I wish someone had warned me not to go here and this is my reason for this review- to save even one person from going. This is NOT at all about Dr Addington nor the hygienist and most of the dental assistants. Everything seemed fine until I had 2 dental emergencies and required dental work. Dr Piper will argue with you, not accept the reality of what you tell her, completely sucks at giving Novocain (for one procedure I needed literally 5 injections- she never moved where she injected me when I told her I was still in pain as she drilled- THE WORST dental experience of my life-and I have lived in several places around country!), will then decide she doesn't want you as a patient anymore- which for me was not returning my 4 calls for an appointment to replace a temporary crown- one that an obviously new dental assistant in their office put in wrong and messed up my bite which already had issues (for someone with TMJD issues,not good!). 2 of the calls we're speaking directly to her staff - I never received a call back to book an appointment after all 4 calls and a message from my husband directly to her front staff when he was there in the office! Pretty unethical, not to mention rude. Well they lost 2 patients in the process. Apparently they couldn't care less. It is actually all for the best now as I have an amazing dentist who listens to me, works with me and collaborates with other specialists for me. Stay clear of this place!!! The one star is for the good experiences with Dr Addington and a few hygienist and 1 dental assistant but unfortunately, due to the absolute horrible treatment by Dr Piper, that's the highest this place deserves. read more

I went to Belfast Dental Care for about five years +/-. All I ever had done was by the dental hygienist whom was excellent at cleaning teeth. THEN - I had a tooth crack. Yep, I was upset. But Dr. Piper's response was brutal. I still hung in there though. Eventually the tooth was pulled. I also made the suggestion that another tooth get a cap, just to be proactive, in case at some point in the future I would have another cracked tooth. This was a VERY BAD IDEA. I know that now. I feel that she should have known this too. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this particular tooth. But, she put a cap on it - shoving it into my mouth and walking out the door without checking in with me about how it felt. Of course they wear earbuds where everyone is talking about what's happening next - so there is tremendous distraction for everyone and poor quality service for the patient that is right in front of you. I never should have left her office that day I was in so much pain. I asked her assistant if I should be in this kind of pain and he said no. But, I got up and freakin' left. Yes, I was in so much pain and I was confused about what to do. Why would I go back in and ask her to fix this?? She has worse than terrible bedside compassion - & I had no confidence in her at that point. It also cost me $1,300!! I had so much trouble with her, specifically, from the first moment I actually needed care from her. My partner also had a great deal of trouble with her lack of skill before I did! Needless to say, we both see a different dentist now - we went back to a dentist I had for 15 years. He told me I really should have her fix this debacle of a cap, but I just couldn't. He said she chipped something... maybe my remaining tooth stub? He had to put a buckle on it - and it's been fine since. He also fit me with the most wonderful implant that was built for my mouth and fits like I was born with it. The difference in respect and care I receive with Dr. H is incomparable. I also find it interesting that it appears that Dr. Piper can skew Yelp results by 1) giving herself a five star review and 2) preventing poor reviews being factored into the algorithm... making her business look more respectable than it actually is. Pulled my tooth. Dr Piper did an amazing job. Quick and painless even though I requested bare minimum of anesthetic because I don't like having a numb mouth. Was like magic. Staff seemed eager to be helpful and caring. Although I don't have a fear of the dentist they also seem to be compassionate to the fact that others may. I'm only bummed by reading the poor review about the X-ray. read more

I have anxiety when it comes to the dentist 2 weeks ago I went in for a cleaning. The whole appointment I felt good I was told step by step of everything they were doing i met the dentist and was told everything was fine and to come back in 6 months for another cleaning. Just yesterday I got a call from the dentist office and the receptionist was very rude and had no bed side manner told me I had oral cancer and needed to be checked every months and that I had a cavity. This made no sense to me since when I left 2 weeks ago I was told everything was fine after spending all day yesterday worrying I decided to call today and speak to a dentist when calling I was refused and sent to a business manger where I was told that the receptionist never said anything like that and that when I left my cleaning I was crying and upset and not feeling good. Which is a lie after all of this being said I am looking for a new dentist because I want to be treated with respect read more

I can't say enough GREAT THINGS about Dr. Piper and her fantastic staff at Belfast Dental Care! I had just switched to Dr. Slaughter before he retired, and my first visit with Dr. Piper was when I broke two of my front teeth the day before Thanksgiving a couple years ago. Already short handed, she and her staff fit me in, and fixed both teeth as if nothing had happened at all. She was very patient, professional, and caring, fully explaining what was happening. I was immediately sold! I've been back many times since then for regular checkups, a couple fillings, and my first crown, ALL of which I am very pleased with. I've always been treated with complete respect by everyone from the minute I walk through the door until I leave. On one of my recent visits, I was scheduled for a checkup, but ended up needing a filling replaced, and Dr. Piper and Chris stayed until 7:30 or so that night to get it done, without one complaint! They never once made me feel bad for keeping them so late! Carley is the BEST hygienist I've ever had, so thorough, personable and caring. I've recommended several people to Dr. Piper and 3 people that I know of have taken me up on it, and I have to say, they love it there as well. One of them literally hated all dentists, and actually said to me one day, "I can't believe I'm telling you this, but I love my dentist!" Thank you ALL for making my visits pleasant. You're the BEST! Belfast Dental Care is continually overbooked. They are too busy to treat you with respect. The assistants are kind and polite (though often rushed) as they are trying so hard to make up for the blatantly rude doctor. Dr. Piper is rude and cold. I'm not looking to be sweet talked i just want to be treated with the respect every person deserves. It is my fervent opinion that her desire to make as much money as possible by squeezing in as many patients as possible make it impossible for her to do a good job. read more

This is an update of my bridge being "thrown out" without my permission by the following dental office: Belfast Dental Care, 19 Fehey Street, Belfast, Maine 04915 The Dental did contact me after the post on Yelp and wanted me to set an appointment. They did not say what the appointment was for. Since I feel this dental office is not reputable, at least in my case, I choose not to engage with them any longer, but stated I wanted my bridge returned to me. As for their feedback on the Yelp website stating they "throw away any apparatus" unless the patient asks for the apparatus. This is a cowardly misrepresentation of the circumstances. Since I was there for consultation on my bridge, I assumed the bridge was kept for matching my tooth color. I would NEVER given them permission to "throw it away" as I was going to obtain a second opinion concerning the bridge and if another dentist was able to re-install it since I did not have the funds nor the insurance to have a new bridge made, nor could I afford to get tooth implants. The office never stated to me that they threw the bridge out. They would only say that they could not find it. I continue to wait for compensation for my bridge. I have since filed a complaint with the Maine Board of Dental Practice in order for my bridge to either be returned to me or compensated for the bridge. Beverly Ann Settle read more

Dr. Piper and her team are wonderful. They show professionalism and are very personable at the same time. They take the extra time to ensure I feel comfortable and I have had considerable less anxiety at the dentist since becoming a patient. I have had major dental work done in the last two years with Belfast Dental Care, and they have always exceeded my expectations. I would never go to another dentist.
