This place is absolutely wonderful. It's a destination if you like birds and plants. There's birds flying all over the place there's tons of plants to choose from they have potting classes. They have everything you need for your plants. Everybody there is so nice and helpful and the prices are reasonable to anywhere around and they are all local artists. They are able to repot your plants if you need a refresh and they are always ready to help with whatever questions you have! There is such a nice variety of plants. This is by far my favorite plant store! I can't tell you how much I've spent here, but definitely get a punch card. It adds up quick and 20% off one day will be nice lol. I've purchased a beautiful scindapsus pictus santin pothos in a hanging basket, calico kitten succulent in a hanging basket, a monstera and a half moon monstera, a small silver leaf philodendron and a large kokedama plant. I feel like I'm missing something lol. All are thriving, giving me peace and adding so much color and character to my home! Definitely check out Put a Plant On It and follow them social media. Huge variety of plants. Aisles are extremely small with huge shelves of plants encroaching into every space. I'd be afraid to wear a large backpack for fear of knocking things over. There were strong smells (I assume fertilizer or something) and I didn't even make it past halfway into the store because there are store birds (parakeets maybe?) just hanging out with people in the store. The other customers seemed very happy and the staff looked enthusiastic, but not the place for someone who is claustrophobic and afraid of birds, or probably for anyone with mobility issues. read more

The plants I bought here died within a few months. And I have lots of glorious plants throughout my home. These girls say much more interested in propagating their liberal political ideas than running a legitimate store. I am so tired of the unhinged. Very cute that they have a "plant hospital" where people can make appointments to get help with their plants. It's a little tight between the aisles and very humid for the plants. What an fun loving, spunky shop. This is the type of place that you step into, soak in the vibes, and walk out rejuvenated. I've been looking for some plants to bring some life into my apartment, and was hoping for some inspo upon stopping in. Inspiration I received, along with tons of guidance & help in picking out a plant that would best suit my space. Walking to the market I stopped for a few minutes to gaze through the windows, walking back from the market I stumbled upon a Pop Up Shop! Taking over the space that was Yotality, the newest plant shop is located on Elmwood Ave neighboring a strip of small shops. Next door is the M&T Bank and across the street is Hunt reality and the future site of a Lloyd Taco Factory if you are trying to picture it. Because we are in times or COVID, Yes you have to wear a mask. Yes employees wear masks, Yes there is a foot pump hand sanitizer by the door and Yes shoppers are limited by 4 to enter. The store is adorably laid out, upon entering to the right will be a self potting station where a variety of soils and soil enhancers (think fertilizers but also things to improve drainage and such) will be available. Per the owner a menu will laid out with prices. You can either bring your own pot and plant or of course buy one here. Not everything is for sale as she has some of her own beloved plant babies for display. They are marked however you find a variety of plants available ranging from tropicals to desert and in between. All these plants are houseplants in our climate and will tolerate being outside at various levels. The owner seems very knowledgeable and can provide insights, don't be afraid to ask! I highly recommend following them on social media to get the latest updates on happenings and plant shipments. I know a few beauties are coming in for the grand opening on August 1st. In addition to plant varieties you'll be able to find contemporary and antique pots, in addition to jewelry. I know this was only a pop up however I can't wait to see this little business grow! I I hate to do this because of how negative reviews impact small businesses but I've gotten way too many poorly rooted and rehab plants from this shop that I have to spend time revitalizing on top of her uncaring attitude whenever addressed about the matter. Theres a large and silent population of individuals who feel the same way but don't want to bash a local small business who seems to support good causes. I don't know how some of these plants make the shelves. When my business received poor or damaged inventory, I took the financial loss and trashed it and offered customers free items or gift cards for their next return. For a business a lauds activism, supporting minorities and anti capitalism but literally sells anything at almost double the price and has no concern about it. Sounds like master capitalism to me. I've lost thousands upon thousands just to do quality control. My last visit, I noticed a good portion of the plants were dead and division size orchids are being sold at full prices. I was even sold a two leaf philodendron infested with spider mites for $120 that's widely available online for $40 and most recently a very damaged orchid. I've included pics of some poor plants I've gotten. An exchange with her, and another customer. When there was nearly an 100 comment thread on Facebook about this shop, I left the group because I thought they were being mean. Unfortunately I'm driven to believe the rumors are true. Also to not I reached out to her on day 5 of having the plant and she blamed the grower. She offered to rehabilitate the orchid but she's admitted publicly she's not good at growing them. I am from Rochester, NY and will plan an entire day around my trip to Put a Plant On It. I have family in the Buffalo area and never miss an opportunity to stop into my favorite plant shop in the western NY area!! The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The kindness and genuine caring about their plants and animals is abundantly clear. They always have an excellent selection and the store is so inviting for anyone looking to curate a plant collection of a WIDE range of very healthy and reasonably priced plants. My favorite so far is a hoya mirabilis I purchased the last time I was there. It was potted up in an excellent chunky mix and the staff was very helpful in helping me understand how it's care is slightly different than the other hoya in my collection. Their understanding of the nuances of many genus of plants is one of the many things I appreciate about their business, which I will continue to support as long as I can. This place is amazing, and I wish I lived closer! I am a serious California plant collector, and I can say the pricing here is EXTREMELY reasonable. They have a ton of common and more rare plants. I love Hoyas, and the Hoyas here look super well cared for, and not expensive in comparison to other plant places. I'm so sad I cant bring anything back from here, but of course I bought a cute handmade planter by a local ceramicist. Definitely check out their pottery, it's very well made! read more

Plant selection is fairly good (especially given that I went during the winter). This store has very basic standard things that every plant owner needs (proper dirt, pots, standard house plants). They have cute birds in the store that are friendly too and it looks like they carry local artists work (pottery). That said, I've heard this store will sell you plants with aphids. If you are a plant person, you KNOW how annoying aphids are. Upon inspecting the plants in the store, some did indeed have aphid eggs. Just something to keep in mind. I bought two plants (after I inspected them) and some succulent dirt. I wouldn't recommend or deter someone from this store. If you are new to plants, it's probably just what you need. The owner is always super helpful when I go into the store with my boyfriend! She is always willing to answer questions, make recommendations or just talk about plants! It's also great that she's in her store so frequently. All of the plants are super healthy and you have the peace of mind knowing the plants have been cared for. I am not a local but I recently visited the area for Labor Day weekend, what a great little shop, the plants are beautiful, and properly cared for. My favorite was the potting station, which have different mixes and amendments, it is fabulous. The owner is also very sweet and knowledgeable. I see a few reviews above that mentioned hardware stores plants, that should tell some about those reviewers, hardware store plants are usually overwatered, not properly cared for and some even have pests. Terrific little shop on Elmwood! I love everything about the aesthetic- good selection of small and medium house plants, tropicals, local art, and macrame plant hangers. It's true, this store is not Lowe's, and as such cannot match the prices of the mega corporations. The few extra dollars are invested in this locally owned and operated business, and the heart of the Elmwood village. If you want the absolute bottom prices, then drive out to the 'burbs. Some of these plants are decent quality. Proces are roughly double what Urban roots charges, which is also local and has better selection. If interested in going to suburbs, prices would be less than 1/3 of listed with much better quality and selection. Almost all of my houseplants are from Put a Plant On It, and I have amassed quite a collection at this point. The wonderful humans who work there and Johanna the owner have spent so much of their time picking out the best plants for me, sharing their knowledge and advice, and helping me out when I need any assistance. All of my 30+ plants that I have purchased here were healthy, pest treated, and thriving and thanks to the help of this store they continue to do great. I would never have invested as much money into Johanna's plants as I have if I did not truly believe they are the absolute best; I have had no issues with unrooted or rotted cuttings and all rare plants I have purchased have been fully rooted and established, ready to grow. I have garnered that there is some sort of Facebook drama-fueled vendetta against Put a Plant On It as seen here in some negative reviews that in my experience are totally unwarranted. Every plant I have purchased here was priced fairly, even at a great bargain for many rare plants. They have all been healthy and I feel absolutely confident that if any issues arose the staff here would make it right and help me fix up the plant in question. Even when they are insanely busy, I have never been treated with anything but patience and kindness here. The employees remember myself and my partner and will even get Chimi down for him to say hi when we stop by! I have been in the customer service industry my entire life and this shop and Johanna deliver an unwaveringly positive experience every time I visit or reach out with a question. They even offered to replace two plants from anyone's collection that suffered storm damage during our recent blizzard and offered great advice for keeping our plants safe. Put a Plant On It is one of the best places in the area for plants and all the planty fun you could hope for! First up, the plants. The owner of the shop is one of the areas most knowledgeable plant people. She has helped me on numerous occasions troubleshoot issues with my plants, and they've all thrived thanks to her care tips! The plants she sources for her shop are all super high quality and pest free. Sure, you'll find your run of the mill type plants here -- shops would be stupid not to stock these. But what you'll also be delighted to see are rarer, harder to find plants. The kind of plants that send the internet into a frenzy and sell out within seconds. I'd suggest following the shop on instagram; you'll get updates of what's in the shop and what's coming in. And if you're ever looking for something specific...ask the owner! She can help you out. Next topic, planty things. Best soil selection in town, hands down. She also has this amazing soil bar where you can create a custom mix! (It's not totally up and running yet, but it will be soon). She doesn't sell anything she wouldn't use at home for her own personal plants. There's also a great section of pots and planters, some vintage and some handmade by local potters and artisans! I've purchased more than several plants there during the pandemic and I have not been disappointed! Wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone, nor would I really want to come back myself. Extremely overpriced for the quality. I purchased what looked like to be the healthiest, rather small looking Calathea Jungle Velvet in the store (for $40), yet the new leaves, upon further inspection had turned to mush and would not make it. After advertising 3 new shipments of plants, everything was pretty overpriced and rather "meh" quality. The employees were really nice but I tried to say something to the owner on the way out, but she completely ignored my presence in the store completely from start to finish. For a shop that markets a lot towards plant care, I was expecting the plants to be in a little bit better condition than Home Depot. I would say save your money and go to Angle Acres or Lavocats, unless you have $200 to spend on a pretty mediocre rare plant. read more

Went in on small business Saturday and was excited to support a small business. The plants here are extremely over priced and were common plants that are easily found at the local hardware store. All of the staff were very nice, except for the woman with green hair. Seems she cared more about taking Instagram photos rather than talking with a customer. I tried flagging her down with a question but she walked right on by. Turns out this woman was the owner and I am glad i did not support her business. Huge, healthy monsteras for only $40-$50 (i've seen smaller ones at the $80+ price range most other plant stores in Buffalo!!!) Plus, the store is full of unique, plant-themed art from a variety of local artisans. I got this super cute baby doll head planter that I absolutely love & the plant for less than $20. Johanna the owner is incredibly knowledgeable & patient - she takes the time to answer all my questions & give great advice & tips on the plants I buy at her store - I've even messaged the shop weeks after I bought the plant & she responded with great advice! She propagates many of the plants in her own greenhouses, or gets them supplied wholesale by trustworthy, ethical sources. I was impressed that even the brand of soil she sells is made by a family-owned farm with whom she's cultivated a personal connection. It feels so good not just to support a local business, but to know that the owner is also doing her best to support other locally-owned, small business, and minority artisans/sellers.
