I really do love the Asian massage places and actually prefer them over the large chains that mention membership while rubbing your back. Honestly not much English is spoken, but that's fine because there does exist a mutual understanding. But in this case, it seemed like there was a mutual mis-understanding. The price list said that $60 was for 60 minutes, $90 was 90, etc. I chose 90 minutes and asked if I could use my debit card. They said yes, but it would be an additional $7 charge. I figured fine, I was in pain. It was an ok massage, definitely nothing special, but when I tried to communicate with her she really, really didn't understand what I was saying. So I gave her what I thought she deserved as a tip (I'm usually a great tipper, but also fair), and she shook her head and told me that for a $97.00 massage, she wanted twice as much. I think she understood the expression on my face when I walked out.

The salon is located in downtown Somerville and has plenty of parking spots around. Public metered parking is pretty cheap and right behind the salon. Carina was my stylist and she did a wonderful job with my hair. I have pretty long hair and just wanted to get my split ends trimmed. She patiently listened to my request and made sure she wouldn't chop extra hair. Most salons charge extra if the hair is longer than shoulder length but SAFFIRE DOESN'T. I also got a 'glaze' done which was only $15 if you use Groupon for your main service. Regular price is about $30 I think. So in total I paid $45 for a haircut, glaze, shampoo and blowdry and that's a steal. Also, Carina was kind enough to run and add coins when my car parking time was expiring since I had product in my hair. They have a cute coffee station with coffee, cookies and other cold beverages. I was surprised with a small goodie bag as a new client. The bag had a hair serum and 2 discount coupons for future services. Overall, I had a great experience from the moment I walked into the salon till I left. I highly recommend this salon. Ask for Carina. She's sweet and the best!

When I called to make the appt., I asked to be placed with someone who had been with salon at least 3 years and was an expert with color/highlights. I've been getting my hair highlighted for 30+ years and have never had an experience like this, and my hair has never looked this bad. The color is atrocious, the haircut looks like a 5 year old did it, the blow out was even worse. My hair is so badly damaged (like straw) it's going to take quite a while to recover, my hair is very short so I cannot even cut it to remove some of the damage.

I don't usually write reviews…read morebut decided to since I called up the salon after to explain my unhappiness so they could " make it right" and they never even called me back! My pedicure was SO fast .. I didn't even get a foot massage. My biggest complaint is that my nails chipped by the afternoon and I let them dry for 30 minutes and even asked before leaving if I was good to go! Every single nail was chipped and peeling by that night and I had a party. I would never go back again! They should have called me back and offered a credit or a new manicure.
