Though a couple of staff members were excellent in treating her as if they recognized her inherent dignity and worth, the majority fell short in this regard. Family members and friends were also responded to dismissively or defensively when asking legitimate questions or offering information that should have been welcomed as helpful. My experience left me questioning why some of the staff members even chose to work within the health care profession.
