When I walked into this clinic, I was amazed at the cleanliness and how warming the decor was. I felt more at ease at this dental office than I did next door at the bank. They have coffee available and tables you can sit at while you're waiting for your child to be attended to, instead of sitting along a line of chairs like you're waiting to be seen in the urgent care. They even have ipads in the waiting room and a fun mirror to keep the little ones occupied. I usually see the degrees of the doctors framed and on display when I first walk into a medical office which isn't the case here. For a second I wondered if this place was legit, until I saw her diploma and awards a little hidden in the room where we had a first consult. I assumed she didn't want to boast about her merits and show off how specialized she is with pediatrics dentistry (I probably would have :p). Dr. Pahls explained in detail what was going on with my little cousin and how she had to fix a dental job that was not done correctly. I informed her of our previous dentist & how I assumed the last dentist was constantly doing quick fixes but we always had problems arise. It was definitely cheaper every time we saw him, but in the long run ended up being more expensive because it wasn't fixing the main issue. As much as I am all about saving money, I understand that I can't compare Dr. Pahl's prices with a general dentist because she is specialized for a reason. Plus, how many dentists do you know who are so open to working with children with special needs. Not only does she accept them, she also has pictures of some of her patients with special needs up on her wall. You can tell everyone at this office works well as a team and I loved the high upbeat energetic feel of the clinic. I don't know why the other yelpers' experiences were different than mine but I'm definitely going to come back to Dr. Pahls in the future. read more

J think they did great for little kids.. changed appts from 2 to 3 since Zi declined nitrous oxide without checking with me.. Very nice staff, clean office...but you seriously.... you need TONS of MONEY and patience to go here. I was just wanting a simple cleaning for my child and a few pieces of baby tooth that needed to be extracted since the gum was growing over them. (For some reason, my child's tooth broke apart when he tried to pull it out and could not pull out the small pieces that were left behind.) Anyway.... I got the full run around at the office. As I sat with my child in the office, my appointment was bumped 2 x as I sat there watching others get helped. They apologized and told me that wanted to spend more time with my child after all the other appointments. SOoOooo...I just sat and sat for an extra hour waiting patiently for my turn. FINALLY, when it was my child's turn, the assistant told me that they needed to take new x-rays, even though my child just had some taken a few months ago from another dentist since we moved. They told me their office needed new x-rays and I needed to contact my other dentist and have them send the records to their office. No problem, I can do that. BUT...as I was in the other room trying to contact my other dentist, they were getting ready to x-ray my child. I kept telling them my child does not need them, but the assistant still insisted and went ahead and did the x-rays anyway. They did get a hold of my other dentist, but told me that the records would take awhile to get to their office, so they needed to take the x-rays to look at right away. Ughhhh. My child is going to start glowing at night from all of the X-rays. I was not happy, but held my breath anyway. Next, the Dentist came to visit my child. She looked at my child's teeth, explained that my child needed sealants on 6 teeth and the baby pieces needed to be extracted and the list went on. $57.00 for each sealant. $165.00 for each little piece of baby tooth that needed to be extracted. Anyway, they figured the cost would be around $1,290 to get my child all fixed up. After she explained all the procedures that needed to be done, she again apologized and told me that she just didn't have enough time to do any of them that day. I was like...WHAT? I waited all this time as now they didn't have any time to do ANYTHING? Seriously? Ohhh..but they could still charge me 159.00 for nothing. Sorry, they did do something. They took x-rays and the Dentist talked to me. $98.00 just to talk to a dentist. WOW..just WOW. I should of been a dentist. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the staff here. So welcoming & truly cater to my child. My daughter was scared and they took the time to "clean" her stuffed animals teeth 1st which loosened her right up! Dentistry for children is *not* easy, but Dr. Pahls and her staff do an excellent job and genuinely care for their patients. They have worked with us when issues with our kids have arisen, giving us the options and information we need to make an informed decision that best suits us. I took my son here for his very first dental visit. The office is very nice & clean. Very kid friendly. Didn't have a long wait. I feel they are kinda pricey as well. He didn't have no xrays done. Just an exam & cleaning. They also put a topical film on all his teeth, had I known this was extra I would not of gotten it. His teeth were perfect. We brush daily & I feel like I should of been given the choice & told this would be extra, I feel he didn't need it. It was 50 dollars just for that. I think the total bill was about 200. I most likely will take him back just because my son was very comfortable & it was a good experience other than the price. read more

My five year old son needed some dental work done in which he would need to be under anesthesia. Our dental clinic referred us to Dr. Heidi Pauls office, Bee Happy Children's Dentistry, in Coos Bay. We had a meet and greet appointment where my son was able to connect with the staff and Dr. Heidi to evaluate his dental procedure. They were amazing. So sweet and compassionate, reassuring both of us of the plan and what was going to happen. When we left I felt knowledgable and capable of helping my son through this rather extensive procedure. We came back for the appointment a few weeks later arriving at 7am. They had a full schedule and being prompt was paramount. Dr. Heidi came out and talked me through what was going to happen and repeatedly said that she would trust this anesthesiologist with her own children. Also stating that she would be there the whole time to monitor my son and that he was in great hands. I trusted her sincere accountability. The odd thing about this was that you are not allowed to accompany your child back to the procedure room. I had to say goodbye and he was reluctant of course. I gave him a huge hug and reassured him that I would see him shortly. He shook his head and walked back to the room with one of the hygienists. They did the work and we were on the road an hour later. When my son was able to talk about it, he said, "You lied, they weren't nice! They held me down and pulled my hands over my head and made it so I couldn't breathe." I was instantly shocked and appalled at what I was hearing. He said, "I wanted you and they said in a little bit after we were done, I tried to get up but they held me down and put the mask on my face." My poor son is traumatized. The situation could have been dealt with in so many other ways. I could have comforted him and reassured him it was going to be okay. But, they were on a time schedule and they couldn't have a disruption like this. They made the wrong choice and traumatized a little boy. read more

It also seems like ever single time we go, she says something else that needs to be done. Working families don't have this kind of money! Took our 3 1/2 year old daughter to Dr. Pahls because we were concerned about some visible decay on her upper teeth. Our child would not sit still for x rays but we were told that's ok for today. They can get the x rays later when she's asleep. Dr. Pahls recommended baby teeth caps on at least 8 teeth for a cost of about $2000 plus needed to do it under general anesthesia so we were going to have to rent the room at the hospital for another $1500 for the procedure plus whatever the anesthesiologist charges on top of that. Probably north of another grand or more. And you can only imagine the add on stuff they are going to "find" once the room is rented and the kid is asleep. At that point of course you will say go ahead to anything they recommend because you don't want to repeat the hospital. This sounded like a lot but we do love our little girl right? Don't want her growing up with funky teeth. Well we took her to our regular family dentist for his opinion and he filled all the cavities in two visits while she sat there awake. He said when I called he expected to see a mouth full of rotten teeth and even with all the professionalism he could muster his disgust was written all over his face once he looked at her teeth. He said something like "they wanted to do what again?" The decay was so surface he didn't even need to numb her to fill them. Teeth look great now and they only need to last about 2 more years anyway before they fall out. My bill was about $400. It's no wonder they're so happy at that clinic. I won't use the word rip off but that's some aggressive selling IMO. You make up your own mind. I guess if you're on welfare it's no biggie but it is for the working person. read more
