New favorite bookstore in Sacramento. I first visited a few weeks ago and this time I decided to drop by after errands. The store has a wide selection of books on just about every topic. I was specifically looking for Mesoamerican mythology and history of colonial Mexico and I found it. Books are decently priced, they have both new and used. The price point is fairly accessible for the condition of the books. I love getting lost in those shelves it's the best part of bookstores in my opinion. Excellent bookstore, with particularly robust nonfiction section--well organized, easy to navigate, all the books in appropriately labeled shelves. And again, interesting book available! Pricing is affordable ($5-10). Fiction selection was well-populated, including not only the usual best-sellers, but what seemed like a curated collection of interesting books from the past several decades. I didn't spend much time looking at the classics section (again, always appreciate having classics separated out from fiction), but it was reasonably sized. Overall, recommend, I could have spent much longer browsing! I will certainly keep it in mind for another visit the next time I am in the area. read more

This book store is huge! Big plus that it is also dog friendly and connected to a vinyl store. The staff here is friendly and helpful. Great selection and variety of books, as well as gift items such as book lights, stickers, journals, sketch kits, and more. Prices are reasonable. What a cool book store. Located in downtown is Beer Books. Side note they do not actually have beer here. But fear not it's still great spot to find new and used books. The selection here is very large. My personal favorite is the pocket sci-fi. I had my eye on Wheel of time. Prices are great when it comes to used books. Service here is good. Everyone seems friendly but there were only two employees at the time so it was hard to get their attention. They also have a vintage vinyl shop connected. I highly recommend stoping by. read more

This is a Sacramento classic. Beers was on S before if I recall correctly. This new location is several years new now, but still "new" to those of us who've been coming to Beers for decades. I remember browsing books here, especially sci-fi and classics from my 20s, good times. The store is much bigger now and has a lot more to offer. Bookstores have transformed themselves to sell a lot of other items these days, I'm old school and used to just books and more books, but it's kind of cool to see records, and some gift items that come in handy for a last minute gift-giving. The amount of Knick knacks here were quite a lot though. Could be a bit dizzying. I saw canvas bags, Tsweatshirts, and souvenirs on sale. Staff is generally helpful if you are looking for something in particular and can't find the book or that category of books. The thing that set Beers apart is that they have a lot of used and/or specialty books you might not find in other store and just won't come across online if you're not into that topic or don't know that author, but here, you might just be browsing and discover a new book genre or a new author in a genre you already read, and that is what makes Beers cool. read more

What an awesome bookstore! Not going to lie, I was a little confused by the name at first, but later learned that "Beers" is a last name. Staff here are extremely helpful with looking for anything you might be trying to find. If they don't have it, they know of other local stores in the area that might. The selection here is HUGE. So many great new and used books, and the used books were priced extremely well. I found a book that has been on my TBR for awhile that was signed by the author, and less than $10. Though there are a lot of books to look through, the store is nicely organized by genre and then by author. It was easy to look for specific titles. Attached to the store is a vinyl store with plenty more to browse. If you're looking for a great bookstore in Sac, this is your next stop. read more

SITREP Years ago, whenever I was working as a state-newbie nearby and taking my lunch break, I would slip into Beers Books at their old location on T Street (or was it S? hmmm) and lose myself in the stacks and reading some of my favorite classic Science Fiction (Isaac Asimov) or Fantasy (JRR Tolkien) novels until I had to go back to work. THE SETUP Now Beers is on R Street, adjoined to Kicksville Vinyl Records and what a joy to spend a weekend afternoon loitering here. Picked up some classic Foundation series books (I had "lost along the way of life") so I sooth my mind with familiar passages (and compare and contrast with the NEW "Foundation" series - now in season 3 - on Apple TV. I've visited this bookstore a couple times. They have a nice selection of used books which are about half the price of their regular retail price. They have a lot of books to browse through. A visit here will likely take at least a half hour to look through your preferred section/genre. The staff is really helpful and friendly. The tricky park about visiting is finding parking. It is street parking (and metered). They are a couple blocks away from south side park which has a lot of parking spots around (and are also metered). read more

As a kid, I loved the Redwall series, so I habitually check bookstores I go to to see if they have any of the book. They had 4 books on hand! The rest of the selection is pretty extensive, and I appreciate that they have a mixture of old and new books. Definitely planning to keep coming here for more finds! read more

I visited Beers Books for first time on a Sunday afternoon right when they opened at 11:00am. This place is a book lovers paradise! There were so many books and loved that it was neatly organized by genre. They also had a section of vinyl records which was pretty cool. The staff were nice and helped me join their rewards program. Great new location. Same welcoming staff. Spacious among the stacks. Located on R Street, this is a convenient space to find. Parking is easy on the street. Would love it if some space to hang out and read, maybe with simple coffee and iced tea options would great. Good kids books to choice from. Some kid seating would also be great. I am in love. If I lived in Sacramento, I'd camp outside of this bookstore until they gave me a job. Lol! They have a lovely selection and some great hidden (or not so hidden) gems. The store I organized in an easy coherent fashion. I found a lovely copy of pride and prentice (folio society edition) for $45 in pristine condition. I am a happy woman. Definitely a great store! I made the mistake of not calling ahead before selling a bag of books and comics. On a Monday at 11am opening the manager was very annoyed with me. I appreciated and thanked them for their help and apologized many times. I didn't mean to inconvenience them but I was treated like garbage, especially by manager. He just wrote me a check and did not look me in the eye as I again said thanks and have a good day. Should not treat people who are selling books with such disrespect. read more

I've loved the Redwall series since I was a kid, so I always check bookstores to see if they have any of the books. I was excited to find four on hand! Nice browse. I will definitely return, even though I didn't find everything I wanted. I saw some prices that felt high for damaged and marked children's books, so I passed on those. The new book I bought was $6 more than the prices I found elsewhere, but they were the only store with it in stock. read more

One weekend day in the Fall, we stopped here at the request of my 21 year old daughter and she picked up a couple books. They have quite a large selection for these days as many of the bookstores, like record stores are shrinking or dying. Nice easy location for parking. Sacramento would be so depressing without Beers, my favorite used bookstore here. even though the atmosphere may sometimes feel a bit intimidating / cold, i don't care because the staff are true bookworms-- shy, introverted nerds, humbly & gracefully waiting on you, ready when you are. (note: this is a broad generalization, & i mean it to be a compliment, bc i myself am a huge, usually shy, bookfreak.) i've sold books here several times & though they can be quite selective even with bestsellers in excellent condition (imo), they are ultimately more generous than free & i always take store credit over cash bc they always have a book i want. more insight into how kind & generous Beers staff can be-- my husband & i got our engagement photos done at their old location on S St. they were so kind & let us act like fools, free of charge. highliest recommend, 100/100. read more

I love the new location! I love R St. It's so spacious and light. I would love a few more comfy chairs, but otherwise, it's great. They have a wide variety of prices. I've been wanting to stop at Beers (and Kicksville Vinyl - next door!). The shop has amazing selection of books. Love the staff recommendations shelf cards and the variety of local art and goods. I'm clearing out unwanted books. I called first and found out you have to make an appointment for them to look through your books and it takes them about an hour. They were very kind and courteous even carried the heavy boxes in for me. I am delighted to pass these books along for someone else to enjoy. I did get paid. It's a small amount, check or credit. FANTASTIC BOOKSTORE. (x100000 hearts) Hubby and I are in the area which means, of course, supporting the local small businesses of the city. Considering my love of books, of COURSE I'm going to try and visit as many bookstores that we can physically get to. We were able to find street parking fairly easily, but we came in on a Wednesday late morning. Walked in, was pleasantly greeted, and I was able to peruse without any issues. I started growing a bit of a stack, and was able to ask the employees if I can start creating a stack in the front somewhere, which they easily obliged. It seems like other customers have had the same idea, as the store had special laminated signs to place on top of the stack to denote that the customer is still perusing. Love! I probably spent around an hour there, though I could have easily spent a couple hours more (as we as a few hundred dollars). I was able to get some great Folio Society books, new books, and used (but looked pretty darn good) books. Very happy with my purchases. They also have a rewards program! I was able to join via my phone number, and the hubby can use my number if he's ever somehow there without me (a bit unlikely, but I love him anyway). Staff was top-notch. Everyone was helpful, answered questions when they could, and I felt very welcome to be there. Everyone wore masks, whether employee or customer, and there was hand sanitizer available in the front area. To fellow customers, please sanitize your hands before perusing the books! They also seem to be buying books, though it sounds like it's mostly by scheduled appointment, and one can only bring a limited amount of boxes/bags to sell at any time. I was so happy to stumble upon this gem, as I needed to kill some time in the area. There was parking right outside, on the street (free-one hour enforced) and I called on a whim, to make an immediate appointment.
