This was our first time at Sunset Beach and it's now one of our favorites. It's quiet, laid back, and has a huge beach area. This Inn is divine! Comfortable space, with wonderful beds, great water pressure in the shower (and they have two outdoor showers that are private!), a solid breakfast offering, and wonderful people working there. Sunset Beach is a delightful beachtown in North Carolina that is always a fun place to visit. We stayed at the Sunset Inn in June 2020, mid-Covid. The inn took Covid precautions seriously and we were told where to park and that we'd be picking up our key directly from our room, the front lobby was locked off. We were in the Smithville Room which is on the 1st floor. The shade of blue selected for the walls may be the most serene color I've ever seen. Every room in the inn overlooks the marsh and has it's own screened in porch and rocking chairs. Before dinner, a deer quietly walked by our room, just 2 feet away and stopped and ate some leaves before moving on. There is some noise from the bridge traffic, but since I could see in the pictures that the rooms overlooked the bridge it wasn't a surprise, I suspected we'd be able to hear some. It was our first time here and the inn was upfront that things weren't usual - there was no in-person check-in, no daily housekeeping (you can check things off on a list if you need them), and the glowingly-reviewed breakfast I'd read about online was reduced to a lackluster selection of single serve offerings like Nutrigrain bars, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and nuts. 2 bottles of orange juice were provided in the room's refrigerator. We didn't talk to anyone while we were there... well, I said good morning to the person who was putting out breakfast items when I went to get coffee and received a silent glower in response. All the guests stayed in their rooms or went out to the beach. Each room has an assigned storage unit on the bottom floor for sandy beach gear that was quite ample in size and very conveniently located, that was a nice surprise to find. There is no elevator. Our neighbor above paced the room endlessly so I'd likely seek out a 2nd floor room for a return visit, just to ensure no one was above us. Price in June 2020 was $269 a night, $303.30 with taxes. read more

This place is amazing. Friendly, cheerful staff, delicious breakfast, private screened in porch, and of course, everything was very clean. If you're an observant person, it's obvious these guys go the extra mile for their guests, and little details are not overlooked; silky soft bedsheets, cold orange juice in the fridge, and soothing music playing on the TV at our arrival, to name a few. And with the In-room UV air filters, it gave us an added sense of safety. I can't imagine what else you could want. Kudos to the entire staff!!! This level of service and accommodation at a reasonable price is rare these days. read more

This place is incredible. What a gem! Where do I begin? The rooms all have an incredible porch overlooking the intracoastal waterway with rocking chairs and a porch swing. The breakfast was awesome (especially considering it's during COVID and it's less than what they normally do)! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The king-sized bed was super comfortable. It's only a half mile walk down to the beach access.....LOVED this place. We will definitely be back. read more

Returned here this past summer for a couple nights in the Bird Island Room. The addition of HDTVs in the rooms is a big plus. My wife and I love The Sunset Inn. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irene forced us to cut short our stay...but on the plus side, it only means we have an excuse to come back next year and stay longer! ;) read more

We came to Sunset Beach to surf and found this hidden gem. The rooms here are fantastic. We booked Old Baldy and enjoyed the beautiful sunset view and birdwatching from our back porch. The keepers at this relaxing B&B are very kind and super helpful. They had such great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We couldn't have been more pleased. Breakfast was fresh made each morning along with some other nice options. We were able to check in early and check out late with no problems. Another great benefit they had was a storage space downstairs where we easily kept our boards safe. Put this place on your list of NC B&B's!! read more

We recently spent 3 nights at this lovely property. We were celebrating my birthday! The first evening we had an amazing sunset. The porch is wonderful and the room was nice and comfortable. Our last night we got back from a busy day. The soap, shampoo that I requested were left hanging in a bag on the door knob. If they had went in our room, they would have seen the bed stripped and linens in a pile. I had to make the bed and some parts of the sheets were wet from towels. I have never had to make my bed in a hotel!!!!! Not a happy Camper. If the bag of supplies had been placed in our room, it would have been obvious we needed our bed made. The lady spoke to did not seem very sorry that happened. She was too busy pointing to a paper with rules. Lastly, the steps are not safe. They were several nails sticking up and only a rail on one side of steps. Otherwise, I loved Sunset Beach read more

I would give this inn 6 stars if yelp would allow me. My girl and I had one of the best experiences of our life when staying here. First off, the location is fantastic. The inn is located on a coastal marsh within walking distance from the beach. We stayed in the Hatteras room. We had a very large, private screened in porch facing the marsh. During the day, we were able to sit and watch the diverse wildlife from birds to deer. At night, the marsh came alive with all sorts of sounds. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. From booking the room all the way till the end of our stay, we were treated like family. The breakfast every morning was buffet style, and we were allowed to take it back to our room. The food was very good and changed slightly every day. The room cleanliness was some of the best I've ever seen. It was cleaned each day and always smelled great. We cannot wait to return for our next vacation. This inn along with the town of Sunset Beach are very unique and wonderful places on earth. I wish them all the best, and we will see them in the future. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Inn and got married on the beach. The Inn was gorgeous, clean and tranquil. From the moment I called to make my reservation to the moment we checked out of our room the service was overwhelmingly superior! The staff was personable and caring. My husband and I stayed here for our "babymoon" and have found a new place to come to hopefully once a year. It was perfect. No crazy crowds, loud noises, or unfriendly people. Sunset Beach is perfect for anybody just trying to relax and enjoy the beach. This Inn has been fabulous. It's clean, beautiful, and the staff feel like family! The breakfast is so good as well! Seashore Haven Our two-day visit to Sunset Beach was excellent. The Inn was very comfortable. Our third floor room was tastefully decorated and gave a real "beach" feel. The screen porch offered beautiful views of the marsh and evening sunsets. The beach, a short walk from the Inn is clean and perfect for long walks. The Inn staff is friendly and helpful. Their DVD library offers a good selection of movies for room viewing. We had planned a fun 4hr kayak trip, but sadly the weather turned cold and windy. The Inn had no issue with our cancelling the trip and promptly refunded the fee. We replaced that activity with a visit to a wonderful craft center a short drive south. Casual area restaurants offer tasty seafood and several well-crafted beers. We arrive home relaxed and well rested. read more

My husband and I stayed here for the long Valentines weekend. We stayed in the Charleston room. It was clean and cute and even had its own screened in porch with rocking chairs overlooking the inlet. The staff was so friendly and had even baked some Valentines treats, got some chocolates and a mini bottle of champagne and placed them in our room for our weekend. Very nice touch. Walking distance to the beach and there are quiet a few local restaurants to try within a short drive. We also went down to Myrtle Beach, it was a short drive and fun day trip. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet get away. read more

Amazing, beautiful bed and breakfast. My husband and I stayed here when we got married. We were running slightly late from Raleigh, so I called and let them know we were on our way. I mentioned we were getting married the next day, so we would definitely be there. The wonderful manager put a complimentary bottle of champagne in our room as a congratulations. The breakfast was great, room was large (Scotch Bonnet) and very clean. Also, another plus? FANTASTIC WATER PRESSURE IN THE SHOWER. Large screened back porch as well. Here's the deal: I needed a place to take my fiancee on a special trip. Being the kind of person I am, I wanted it to be *incredibly* special - as in, flowers waiting for us, chilled wine, the works. Oh - and it had to be near a great beach, and it needed to be reasonably priced. Enter the Sunset Inn. I found them online, noticed that they had rooms available when I needed them (including one of the grand rooms on the top floor - the Bird Island Room), and they had a reasonable price for the time of year and location. Thus, I signed up, expecting to get some of the other details nailed down later. A short while later, I get an e-mail: they noticed that I only signed up for two weeknights, and they're running a mid-week special of buy-two-get-one-free (it's on their website). Would I like my free extra night? Plus one for trying to help me out. Add more bonus for the fact that The Sunset Inn was actually *closed* when they were talking with me - they just wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. I struck up an e-mail conversation with them (thanks, Andrea!), and started to set up everything else. We discussed and arranged for the wine (I specified Duplin Winery Hatteras Red - they were *more* than happy to oblige), we discussed and arranged for a special bouquet of flowers -- and, at the last minute, we also arranged for some food, a welcome sign in the room, and ... for Andrea and I to pretend that this was "spontaneous" so that I could truly surprise my fiancee (she thought this was something I'd just decided to do, not knowing that I had been setting this up for her for over a week). Lastly, since my fiancee can't eat pork (and The Sunset Inn does a nice hot breakfast), they bought her some special turkey sausage. Given all this, as you might expect, our mini-vacation was a smashing success. And not only *would* I recommend The Sunset Inn to a friend, I already *have* recommended it to everyone I can buttonhole. (Obviously, it's not for kids - only two people to a room. My husband and I spent our Anniversary in the Hatteras Grand Room this past weekend. Everything was perfect. Andrea, Courtney & Cynthia made our stay very special with the Romantic Package we purchased. Breakfast both mornings were super. We enjoyed the marsh view from our screened in porch. The beach was within walking distance. They also suggested restaurants and our Anniversary dinner was perfect. They also recommended sites to see. For years my wife and I have rented homes on Sunset Beach. Last week we finally stayed at the Sunset Inn and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Grand room we had was spacious and very comfortable. The bed gave my back just the right amount of support. Sitting on the screened porch was something we did morning, afternoon and evening because of the serenity it offered. Andrea and the staff took good care of us. While we will keep doing weekly house rentals, we will also start doing more quick getaways - and we now have the perfect place to go. read more
