The owner, Robert Forsythe made a point to introduce himself and talk to us for a few minutes. He could not have been more pleasant. There is no way he would recognize me. I am not someone that should be known and honestly doubt I have been in his store since high school. We found a few items for my wife. The staff wrapped them and chatted with us until our items were ready. We were happy to give them our business. To point out how long Mr Forsythe has been providing quality service, I will relay a story I distinctly remember from my mom. I doubt he would remember the story but 30 years ago my mom was shopping for me before I went to college. I remember her coming in quite proud of her efforts. She had been struggling to find me ties for a new suit. She went in Forsythe's (different location back then). Mr Forsythe had helped her. She found several she liked but took particular interest in the tie he was wearing. As she was checking out, he took his tie off and gave it to her as an appreciation of her business. In my opinion, that is going beyond what is required or expected.

I always go with my husband on a Saturday, and recently when we dropped in, we found the spring sale whittled down to half-of-half-of-half on an outdoor rack. A very friendly sales assistant greeted us and started a changing room for me. When we were finished perusing the items, she led us to it and offered us both something to drink. We declined this time, but I have often taken them up on the offer, especially if I had a lot of items to try. Every single year, I find one or two (or three!) gems at this sale, things I wear for years and on which I get compliments for years. But this year, I walked more carefully through the rest of the store, not just to ogle the $3,000 suits and dresses, but to see what they had in other price ranges, and they really do have some affordable and beautiful pieces that you wouldn't necessarily have to wait for the sale to buy. Barbara Jean's most wonderful attribute is that the sales associates are ALWAYS friendly and welcoming. There are other "expensive" boutiques in Little Rock that definitely do NOT share this feature -- it's as if you have to prove to them you are worthy to shop there. When the time comes for me to buy a really expensive piece, those stores will not be my destination of choice. Barbara Jean will!

I browsed around for a while to see if someone would eventually ask if I needed help, but no one did. There were two white women shopping in the store, and I noticed the employees were actively assisting them. I'm African American, and I was standing nearby browsing on my own. There was also another gentleman who was assisting one of the customers, and at no point did anyone step away for even a moment to acknowledge me or ask if I needed help. I understand employees may be helping other customers, but a simple "Hi, we'll be with you shortly" goes a long way. As a African American customer, being the only person in the store who wasn't acknowledged while white customers were being assisted made me uncomfortable and left me questioning why I was treated differently. I ultimately left without purchasing anything. Customer service and making every customer feel welcome matters, and unfortunately, I did not feel welcomed during my visit.

Why would we buy anything here?" My son quickly agreed and made a snide remark about the prices in general. With that, we left without hearing a "thanks for coming in" or "have a good day." If being ignored and treated rudely while shopping for overpriced items is your thing, this is your place. I don't mind spending the money. I do expect to be treated courteously.

After I ordered I got a text message from someone at the shop that the size dress I selected was no longer in stock but they had one in a size up. I thought... 'can always have my tailor take it in'. A few days later my order arrives in Indianapolis (they were very quick to ship out) and the dress fits like a glove! Maybe a small take in at the bust but honestly this inventory snafu was a blessing. Everything about ordering was easy and they always have nice sales (been eyeing things for a half year now). Will purchase from again because they carry designers I like and they take pictures on models that are real people. Very easy to imagine how an outfit would look on me.

Saw lots of outdoor clothes. Cool hats. The lone male employee when we shopped here on 7.21.2025 was super nice and funny. The clothing is a bit higher end thus a bit more expensive, but everything was of good quality and it's different than what anyone else downtown had. Even the stickers. I love my new Goodr sunglasses. My daughter bought a pair too. We waited a bit for the guy to find the matching boxes, but it was worth it. Big fan of this shop.
