My first visit was long and that made me feel so much more confident in being a new patient. He went over every detail I listed on the intake form, and asked tons of questions. I wish all Doctors were that thorough! I live in North Hills, but have no problem driving to Tarentum because of the excellent care I receive. Every single staff member has been friendly and empathetic and it's a very pleasant environment. Anytime I have questions or concerns, I can call and they are happy to help. They also have the most recent up to date treatments, which has helped me since I am very sensitive to medications. I just completed my first year of Botox, and also started Emgality today. Unlike other Specialists I've been to, Dr. Michel doesn't force medication, but gives you options, and is very open minded. I feel very respected as a patient because we actually talk about various treatments. I highly recommend Dr. Michel to anyone looking for an amazing Neurologist who truly cares. After I played the voicemail for them they said they were unaware I already rescheduled. After I established I already rescheduled they said "its all on paper". First, I had an appointment with the nurse practitioner Ann Patterson. After a short wait in the waiting room, a friendly medical assistant measured my height and weight and took my vital signs. She said that my blood pressure of 114/62 was "low," but actually it is normal. (I am a registered nurse.) After a wait of several minutes, the nurse practitioner entered the room. She spoke very courteously to me. She discussed my and my family's medical history. Then she performed a physical examination. She ordered a routine vaccine, laboratory tests, and an x-ray. Many minutes later, another employee entered the room to administer the vaccine, but he had mistakenly drawn up a slightly different type. Several minutes later, he returned with the correct vaccine. He properly administered it into my deltoid muscle. After this appointment, I visited other departments to receive my laboratory tests and x-rays. UPMC put the test results on their website, and the nurse practitioner wrote notes to explain that my results were normal. One year later, I had an appointment with the physician Jennifer Mall. A medical assistant took my height, weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate. My appointment was in the early morning, but the physician did not arrive at work until 45 minutes later. The medical assistant said that the physician usually arrives late so she can drop her children off at school. I think that they should not make me wait 45 minutes. The physician asked some questions, did a brief physical assessment, and ordered routine laboratory tests. Later, at home, I logged onto UPMC's website to view the physician's Visit Summary and Notes. I felt surprised to see a temperature recorded for me, because nobody ever took my temperature. I have no medical conditions, so no follow-ups or treatments are needed.

Upon check-in at her office, the staff members allowed other patients but not me to sign the sign-in sheet. Finally, they handed the sign-in sheet to me, and I filled it out, but then they did not bother to use it or look at my name on it. Anyway, I had a morning appointment, and I did not have to wait long to be called back to Dr. Mackey's office. I first saw her medical assistant, who took my weight and vital signs and asked me some questions. He had a pleasant personality. Several minutes later, Dr. Mackey entered the room. She made conversation with me to get to know me. Although I am slender and healthy, she talked with me about the importance of physical activity, which I think is important for all physicians to discuss with all patients. She performed a thorough physical assessment. (I am a nurse, and I approve of her assessment skills.) I asked her if she would order any lab tests for me, considering that my last lab work was done five years ago, and she ordered the tests for me.

As always, I still feel a tad rushed being in there, but maybe that's most places because they shuttle you in and out with so many patients to see. But this time I really felt like she listened to what I had to say. Things I was worried about, etc. I enjoyed that she shared some personal info with me, it made her seem a little more human and less white coat-y. I will admit, I'm still always listening for other people to say how much they like their doctor in hopes that one day maybe I'll find someone who really cares. Because isn't that the point of going into medicine and not the money (cough cough). We'll see...I'll keep you updated!

However, I have never had such a bad experience with a PCPs office before in my life. Back in July I had a very large mass on the front of my throat which was making it hard for me to breathe and swallow. (Clearly not covid. I had a visible lump on my throat.) I came into the office because I was afraid my air supply was going to diminish due to the mass and they made me wait in my car. Because I said "hard for me to breathe" they counted it as a covid apt and made me take a covid test in my car and wouldn't let me into the office until I got my results back. It ended up taking FOURTEEN days for my results to come back. After about a week of not hearing anything I tried calling the office (thinking they forgot to call me or something). NO ONE. ANSWERS. THE PHONE. So I left a message. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK. I left 3 more voicemails over the course of the next week. Literally no one called me back for another week. And this was for an issue unrelated to covid. And I ended up having to go to the ER because my breathing became very difficult. In August I had to go back due to a really bad cough. They didn't test me for covid this time but instead prescribed me a cough medicine and antibiotic. Totally fine. They asked me for my pharmacy and sent me on my way. Even though I gave them my pharmacy information they sent ONE of my scripts to my pharmacy and the other one to a completely different pharmacy. I called the office and asked if they sent that script and they said they would send it again. So they sent it again...to the wrong pharmacy. So I ended up going to that pharmacy to pick up. But for whatever reason they had cancelled the script instead of sending it. So I had to wait for an hour while they resent it and it got filled. Now over a week ago I got contact traced. So I went back to have a covid test. They told me I would have results in 3-5 days but that as of lately it was more likely to be 3. After 6 days of not hearing I called in (because I can't work until I get results and with holidays coming I can't really afford to not work). I left a voicemail...because surprise....no one answered. Then I called back 2 days after that and they didn't answer again. Left another voicemail. So then I had my husband call from his phone since we have a different last name and they answered on the first ring. I'm not typically someone to post negative reviews. Especially since there's a pandemic and I know everyone is trying to do their best. But here I am 8 days later and still no results thinking that they're screening my calls.
