We have worked with Fern and Bella for multiple projects over the last 5 years; in the end they have remodeled or updated every surface in our house (floors, walls, ceilings) - at least once (and our kitchen, twice). We keep returning because the results have been about as perfect as possible, and the quality has been top notch. The only thing that has ever needed to be revisited, was the outline of a fluorescent inset light that had been patched with drywall in the ceiling, which after 6-12 months sagged a bit so the outline was clearly visible in what should have been a smooth ceiling; Fern came and take a look, and quickly got the team to redo it all, and it was perfect. For so much work across so many projects, that's pretty amazing quality. The team is great about communicating when they will be onsite, Fern is very responsive on text and phone. We have had some miscommunications about  billing methodology, however we don't feel that we have overpaid or been misled. It just seems every contractor has a slightly different way of computing their costs and explaining them in a invoice, and handling additional work as it comes up. My husband and I recently had our master bath and guest bathroom remodeled by Bella Home Builders and Crew and we are very happy with the results. We recently did a completely new Deck for out home with Bella. I've done two projects with Bella - first a pergola then a window replacement/sliding door installation (where a window used to be) & exterior remodel. I am super happy with the level of quality and overall attention to detail they've provided. Fern has been a partner in design along the way, suggested great materials and provided solid recommendations as to why to do things in a certain way. Bella is a reasonable business doing high/ultra high quality. Professionalism: very careful. Communications and estimates and scheduling leave no room for misunderstandings. He has clearly been to the rodeo. Price: I can do better, but nothing hidden or unclear. Overhead charges are fine for large projects but not geared for small tasks. I certainly get what I pay for- work done very well, on schedule and without frustration. Flexibility: aces all the way. I have a ton of my own ideas- I would get 1 star if I had a client page and the contractors rated me. Fern gets me what I want! He installed an elevator for me to Cary gear to the attic, the install was custom bordering on nutty, he made it work and finished to the finish satisfaction of my wife. Quality: Rigo is the guy you want on your project- amazing worksmanship and he totally sees problems before anyone else. Fern is an artist- i had removed speakers from a wall and had a drywall patch job- flat wall no texture, strong bright downlights- he thought it might force a whole wall float and repaint, but tried a local patch first- I can't believe how it well it turned out. Fern with Bella Homes did a phenomenal job of our attic remodeling project. It was a complex construction project that involved reinforcing the foundation, replacing stud walls with shear walls, building a staircase, and fully converting the attic to a habitable space with a bathroom and a patio. I had no prior relationship with Fern, who we found through a web search of contractors. The remodel included the removal of a load bearing wall and a complete renovation of the kitchen down to the walls. While major remodeling is inherently stressful for almost any homeowner, Fern's services as a general contractor were invaluable, and I am extremely pleased with the final result. Specifically, I would give Fern top marks in the following areas: 1. Quality of work performed. The quality of work done was consistently top notch. Fern used subcontractors who were knowledgeable, skilled, and competent in their respective trades. They were conscientious about following project specifications, and their work product rarely needed improvement or revision. 2. Quality of work crews. The workmen whom Fern utilized were professional, reliable, courteous, and respectful of the homeowner's property and privacy. They had an old school work ethic (often 10-hour days, some Saturdays), good work habits, strong safety orientation, and emphasized getting the job done right rather than doing it fast. Their pride in their work was evident. They tidied up at the end of each workday. I also found them to be trustworthy, and my wife and I felt comfortable with allowing them access inside our home. 3. I do not recommend Bella home builders as I recently had a very bad experience working with them. They wasted 2 weeks of my time and did not even provide estimates. I recently bought a single family home in the bay area and wanted to make changes worth 100K before moving in. The changes involved kitchen relocation and complete remodel, adding a new bathroom, changing half bath to full bath, making a vaulted ceiling among others. I contacted the Bella builder for a bid / estimate after reading review on yelp. The very same day, I submitted all architectural and structural engineer's drawings. As decided, Fern, president of Bella builders, came to see the property. We had a detailed discussion on the changes required. After 2 weeks, I started following up on the cost estimate, which was still pending. Fern told me that he can get the estimates by the end of that week or early next week. Upon insisting on providing whatever portion of the completed estimate by Friday, I also suggested to provide separate estimate for a vaulted ceiling. The idea was, vaulted ceiling estimate efforts could have been pushed to next week if not yet done and other changes which were more critical to me could have been reviewed by the end of that week. Upon this request, Fern simply replied saying he was "almost ready" with the estimate, but since I asked to provide separate estimates for the vaulted ceiling change, he can no longer work on my estimates and I should not expect anything from him. First of all, if he was "almost ready" with the estimate, why was he insisting on completing the work next week when next week was 5 days away? And if the request I made was too difficult to handle, any person really interested in the work, would have called me and explained to me the challenges in fulfilling my request. But he made no such efforts. I reckon, he did not work on my estimates and he was looking for some reason to back off from the deal by putting blame on me. He wasted 2 valuable weeks of my time and at the end he was happy sending an email saying he cannot work on the estimate. I would suggest everyone not to waste their time dealing with this contratcor. read more

From last year (2014) we decided to have a remodeling project to expand our house. Our project includes removal of an existing structure, rebuild with a new room and expanding two of the existing bedrooms. Interviewed with several contractors and finally chose Bella Home Builders (Fern) to do the job. Went into multiple issues throughout the entire project (NOT caused by Fern and his team), first was our initial architect/designer not able to fulfill his contractor to complete our design/drawing. Then in the middle and end of the project where we had one of the pickiness city inspector from San Jose to pick on every single detail about the modeling. But thanks to Fern and his team which were able to solve every one of them professionally and with excellent quality of work.
