on their inventory for any gold nugget finds but in general will still probably do most of my plant shopping elsewhere due to cost. A fun place to explore though for sure!

Because of the two less-than-favorable reviews I read, I was dubious of placing an order with…read moreWoodlanders for four Fagus grandofola. The "reviews" seem to have been written by "Karens", and the price was good, so I took a chance and ordered them last week. My concerns were unfounded. The lady with whom I spoke was very pleasant and helpful, even though I'm a rather gruff old man. The trees arrived in excellent condition and are very, very nice specimens in every way. I highly recommend Woodlanders without reservation.

As a customer and vendor of McCorkle Nurseries, I find the business to be 1st rate. If you have a…read moreproblem, all you have to do is contact them and they will make it right. After all, you are dealing with plants and not everyone can grow them. I would buy from them only if they had a full-time shop. Best Nursery in Georgia with the most caring people.
