My old bike had not been ridden in about 15 years, and I wanted to start riding again. So I took it into Beer City Bicycles. Frank replaced the old dry rotted tubes & tires and did a complete tuneup and cleaning. This morning I took it for a ride and was very happy with its performance. It is like a brand new bike! Brought in a brand new Mavic tubeless rim to have the valve stem installed and a tire put on. Dude immediately rips the stock liner out and proudly announces that he's "gonna use what he likes". Which is great for him but I like Mavic WHICH IS WHY I BOUGHT IT. Tire has never held air pressure for more than thirty minutes. Now I'm using a tube in it because he ruined it with his choice of crap just to upsell me. Screw these guys. You're better off having the neighbor's kid work on your bike. read more

Maybe you don't ride and just need to chill with some cool people, talk about bit coin, reasons why you need warm gloves in the winter, the fine line of not enough or too much chamois cream, why bibs are cool and shorts aren't particularly for those right behind you, when clearing your nose which side you spray is important considering who's behind and where positioned, being back by 10:30 on a Saturday is a good thing, road side repairs blow, why starting out with the wind in your face and finishing with it at your back is the pro way, coming home the long way is what winners do, or you just want to toss back a cold beer. Friendly folks who know their way around a bicycle! Reasonable rates, too, the work I've had done has been reasonably priced, well executed, and well supported. The beer and coffee (a genuine espresso machine!) are such perfect ways to pass the time while waiting for work to be done - or perhaps while simply passing through. The computrainer setup is really nice, state of the art with enough stations for a cycling team. I like the position in the front window, offers a really nice view of Biltmore Ave while spinning. The shop, overall, is clean and professional. Certainly worth stopping by if visiting Asheville, a superb addition to the culture of this city. read more

A bar in a bike shop! Oh, I'm a fan. They had gluten free beer to boot. I rented a hybrid one day and rode all over hells half acre. I rented a mountain bike another day and had a great afternoon out at Bent Creek. They were helpful and friendly in the rental process. I returned the mountain bike a total mess (got rained on) but they didn't say boo. Rental's were $40 per day which always feels like too much but it is standard almost everywhere. I was not in the market for a new bike, but I would say I did not notice any bikes in the low cost range if that's what you're looking for; mostly high-end bikes. In addition to the bar, there are a few comfortable chairs where I relaxed in the AC before heading out on the bike. read more

I'm a long time cyclist (67 years old) from Atlanta Ga. I decided I needed to look into e-bikes as an alternative in the western NC Mountains where we have a seasonal residence. Due to my size (6' 6") I found it almost impossible to find a shop anywhere that had a bike to test. I went to bike shop after shop in Atlanta and NC seeking answers... It was obvious that after my 2nd visit, most shops had no interest in a retired s/w engineer that had too many questions. Then, along came Frank, and Beer City Bicycles. What a difference! Frank spent time with me via phone and invited me to drop by for a visit. I took him up on the invitation and he spent more than enough time to answer all my questions, and then some more as I continued to email and call the shop before making a decision. Never a hint that I was overstaying my welcome. I finally ordered my Orbea Gain from Beer City Bicycles. We drove to Asheville to pick it up and Frank/Matt spent another couple hours getting me fitted. They suggested pedal spacers to accommodate shoe size and hip width, and then modified the setup based on some measurements I had sent. The bottom line is that I bought from Beer City because the shop and personnel are great. I love my new Orbea Gain. The assist levels are NOT like a scooter, but perfect for someone that still wants exercise with an assist to make cycling enjoyable again. Battery life is better than 3.5 hours (my weight: 215 lbs.), although I haven't ridden extreme climbs yet. Also, it's very lightweight (26+ lbs.) as compared to other e-bikes in the price range that are twice that or more. Finally, the 2020 models come with the coolest little computer that auto-connects to the bike via ANT+ technology whenever you power the bike up. It enables you to change assist levels up/down with one click, monitor exact battery levels and track time and distance without using the downloaded app. Oh yeah, and the bike is quiet! Last thing, it doesn't even look like an e-bike. I look forward to doing business with this shop on a continuing basis when we retire to western NC and highly recommend Beer City Bicycles! read more

I was recently in Asheville, NC for a trip and I headed to Beer City Bicycles to rent a mountain bike. To my astonishment...I walked into Mecca...there was a bar in the bike shop! They had an awesome Friday beer special as well! It was great to sit in the shop, surrounded by bicycles and have a pint while discussing awesome trails with the locals. Frank fitted me up for my mountain bike and took great care to make sure the bike was set up well for me (I am kind of short) and that everything was in perfect working order. The bike was AMAZING!!! I had an incredible time! They were courteous, helpful and dedicated to making sure everything was done right. There is not a friendlier shop in Asheville...and the concept of having a bar in the shop is not to be missed! If you love bikes, you should stop in Beer City Bicycles. This year while visiting, I just walked in for a visit to an empty store, excited to revisit what I consider to be a thrilling concept, and got snubbed right when I told them I was visiting from New Orleans. The dude literally turned around and walked away. And I'm a true bike guy! I may have been interested in buying a bike from him, or at least dropping some $$$ on some kit and a beer. 4 stars since I didn't actually have bicycle service done. I drove to NC from south Florida to enjoy the local mountain bike trails for a few days. Being a beer fanatic my cousin who lives local knew I'd love this place after riding Kitsuma. How perfect is a bike shop that serves beer, LOTS of beer! You can't see your bike outside while in the shop but don't worry, they have that solved. Roll your 2 wheeled horse right in the door and park it in the bike rack. It's still sort of "outta sight" but much better than it being in the parking lot. The shop is clean, well stocked and very friendly. We stayed for a couple of glasses each, traded good riding stories and off we went. I couldn't leave without buying a t-shirt. Rode my butt off for 3 days in Asheville, got the shirt to prove it! BTW my cousin bought his Intense bike from here and his experience went really well. Bikes and beer. What else is there?!?! read more
