Emergency Department and remained hospitalized for two days. This was his second admission within the past year, and my 87-year-old mother has also been hospitalized at Beebe during that time. All three experiences raised serious concerns about the care of elderly patients. My father's most recent hospitalization, however, was catastrophic. My concerns involve both the ED and his subsequent hospitalization. My father was seriously ill and medically complex, yet his care lacked the careful assessment, coordination, communication, and planning his condition required. My father has an extreme hearing deficit, and his overall condition further impaired his ability to communicate effectively, provide a reliable history, understand complex medical information, and meaningfully participate in decisions about his care. I am his Medical Power of Attorney and an experienced Nurse Practitioner. More importantly, my father explicitly told his providers to speak with me about his treatment. Despite this, I was rarely consulted about his condition, history, treatment decisions, or overall plan of care. The problems began in the ED. The physician appeared dismissive and made little effort to clarify my father's actual complaint or listen to my concerns. My father described difficulty catching his breath associated with "burping," which the physician characterized as shortness of breath and "indigestion." He had stable vital signs, an oxygen saturation of 98%, and no labored breathing. Given his cirrhosis, severe ascites, and history, I was concerned that his symptoms could reflect esophageal or upper gastrointestinal bleeding. I attempted to communicate these concerns, but they did not receive appropriate consideration. There was a lack of coordination throughout his hospitalization. It was unclear who, if anyone, was directing his care, whether providers were communicating with one another, or what the treatment plan was. For a seriously ill, medically complex 89-year-old patient, there was remarkably little coordinated, team-based planning or management. Equally troubling was the near absence of communication with family. There was no effective process to ensure that my father's designated spokesperson and MPOA was involved in his care--even after he explicitly instructed his providers to communicate with me. Severe hearing impairment is not an incidental issue in a hospitalized elderly patient. It directly affects the patient's ability to provide an accurate history, understand information, and participate meaningfully in treatment decisions. His communication limitations should have resulted in greater attention to family involvement and coordinated decision-making. After three hospitalizations involving my elderly parents, I am deeply concerned about the care Beebe provides to vulnerable elderly patients. In our experience, communication among providers has been poor, communication with family has been minimal, responsibility for the overall plan has often been unclear, and important information from family has not been adequately incorporated into care. My father deserved a careful, coordinated evaluation that accounted for his serious medical conditions, age, communication limitations, and the information available from the person he specifically designated to speak with his providers. That did not happen. These were not minor communication or customer-service problems. They were serious deficiencies in the assessment, coordination, communication, and management of a vulnerable, seriously ill elderly patient. I rarely write reviews like this, but as a healthcare professional I am honestly shocked at how much the nursing care at Beebe seems to have declined. During my recent visit, a nurse accessed my IV to draw blood and then flush the line without cleaning the IV port with alcohol first. I was literally watching her do it. No scrub. Nothing. She just accessed the line. I'm a nurse practitioner, so I know what I was looking at. This isn't me complaining about a long wait or someone being unfriendly. Cleaning an IV access port before accessing the line is basic infection prevention. The more concerning part is that patients who don't work in healthcare would probably never even notice. They trust that basic safety practices are being followed. I shouldn't have to lie in a hospital bed and watch every step of my own care because I'm worried something this basic is going to be missed. I understand nurses are busy and healthcare is difficult right now. But being busy cannot become an excuse for skipping basic infection control when accessing someone's IV. Nursing care just does not feel like what it once was. This visit seriously shook my confidence in the hospital. Beebe needs to spend less time talking about patient safety and take a serious look at what is actually happening at the bedside. This was incredibly disappointing. read more

Went in having issues with something on my face feeling vulnerable and afraid, they told me it was a cyst nothing they could do and told me to go home. Months later it's SKIN CANCER! This place is terrible and doesn't care about any of their patients. Disgusting this is our hospital do better. People need fired from here. Beebe Pulmonary- unresponsiveness is not acceptable, calling several times, leaving a message and still not receiving a call to schedule a new patient appointment. Gave the office all info they asked for and last communication was from Brenda on April 16, at 2:25 pm. I missed her call and when I called back the person answering the phone said she was unavailable, took my name and number and I never heard back from Dr. Arias office. It is now May 21, 2026. My family has had two devastating experiences at Beebe Hospital. Both my grandfather and now my grandmother passed away there, and our trust in this hospital has been deeply affected. My grandmother had known heart problems, yet our family felt she was given an overwhelming amount of medications and painkillers during her stay. After only three nights in the hospital, we were told she went into cardiac arrest while being bathed. The entire situation was shocking, traumatic, and extremely difficult for our family to process. What hurts me personally is that I tried calling my grandmother every single day while she was in the hospital, and not once was I connected with her. I wasn't even given the opportunity to speak to her while she listened on the phone. I will never get that time back, and that has been heartbreaking to live with. We left feeling unheard, confused, and with serious concerns about the level of care and communication provided. I would not recommend this hospital based on my family's experiences. read more

I came to ER back in Oct 2025 because I passed out in my bathroom and fractured my nose. I ended up being admitted to hospital for pnuemonia and orthostatic hypotension. My back had started hurting a few days before ER. I had no previous problems with my back but kept mentioning the pain including not being able to get out of bed without assistance. They may have done a catscan but dont really remember. Nothing was ever done to figure out the pain in my back. I was released after 4 days and sent on my way with no results. I followed up with my primary Beebe doctor and was told it was this or that again no answers and maybe another catscan. I went to Beebe ER 2 additional times to no avail. The pain was excrutiating. They evidently do no MRIs in ER unless it was brain. That is what they told me. I ended up getting a referral to pain management doctor and was seen 3 or 4 weeks later. I requested an MRI and he was nice enough to refer me. Went for MRI and followed up with doctor again weeks later. I ended up having a very fast spreading bacteria infection in my thoracic spine 2 verebrae. I needed surgery immediately. I just wonder why this could not have been discovered back in late october. Instead I went to Johns Hopkins and had 2 emergency surgeries. January and March. I now have 2 rods, many screws and a cage in my thoracic spine. It has taken me 5 1/2 months and Im finally close to walking again. Spent 70 days in inpatient rehab and now continuing with outpatient rehab. I've received excellent and cheerful care from the doctors, nurses and staff at Beebe. Their Emergency Dept care is terrific and attentive. I've received great care at their primary care, dermatology, GI and Emergency Department. My only concern is that I wish their implementation of EPIC MyChart would allow more online scheduling. I have to call and sit on hold to make every appointment, which is not what I've experienced with other hospitals using MyChart. read more

My father is my favorite human on this earth. Exceptional care and a positive hospital experience! I was a little concerned about going to Beebe Hospital in Lewes because of its 2.7 rating, but my experience could not have been more positive. I needed unexpected orthopedic surgery after a fall, and the level of care I received from start to finish was outstanding. The ER was efficient, and I didn't wait long to be admitted. They quickly determined I needed surgery and also discovered I had a loud heart murmur. I was impressed that they were so thorough and wouldn't proceed with anesthesia until cardiology had cleared me. That level of caution and attention gave me great confidence. I was very fortunate that Beebe brought in Dr. Gita Pillai, a top-notch orthopedic surgeon, to perform my surgery. She was able to do an internal fixation rather than a hip replacement, and I am thrilled with the outcome. My recovery so far has been excellent. The OR staff and anesthesiologist were wonderful--professional, compassionate, and reassuring. On the 5th Floor Orthopedics unit, the nursing staff was phenomenal. Special thanks to Lisa, Tyler, Maria, and Emonya for their outstanding care. I also want to recognize PT Brenda and OT Heidi, who exceeded my expectations in helping me begin recovery. If you take someone to Beebe ER, be prepared to care for their needs yourself while they are there because the nursing staff will not. The call button will get someone to answer and ask what youneed, but no one will actually come to help. Be prepared to feed, bedpan, change soiled bedsheets and gowns, and clean your family member's vomit and bowel movements because no one will come to help you. Doctors and nurses do not communicate with each other or with you for days at a time. Miscommunications and non communications are to be expected. read more

I had four fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. On July 4, the nurses were playing cards at the nurses station as my IV alarm bell went off for at least 20 minutes. They were so loud during the night that I couldn't even sleep! Each time I asked for my pain medication, which was allowed every four hours it would somehow take them six hours to get it to me. And that's if they answered the call for a nurse! I also was left sitting in urine for hours after which I got a UTI. Most nurses had an attitude. And acted like they were doing me a favor. It was nothing but torture dealing with these nurses. At one point I was left on the commode for an hour without reach of the call button! Most times when I simply asked for water they would forget! No compassion, no empathy, and very rude. I understand that they have other patients, but I could literally see them just hanging around the nurses station and joking and watching the World Cup! The nurses assistants, however we're very nice and we're treated poorly by their nurse. The absolute worst hospital I have ever been in. You are not a patient, you are simply a bother to them. I just cannot grasp the attitude of floor head nurses, nursing heads, security, and especially billing. These individual are so overwhelmed with the self-important and power hungry demeanor that patients are corralled into one single classification and not as individuals. The hospital was hit with a huge multi-billion dollar lawsuit in the negligence of one patient that was not strapped in, fell out of bed and died, that the rest of us under their care are not treated based on our individuality and specific situation. I am not the same as an 87 year old patient! The floor nurse in the cardiac care unit was a bully...nasty and based on how the staff behaved around her, fearful. Awful people here, and that I blame on the executives and managers that run this horrible place. Now, not everyone is an asshole. A good number of the nurses are attentive, caring, and supportive. Update- Sept 12, 2025 In fact if you are single you must pay out of pocket $3000 before the health insurance covers anything. If you are family you must pay out of pocket $6000 before the insurance pays anything. Think about this- paying a tad over $600 a month equals $7,200 for the year and on top of that you either pay $3,000 or $6,000 more. That's a crime!!!!!!! Like I said - how can a normal worker that gets paid about if not under $55,000 survive paying for insurance $10,200 or $13,200 from your already small wages. Sad. Please ask many questions cause you will suffer!!!!!! Looking to write a review of their health insurance for employees. It is insane how much out of pocket one needs to pay out!!!! We moved here and of course I get sick, all women get bladder and yeast infections and let me tell you this- you can't ever get sick. Their health care is only a discount insurance as in I went to the closest urgent care and they told me I had a $40 dollar copay. I was like wow this is good lol. Jokes on me! a week later we got a bill that the insurance didn't cover the labs. That was $146 - not to bad but many of us get this issue multiple times a year. Welp after taking the pills I still didn't feel well and the one place was closed so I went to tidal health. A $50 co pay and a couple weeks later owe over $800 due to the insurance didn't pay anything at all Plus tidal health didn't help me either Claimed I just had spasm. Waited a few weeks and my back starts to hurt went to an actual Beebe walkin thats 30 mins away. My partner got the job and welp they don't go over the health insurance like many years ago they would explain what it pays and doesn't. So now we will be in debt and wont be able to get out at all. My doctor is 5 star, but to me, Beebe could care less about their customers. There is only about a dozen people answering the phone for over 100 doctors. I waited on the phone many times over a half hour to speak to someone before I hung up. The phone does not ring at the doctors office and is answered by the small group I mentioned. Then it's whisper down the line to get a message to my doctors office. The is beyond poor. From what I see is the Beebe is understaffed with doctors, nurses and support personnel. The board of directors is very top heavy and nothing gets done. Doctors are leaving and Beebe doesn't care. Was an inpatient for noro virus and received excellent care. Spent 4 days there and they really care about their patients

To start with the care was wonderful But, THE ROOMS on the 3rd floor were horrendous. They were dirty, the sinks and the floors were filthy. The room I was transfered to from the 2nd floor to the 3rd had just the bed changed nothing was wiped down before I came in. The bathroom had a used tolit catch with pee still in it. Nothing was wiped down( TV, remote or floor) the hallway was filthy. I don't understand when we live in the richescounty in DE. These rooms haven't been updated. Can't wait to go home and throw all my stuff out. You all should be ashamed. read more

My husband has been a patient at Bebee Medical for YEARS. Suddenly, he gets hung up on after being on hold for an hour. He wasn't even able to send a message via the portal; the option was NOT available. This is very piss poor and then to be charged shit loads of $$. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Not to mention, he NEVER got notice that his doctor is leaving the practice. What kind of pizza joint is this place running? At least have the message center answer calls that the office can't answer to alleviate the backlog of calls...How about we start charging them a fee for OUR time wasted trying to make an appointment and/or getting our prescription(s) filled?! read more

Beebe Heartburn Center, Dr Schilli, enncouraged me to have the Bravo test done. His consultation was 800.00, the procedure itself was 7,000.00. After the test, I was told that Dr Schilli had no appointments available for me to go over the results of the test because he was in the office only once a month and a couple of doctors had left the practice. They could not schedule me to meet with him to go over the results, which I did not understand but had the results mailed to me. I let it go and chalked it up to a lousy Dr. Recently I received a bill for Dr Schilli amount due 114.00. I've already paid 1400.00 for basically nothing. read more

Colostomy. Had this done last week of 2021. While in recovery I complained that the tops of my legs were numb. All the docs I saw said it would come back. Took a year but now had pain on sides of upper legs. Also had a reaction to the anesthesia and ended up being there one month. Been to physical therapy and didn't help.. have to take short steps and feel clumsy at times. Don't know where to go from here. No one seems to have an answer. Very unhappy with the care that Beebe "provides". Not speaking of the professionals (e.g. Drs, FNPs, Nursing staff, etc.). Speaking of the vast inefficiency in and between the various practices, at the walk in centers, etc. They've clearly reached a level of incompetency that is alarming. I wrote a heartfelt long letter to the CEO explaining four huge issues I have encountered over the last year, some aggravating (like scheduling, as everyone is complaining about) to horrible attitudes by some, not all of the staff, to poor care, long waits for care even if an emergency (over 90 days to get an emergency appointment with a pulmonologist), etc. Received back a canned reply (certainly by a paid replier), 40 words including misspelling, stating "thanks for the email, we're trying, sorry for your poor experience, Stay safe". The same way every poor review on Google and Yelp has the exact same canned response. Should be one star only but raised it to two stars as some of the Beebe professional staff really try to provide good care, despite the problems that agree exist (they will say in confidence). Service at their locations is so-so to good. Their billing is HORRIBLE. Our insurance covered basic imagery for my wife and we received our payment confirmation of benefits from the insurance company. We have received SEVERAL letters from Beebe saying they haven't received payment even after five different phone calls and providing information that the beebe employee advised us to send, INCLUDING which account the insurance was deposited in. Our last letter said they were sending us to collections. It's like there no communication between people there. I've never seen such a failure in all the time we have had insurance. read more

Billing is horrible. I was in a motor vehicle accident in July and gave them all my claim information. Every month I received a bill and I would call again to give them all the information they needed. About 5 phone calls and 6 months later I received a notice from a collections agency. I contacted insurance and they have in record that it was covered and the auto insurance paid in full with zero balance. What is Beebe charging me for why do all their billing employees have zero communication with each other. read more

Our 3 year was running a very high fever 105.5 degrees at 830pm 05/31/2022. We took her to the ER. Spent 7 hours there, a bunch of tests later, swabs for flu, RSV, covid, strep X-rays, blood draws all negative, and they checked and confirmed, ears and lungs clear, diagnosed common cold, gave her a Motrin and sent her home. Fever still high 103+ this morning, took her to a follow up with her pediatrician, not part of this business. Within minutes confirmed ear infection in one ear. How can a medical doctor and nurses not know how to spot an ear infection? We felt scammed. It is costly, dangerous and should be illegal for this. Insurance companies should look hard at this company too. Our poor daughter has been in pain for at least 12 hours more than needed and to top it off, her fever spiked to 106.8 while we waited for her antibiotics to be filled today 6/1/2022. To follow up with the noted comment below, I had already submitted a form on the site 6/1/2022. and haven't heard back. I will call the number provided. To update the review, when we requested the lab results, they suggested clearly a bacterial infection and cold, and even indicated a UTI as another source of possible infection. I took my husband into the hospital because he had a swollen knee by the time I had gotten which is literally 15 minutes from my house he had infection through his entire lower part of his right leg. I pretty sure it's Marissa. They took him in a immediately he was seen immediately the doctor came in. They did bloodwork on him, took him to a room intervenous antibiotics, in an instant, they had everything under control the way it should've been done. This review is for the cardiologist department and their TAVR procedure. This post is being written due the sadness, anger and overall lack of concern by the staff for my Mom's TAVR procedure on 4/12/2021. It is to a combination of occurrences. One is the basket not being used (have copies of the surgery records) which collects particles to avoid a stroke. The other and most upsetting is the lack of concern when my sister approached the nursing staff as my Mom was in recovery that something was not right when The nurse (will not use her name from the records) said she was just agitated and gave her Benadryl. My sister knew something was not right but was told to go home and they would call later. The later call was that my Mom had a major stroke. It was awful. She was transported to Thomas Jefferson by helicopter only to be told upon arrival it was a full stoke and nothing could be done. My Mom had to live her last 2 years of her life in a nursing home with no use of her body. We tried to comfort her as much as we could and enjoy the time we had with her. There were no phone calls from the TAVR surgeon or the nurses ever. We only heard from the BeeBee neurologist who confirmed the stroke after the nurse called him 2 hours after the procedure. In addition, we hope my Mom was not included the BeeBee article about the 100th TVAR procedure conducted (nothing about successful procedures in this article just a number). My mom's was not successful. Do consider other hospitals even out of State who offer TAVR. read more

Not happy with the lousy diagnostic tools they use. Refused to test my fiancé for an illness although she was sick - fever 103, headaches, body aches, chills for 6 weeks. Then on the 6th try a doctor finally ran more bloodwork and told her what she had based on antibodies (after 2 visits to the ER and 3 visits to PCP.)
