Olivia was instrumental in preparing us for the first dance at our wedding in September. We came to her kind of last minute - our first lesson wasn't until late July, 8 weeks before the wedding - but she took us from 0 to 60 really quickly. When we first started, she was going to just make sure we knew all the basic steps and turns of two dances (the rumba aka box step and the hustle) so we could put them together naturally ourselves. She thought the flexibility would make my husband feel more comfortable. But when he said he'd feel more comfortable with actual choreography, she adjusted and helped us put something together. Sebastian helped my (now) hubby and I learn to dance for our wedding in record time (11 lessons - we started them one month prior to our wedding day!) I cannot recommend him enough! Here is why: 1 - He himself is an excellent dancer! He has the technical knowledge to teach you so many different dances (rumba, fox trot, merengue, etc.) and incorporate details (hand and head movement/placement, facial expression, strong frame) that will make you look like a pro! He also gave us some great tips like sliding our feet to ensure neither of us stepped on my dress, and had me wear a large structured skirt to ensure I was comfortable dancing in a wedding dress. 2 - He is a fantastic teacher. Right from the start Sebastian was excellent at reading us as a couple. He struck the right balance between hands on instruction, giving us constructive criticism, allowing us to discuss different aspects of our dance & make decisions without his input, and quietly encouraging us to grow on our own (then giving us high fives when we did!) He stepped in to demonstrate steps (as both man and woman) and if we were stuck on something always knew how to get us to "get it". Because of him we progressed quickly and grew more confident. He even video taped us twice to ensure we liked how we looked! 3 - He made this entire process FUN! Even though we were under pressure, he was funny, encouraging, sweet, supportive - and I was looking forward to our lessons because they were like mini-dates for my (then) fiance and me. 4 - He is flexible and truly cares about his clients & wants them to be happy and to nail their dance. We wanted to learn different steps but not have a super choreographed dance - we wanted it a little looser to take the pressure off of having to remember choreography. He worked with us (and our crazy schedules) to create exactly what we wanted and it worked out perfectly on our wedding day. He even sent us a thank you card and followed up with us to see how it turned out. Our dance turned out wonderfully - we felt comfortable, had fun, and have the pictures to prove it! My fiancé and I had such a great experience! We were two weeks away from our wedding when we realized we needed to step up our game for our first dance (we had a pretty unique song, "Wherever Is Your Heart" by Brandi Carlile), and Sebastian totally saved the day! My fiancee and I took private dance lessons with Uros - 10 lessons at first and then 2 additional that we added after our 7th to "perfect" our first dance for our upcoming wedding in October. Uros was great to work and hopefully we didn't drive him crazy (we still have 3 lessons to go)! As of a few weeks ago the studio was moved down the hall with more room (more than double the size). Going in to our 10th lesson we are definitely better than week 1. If you think you just want to go for one lesson and then be ready for whatever event it is that you are preparing for then that probably won't work. I found Bienvenue on groupon when looking for private dance lessons for my fiancé and I for our wedding dance. We went for our first lesson with Urosh and were hooked. My fiancé being German, we really wanted to do the traditional Viennese waltz which is a difficult dance to learn. One month before our wedding, we were panicking over finding a dance instructor. We took the introductory lesson with Diego and decided that this was the place for us. It was nice that there was a parking lot behind the building (SO rare in hoboken). Diego was such a great and patient teacher. He has a way of teaching small routines and slowly combining them into a full dance. He was able to choreograph and teach us a 2 minute route in a short amount of time. We were both surprised by how much we enjoyed these lessons. It was a time set aside for us to spend time and learn something together. My fiancé did private lessons and group lessons here in preparation for our 1st dance. What I like about this dance studio is that everyone is so willing to help and most importantly, humble. We did our private lessons with Regina Maziarz, who, by the way, made the whole experience worthwhile. Of course there were serious moments where we had to buckle down and learn the choreography, but at the same time, she knew how to make the process enjoyable. Trust me, when you're learning a new form of dance (we did Rumba and Salsa for our 1st dance), there's a lot of 'learning to lead and learning to follow' that has to be practiced. Regina made sure to go over the choreography step by step, was critical when we needed her to be, and was very open to a lot of ideas we had. The lessons went by so fast and I can't tell you how prepared we were in the week leading up to the wedding!! If and when you do decide to take private lessons here, be sure to be as open and direct as possible. The studio and instructors are reasonable and will tailor the lessons to you and how you want it to look. After all, you'll be spending a lot of time in and outside of the studio to perfect your masterpiece. Forgot to mention, our 1st dance received so much great feedback from our guests. Olivia is a phenomenal dance teacher. We went to her 8 weeks before our wedding day with an almost impossible feat - teach two people who had never salsa-ed before how to do a first dance to Vivir Mi Vida - one of the faster songs we could have chosen. We took 15 dance classes total and absolutely nailed it on our wedding day - to a standing ovation! Olivia started with basic steps so we understood the rumba and salsa, and then starting choreographing our dance with incredibly complicated spins and turns which we never thought we'd master - but with her patience and coaching we were able to pull it together, complete with a fused together intro of "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman.
