    Twilight on the private porch.

This place is amazing. Friendly, cheerful staff, delicious breakfast, private screened in porch, and of course, everything was very clean. If you're an observant person, it's obvious these guys go the extra mile for their guests, and little details are not overlooked; silky soft bedsheets, cold orange juice in the fridge, and soothing music playing on the TV at our arrival, to name a few. And with the In-room UV air filters, it gave us an added sense of safety. I can't imagine what else you could want. Kudos to the entire staff!!! This level of service and accommodation at a reasonable price is rare these days.

We came to Sunset Beach to surf and found this hidden gem. The rooms here are fantastic. We booked Old Baldy and enjoyed the beautiful sunset view and birdwatching from our back porch. The keepers at this relaxing B&B are very kind and super helpful. They had such great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We couldn't have been more pleased. Breakfast was fresh made each morning along with some other nice options. We were able to check in early and check out late with no problems. Another great benefit they had was a storage space downstairs where we easily kept our boards safe. Put this place on your list of NC B&B's!!

My husband and I stayed here for our "babymoon" and have found a new place to come to hopefully once a year. It was perfect. No crazy crowds, loud noises, or unfriendly people. Sunset Beach is perfect for anybody just trying to relax and enjoy the beach. This Inn has been fabulous. It's clean, beautiful, and the staff feel like family! The breakfast is so good as well! We felt it was reasonably price also. 10 out of 10 would recommend The Sunset Inn. Couldn't have imagined a better place to stay.

Madison house is a gorgeous Victorian gem, decorated in appropriate era furniture and art, this house is lovely. It is a little worse for wear, but honestly I'd rather stay here than any of the chains. We stayed in the king room without our own tv. Most rooms are queen rooms, but all have 4 poster beds and lovely decorating. The pool and the porch. Wrap around porch was lovely place in the morning. The pool is delightful and surrounded by plants everywhere. Breakfast was simple and delicious. I asked for scrambed eggs, and they came fluffy with cheese. Perfectly crisp bacon, toast was lovely, and the banana nut muffin was quite good. The coffee is AWESOME! The proprietor is a lovely woman who is friendly and delightful.

Of course the kitchen is gourmet country chic, and the pool is a more modern touch, but the classic architecture and artwork that adorn the mini mansion coupled with the destination's crown jewel, Mrs. Yvonne, make it a wonderful place to relax, rest, and be at ease. Mrs. Yvonne is a classic southern woman with a welcoming "down-home" demeanor. She's a pleasure to chat with, if that's your thing, and a good cook to boot! It was nice to take a moment to talk to her and it did my heart good in the wake of losing my dad. We are sure to return to such a charming place!

There is no official front desk, so we spoke with the people at the stand by the parking lot, and they were able to share information and assist bringing my parents' bags to their room, up a flight of stairs. There's a small sitting area on the balcony outside the rooms, and each room has its own unique decor. We love the eye for detail and design. Our room is The Hamptons, with two double beds and a separate room with TV and sitting area and desk (though it is open to the bedroom because no doors exist in the doorway; it would be cool if they had sliding doors to separate the spaces). The bar downstairs is lively and fun with amazing cocktails and a few small bite options, and it operates from the backyard yard of the Inn, so be prepared for a bit of noise from that and the street to filter into the room especially on weekends. This bar doubles as the Concord Espresso House that serves amazing espresso drinks and pastries in the morning. The indoor seating is low key elegant, a great spot to sit and start your morning.

On Sunday the customer service at the lobby desk were just plain rude. I went to ask for air freshener for the room and they refused to give me any and said that they had to do it themselves and would be right up although she never got up off of her seat and never ever ever came to the room, we had to open the door to the balcony just to try and get some fresh air flowing to aid. We did notice housekeeping using a Wet BROOM to clean another unit. No mop anywhere to be seen. Maybe the smell was coming from improperly cleaned floors. Security was a little bit of concern as many exterior lights were out. Scariest place was outside of elevator downstairs. Also the fact that the elevator kept closing on us as we tried to get inside. Elevator acted up the entire time. We loved having the pool open and also the indoor jacuzzi and pool. Fix your own breakfast was provided. Access to beach was perfect. Sadly, this is not a place I would recommend overall due to poor customer service (don't even get me going on how you have to throw out your trash and used towels outside your door. You will receive however many towels they want to give you. Forget replacing garbage bags, coffee, etc.) noisy room (next-door to upstairs water pump that ran like a loud vacuum continuously,) and safety issues (open electrical live wires by pool.) The guests were all nice and mostly understanding of things they disliked about the property. (We didn't discuss it, we just heard conversations every day at breakfast about all of them complaining of issues I described as well as stale food or lack of things like butter.) I would most definitely go back if things were updated and some of the negative people at front desk and housekeeping changed their negative behavior.

If I could have given this place a -10 STARS I would have! I can not say enough terrible things…read moreabout this place and implore you to do your research, even if that is just looking at the pictures that I will post with this review. Let me start by saying we only tried this place because some nice people on the beach recommended it, I will say its location at Sunset Beach can not be beat! However unless you plan to sleep on one of the lawn chairs at the pool (which we debated) I highly recommend you skip it! We stayed in Room 113 and arrived around 10:15pm. My phone had died on the way in so the first task after opening the room was finding an outlet so that I could charge my phone. Maybe not the best choice... I couldn't get any light to turn on because apparently they weren't plugged it, the hairballs I encountered were larger than my fat cats that I left at home, and the shear amount of dirt and toilet paper was enough to turn your stomach. I did finally find an outlet beside the very dirt toaster oven. There was a microwave but I wasn't brave enough to look inside. The second thing I had to do was find the restroom... another unfortunate need. The shower curtain was COMPLETELY black with mold and there was hair in the shower. (GROSS!) Last but definitely not least when my husband turned down the bed the king size bed had been left with a Queen fitted sheet and flat sheet. Yep folks, just when you think it couldn't get any worse we tried to adjust the fitted sheet only to find the most apprehensive, disgusting, and unsanitary mattress pad that was crusted with yellow stains of God knows what! Lord help us if we had had anywhere else to stay we would have left immediately. Needless to say out of desperation my husband and I huddled on one side of the bed (the "cleanest" side) clinging to one another and shared the one pillow I had brought from home. Did I mention we sprayed the entire bed with Lysol before we laid down. We neither one slept a wink and arose early just to get the heck out of that cootie infested room. We spent all day on the beach and around 4pm decided to go back, carefully not touch anything and rinse off (don't worry we wore flip flops and used our own towels) and GO HOME. Leaving our last night unused but thankful to go home to our clean beds and house. I did send an email to Sloane Vacation Rentals who manages the property and they did call and say that someone from management would follow up. No one from management has followed up. Unless you want some type of cootie or std I would highly suggest NOT staying here and wasting your money. It was soooooo gross! **Also wanted to add that there was an unknown blood or fecal substance on the light switch in the bathroom. Don't worry it is pictured below.
