Music from live bands or DJs set the tone as you shop at the dozen or so tents. Buy Jersey fresh, produce including my favorites, sweet white corn and hydroponically grown lettuce. Get super high quality locally produced and exotic meat. If your not about making your own food from scratch, visit the Polish or Italian specialty tents where you can buy fully prepared meals that just need to be cooked. For instant gratification, get food from the trucks including empanadas. There is the most delicious pickles and olives, fresh baked goods, artisan chocolates and more. Lots of items packed in the stand. Fresh produce, baked goods, homegrown grass fed beef and dairy. Most of the items are straight from this farm while some are sourced from other local farms. I came away with steaks, burgers, hot dogs, heirloom tomatoes, valley shepherd yogurt, Lioni mozzarella and some granola. Great spot with reasonable prices. I'll definitely return soon.

The pecan had zero taste and was wrapped in plastic which means they probably buy them cheap and sell for a huge profit. Pumpkin pie had a very rubbery texture and again zero taste. We were so embarrassed as no one ate the pies. We threw them in the ditch next to our house. Totally, totally disgusting. Save yourself a ton of money and get yourself a $2.99 Mrs. Smith's pie from the grocery store and a pumpkin pie from Costco. A fraction of the price and at least they're edible!

Parking is easy on the streets nearby too. I get the sense that Madison struggles to accommodate this market because every year it's in a different place. One year it was on Waverly, then it was banished for a year to the grounds of the old Bayley-Ellard school, and now it's back in town on one very small block of Green Village Road, right outside the Museum of Tradecraft.

This past week I was lucky to try Kikitos Jibaritos, a Puerto Rican sandwich vendor, and it's a must try if you spot them at the market! Some vendors accept both cash and card payments and a few only take cash. I recommend bringing both! Also, bring your own bags! There were a few vendors that didn't offer bags. Another tip: bring water or something to drink. I believe there was only one or two vendors that sold drinks. Bathrooms are also available for vendors and not to the public. Parking is also very hard to find so come early! The market is from 9am to 2pm.

The Backers were the consummate hosts and made everything easy. Even thought we had torrential rains, we were warm, dry, and cozy, especially with a fire in the wood stove..
