Nice selection of perennials and annuals. Great end if year sales if you need to "fill-in" extra spaces

This is the second year I have gone to Bedford's Greenhouse to purchase flowers in memory of my mother's going to Heaven. I buy live plants, which are displayed at the front of her church on Sunday, and then planted around the church later. The selection was fine. I could've bought some lovely hanging baskets, but I wanted a variety of plants, some in Mumma's favorite colors. I had limited time for the stop, and I quickly found 6 plants, ranging in variety from an adorable short, spiky magenta-toned plant to tall salvia in blue, with shades in between of other flowers, like the one that reminded me of a bouquet of tiny roses. There were a few leaves beginning to brown on the edges, but the rest of the foliage was lush enough that they wouldn't be missed once pruned. I am very pleased. The lady who waited on me was so pleasant. She reassured me that I could take my time (since I walk with a cane, rushing is NOT an option), she placed the plants into a plastic base I could take with me, and she even carried my purchases to the car for me. The only way the experience could have been more convenient is if the plants had miraculously appeared on their own! This was great. Thank you! read more

Unfortunately we went to Bedford's after doing most of our flower shopping at other nurseries. Decided to take the 40 minute drive to Akron from Kenmore and immediately regretted not going there first. Seeing all the plants and flowers being loaded into customers cars in the parking lot had me in awe. Once we got into the greenhouse I couldn't believe my eyes. Potted Canna Lilies that were almost 4 feet tall for only 19.99!!! Enormous porch pots with 3 or 4 different plants for $29! Annuals were huge and well priced. Never had a chance to check out perennials as my cart was already full. Next year I head to Bedford's first. Hopefully I can get it all home in one trip! read more

Bedford's in May has 2 particularly amazing wonders... GORGEOUS hanging flower baskets and AWESOME coleus plants, just see the pic of the trunk of my car. We also got awesome looking patio tomato plants, which they are known for, 2 for $10! My neighbor (who recommended Bedford's) usually gets the patio tomatoes further into the season, when they already have ripe fruit for 2 for $8! They had some beautiful veggie and herb plants. Lots of peppers, tomatoes, squash, and herbs. I'm sure they will have much more as the season progresses. I can't wait to come back! On the way to Bedford's, we passed Wild Bill Hickory BBQ, but his joint was closed! Guess I will just have to come back down this way ASAP. A day filled with gorgeous plants and BBQ out in the country, sounds like one of the best days to me! Akron is a pretty quick drive from East Amherst, maybe 20 minutes or so. If you come from further out, take the 990 to the North French exit, turn right on North French and follow it all the way into Akron (it will become County Road, and later Hunt's Corners) make a couple of turns and before you know it, you'll be at Bedford's. You could even make a day of Wild Bill's, Bedford's, and on the way home down Route 5, the Clarence Antique Mall and the Great American Garage Sale on the weekends. While agreeing with the previous poster and the apparent quality of Bedford's hanging baskets, our latest experience was unfortunately not so kind. We've been buying baskets from Bedofrd's for years with little complaint. Although their prices ($30.00 for a 10" plastic basket) are quite high, we've typically received decent quality. The last 3 years have found our mixed Calibrachoa baskets to have been troubled, but only with one of the colors... Yellow. For whatever reason, the yellow in these baskets has weakened and nearly died, yet we've been fortunate to recover them. This year the yellow, and yellow only died. Anticipating no problem we returned to Bedford's with the failed plant to receive a replacement for it's obvious failing. I should mention as we did to them, that the baskets are located ideally for light and receive only the water and food they need... Neither to excess. It also bears mentioning that this only happened to one of two baskets. Of our scores of flowers and plants, this was the only troubled one. We kindly addressed the issue with an associate who promptly excused herself to speak to her supervisor. Upon her return we were informed rather unceremoniously that they would not completely stand by their sale and offered us a 50% discount toward a replacement, which I questioned and was immediately denied. Giving her yet one more attempt at not losing a regular customer, she steadfastly declined the opportunity. Imagine, paying $75.00 for 2 10" plastic hanging baskets. We can't either. We walked away and will never return here. $60.00 for just two 10" baskets of common variety is very high. We gladly paid it thinking that any business selling at this price has certainly and obviously padded their price to include unfortunate returns and failures. Nope... They still wanted more money. We wish them well, but they earned our loss of patronage. read more

I stopped into this greenhouse by chance. The first thing I noticed was the very empty parking lot. Then the lack of welcoming entrance. It was very cold feeling and the one staff member that did work there was not overly friendly. She said hello to me only when I was going to cash out, oh I was the only customer in the entire place. The selection of plants was nice. On the electric sign by the road it said stop in for on site deals. There was no signs when I went into this place of deals or discounts. The one worker that was working never informed me of any deals either. When I cashed out with my debit card I was also not informed that there would be an additional $3.99 fee for using my debit card. I was not impressed with this greenhouse. I would rather go to Badding Brothers or Russels, at least they are friendly and it looks like they want customers. Bedford Greenhouse only gets two stars from me bc their selection of plants is decent, not great. read more
