Anyway, so happy my cousin, Angel, chose Captain Newton's! Me and my husband were fortunate to stay there with her. We stayed in one of the two bedrooms in the main home. Angel had the other bedroom. My aunt & uncle stayed in a suite in the back/side of the home (it has it's own private entrance, so they could come & go without disturbing anyone). Things I loved about the B & B..... The owner's were welcoming, affable, and super accommodating. Having never stayed at a B & B before, I didn't know what to expect, and was somewhat worried that it would be strange staying at someone's home. However, it was not strange at all! The owner's do live on the premises. Their residence is attached to the main home (the entrance to their home is behind the little kitchen nook, and leads into their beautiful kitchen). They were exceptional hosts. Giving you your privacy, yet at the same time, making sure you had everything you need at all times. I couldn't be more impressed. I LOVED the decor! There was great attention to detail in making it feel like home away from home. It was comfortable and beachy cute. While the furnishings were newer, they kept the style traditional to match the age of the home. I loved all the beautiful touches.....Flowers, cute pillows, little wooden signs with positive sayings. And I especially loved the two porch swings. One swing on the top balcony, and the other on the lower balcony. We spent much time up their hanging out, drinking wine, and just breathing in the calm and fresh air. A delicious breakfast was provided for us daily. For example: Quiche, sausage, granola, fruit dish, fresh juice, milk, etc. Such a nice treat! The location is ideal! We were walking distance from all the cute shops, the convenience (wine/liquour store), the water, and great restaurants. It was centrally located. Also, there is a pool with a separate jacuzzi....YAY! As I said earlier, our visit was in October, but we still wanted to use their beautiful pool, so they heated it the pool for us to perfection. What a great way for us to spend the day after the wedding! Once more thing I loved was that they had bikes for us to ride around town. The weather was great for a bike ride, and we toured the cute little town checking out the harbor, the old cemetery, the old jail, etc. It is such a beautiful little town, and ideal location to have a wedding. If you are visiting Southport NC, and looking for a place to hang your hat, look no further. Captain Newton's is it!

The bathroom was very nice and clean although I was a bit confused where the toilet paper was at since there wasn't any holder for it. The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The only bad thing I could say is, much like another bed and breakfast I stayed in, we couldn't control the temperature or run a fan to make any noise. This was a ok for me, but just a word of caution. The temperature of our room was always good even when it was cold at night. The breakfast was a little different than I've had at B&Bs before as it was a buffet style with mostly cold items. There were some premade omelettes that could be microwaved, but I was good with a bagel and a big sized bowl of cereal. The small selection of pasteries was great! When I made a reservation, they recommended reserving a tram service which would take you and your bags from the ferry to the B&B. I skipped this part since it's not very far of a walk and I thought we could stretch our legs. The free good cart is definitely a HUGE plus. We were able to go across the island and back zig zagging some and making some stops. The free WiFi also kept us entertained while it was raining outside. If I could afford to come back another time, I would definitely stay here again.

I called and my brother called Suzanne separately after hurricane Gordon hit . She assured us that all was good and the media was blowing things out of proportion. Well, she lied . I think it was because she didn't want us to cancel our trip. She told us the chamber of commerce advised her not to give any information about the flooding. Really? Our lives are at stake! Even her street and driveway was flooded. We could not do several things we planned because of the flooding. Suzanne would not answer any of our questions with direct answers .to anything we asked her about anything. I asked her which restaurants were within walking distance and she said " I don't know" She is the owner! Really?! Breakfast was very sparse . She did not offer seconds. I left still hungry. She had a lot of rules like not being allowed in the kitchen and not being able to turn the cooling system up or down as much as we would like. She said it was a retirement community and we had to be quiet, and also the tv did not work. the rest of her guests that were suppose to come the next day never showed up (probably because of the flooding) We left 2 days early because of all this. I wish that they told you to bring your own supplies such as toilet paper, paper towel, dish soap, tablets, sponge, trash bags, laundry soap, and bath towels. They have a washer and dryer however the dryer is not funtional when you turn it on the lint catcher that seperates the cloths from the heating element comes off. The dishwasher's top rack is broken and hangs down on oneside making it hard to use. The sink has no garbage disposal and backs up easy. And the place is not very clean as a matter of fact it boarders on unsanitary, the kitchen floors look like they have never been cleaned, sticky stuff on the light switches, moldings and baseboards, the screens are broken and I think the last time the windows were cleaned may have been the last century. The mattress on the beds are horrible unless you dont mind rolling downhill to the middle of the mattress, very uncomfortable to sleep on. The more we write the lower the rating goes, the only thing keeping this from being a one is the beautiful view and easy access to the ocean. The owners need to do a better job of maintaining the property and should consider hiring another cleaning company if they have one at all. The property management company has been accomodating and did send a maintenace person out when we called because of the shower was backing up, they also brought us some baking sheets upon request.

Massive rental homes that are beautifully decorated. We've stayed here twice in different sections…read more(both times in winter) and LOVED both homes. Very family friendly and quiet. 6 person golf cart included for free with every rental home. People running the Hammocks were fantastic and greeted us at the ferry very late at night with our babies. All the homes are really decked out with electronics, board games, baby equipment, lots of extra kitchen appliances, etc. Massive screened porches and decks on the homes. seriously, can't say enough good things about this place and Bald Head Island. During our Christmastime stay we drove around the island and saw lots of deer and a few red foxes. Our babies were delighted. FYI, if you have small children, drive around in the golf cart with blankets during nap time. Our children napped for 2 hours while my husband & I enjoyed driving around the island. We came at Christmas and another time in January when the island is quieter, but we wouldn't hesitate coming during the summer to swim in the pool and ocean. Lots of scheduled activities during peak season.

Just got back from a trip at Bald Head Island. I was extremely unsatisfied with the rental. When we…read moregot there the golf carts did not have the plastic covers as it is cold in December that should've been done by the management team. There was no power in the garage so you had to manually lift the garage doors, and there was no light in the garage which is dangerous. It was disturbing to find wood next to the cooking surface covering a very large hole with duct tape and OSB board. The ocean front view was obstructed in one of the bedrooms by plywood on the window. With no blind in that bedroom the light came directly in in the mornings. The electrical panel could not be found it was locked in the owners closet. That is clearly a violation to not be able to turn the electric off in the house. We also could not get in that room to try to fix the wiring and get the lights working in the garage and the garage door opener's. I reached out to the staff and Gloria didn't want to hear any complaints, didn't like my directness, I didn't like paying $4700 for a weeks vacation with things that simply are broken and not ready for tenants. The name of the house was Carolina Dreaming. It's great when they take pictures of the front of the house so that you can't see all of the flaws that are truly in the home. The maintenance staff when called did come and repair all of the lights that were out and electricity not working in the garage. It did not take away my unhappiness about a unit that should never have been rented to the public and certainly the Property Management by their own admission, said she was never in the property. You would think that they would check the unit before renting it. Meanwhile I spent my own time on vacation putting plastic on golf carts and cleaning them up so that you could go around the island. The bicycle that was there has nothing but rusty chains and would not be able to go anywhere. Very disappointed in this company and the rental. 226 W Bald Wynd
