We recently bought sidings from this company to repair a minor damages due to a fire in our home. Being distressed with our situation along with anxiousness to fix our home, we went to the Campbell location first thing Monday morning to match our siding so we can comply with our HOA standard. We brought a sample of our siding to match it and the person helping us assured us it was the same and so we purchased the 30 pieces we needed. We loaded and brought home the wood only to find it was not the same exact size. We called back to try to rectify the issue but the person we spoke with was not very helpful and told us that was the only size they had and we have to pay a restocking fee if we requested to return the materials purchased. Needless to say our hands were tied and our contractor had to spend extra time to modify the sidings. read more

I work for a very big construction company. Many times as company we need to order of wood. Part of my job in the company is to purchase all the materials ahead of time. I came to the store with the company credit card and couldn't purchase because on the card there is the company name and the name of the company owner. The store looks very good and I would love to work with you so I hope you will find a way to collect a payment from a companies that the owner can't come by them self. Most of the stores has option of creating an account with credit card on file, pay online or phone cell. read more

I'm a homeowner and I'm used to working with Home Depot and Lowes for my lumber orders. However, with lumber prices going up I thought I should look around to see if there was a better deal. When I saw an Economy Lumber truck, I was hopeful that they might be the solution to higher lumber prices. Unfortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong. I was putting together a big order (for me) so I got quotes from Home Depot, Big Creek, and Economy. The prices at Economy Lumber were not just higher than everyone else, they averaged 20% higher, and their delivery fee was 50% higher. I know that lumber prices can go up or down in a single day, so I was hoping they had old pricing data and would be able to provide a more competitive price. I was trying to give them an opportunity to compete with Home Depot because I thought they were a local business that would value a customer more than the big box stores. This is when things went from bad to worse. What happened was I fell into the reality distortion field of Big John, the owner. He's clearly not doing a very good job of running the place if he's charging 20% more than Home Depot and still can't pay his team enough to be fully staffed. I've also seen other reviews talking about the poor quality of their lumber, which is surprising considering their high prices. I probably made 25 phone calls over the last week trying to get ahold of my sales rep. Most of the time it went to voice mail, so I left messages with the hope that my call would be returned. Sometimes I would reach a man who had trouble hearing what I was saying, and was grumpy the rest of the time. This turned out to be the owner, Big John. When Big John asked me if I wanted to leave a voice mail, I was hesitant because my previous voice messages were not returned. I asked if he could just give him my name instead, and Big John's response was "That's what voicemail is for!" and unceremoniously dumped me into someone else's voicemail box. I left a voicemail, but did not get a call back. So I called back the next day. Big John answered again and was rude and argumentative when I told him I preferred not to leave a voicemail because they hadn't been returned. That's when Big John hung up on me. I had not been rude, or argumentative. I was trying to explain to Big John why I didn't want to leave a voicemail when he decided that any customer who doesn't toe the line is unvalued. My advice it to save yourself the trouble and buy from a more reputable local lumber company like Big Creek. They have a dedicated sales team who always answers the phone and provides competitive quotes, even for small orders. read more

Ordered redwood construction heart lumber for 1.5x over the Home Depot price as the sales guy told me their lumber is of a much superior grade. Just look at the pictures to see what got delivered. Had to waste time and money returning it to the store, original payment got refunded but nobody even apologized for the wasted time or offered to solve the problem in any way. Just meh. I was apprehensive about using a lumber yard for my small project, but wanted to 1) support a local business & 2) not give Lowes or HD any of my money. There are 2 things I'll give 5 stars to: - Quality product - Fred. Fred was awesome. Wish he was the only person I dealt with. Things I give 2 stars to: - Everyone else - Responsiveness The guy that brought our order out had serious attitude before we ever spoke a word to him. I'm certainly not looking for a hug from a dude working in a lumber yard, but common courtesy would have been appreciated. Being a newbie DIYer, Home Depot and Lowes didn't have a specific size I needed, so I was forced to Google how to get it. These guys were up there on the list that I found and they are local in the south bay, great! I first emailed and got good customer service from John. I went in to do the order and the whole process was easy as can be. Since it was my time here I didn't know the process and everyone I dealt with was super helpful. Also, I felt very comfortable with the Covid restrictions they had... temperatures at the door, limited people, one way in and out, etc. Last but not least, even though I'm a newbie, I felt the prices were very competitive... Tons of construction material. You can drive right to what you need for easy loading. During these COVID times they are doing better than most places in terms of taking public health and worker safety into account, though it would be nice if all their public facing employees wore masks. As it is, about half are wearing masks, which is helpful. But it sure does seem like one sick person and the rest of the crew will have it before anyone shows any symptoms and the whole place will have to shut down, and every customer that has been there is the past two weeks will have to go into quarantine. But it's lots better than Home Depot these days, which is just a joke in terms of health and safety. I already know one person who died from COVID and others who have gotten sick, so businesses that make an effort to prevent more death and sickness get a thumbs up and more business from me, for sure. So Economy Lumber is doing better than most and that's great. I'll happily use their online ordering system and quick response time from their customer service people via email again when I need more material. Heck, if they had more hard woods, we'd use them for our furniture builds, too, but, as it is, their construction material is plentiful and accessible. read more

Hmm, I am surprised that Economy lumber has such good reviews. I got some wood from economy lumber last week. Most of the wood were either bent or kinda chipped. Now my beams on my pergola is bent. Sucks. I had no other option to just buy whatever they had in stock. I would not recommend economy lumber, pinecone lumber is better. UPDATED: I gave another star because the owner JD was really helpful. He worked with me directly to understand the issue and tried to fix the issue. Overall, the prices are competitive, the customer service was great,, and the free delivery went smooth...BUT the lumber quality was poor. Economy had the special lumber I needed in stock, which other places said was special order. I was able to get all the framing items I needed, and all the hardware, accessories, building wrap and window flashing membrane all in one spot. I overbought some lumber just in case so I wouldn't have to run back and forth, they took back the return with no issues. The drive thru lumber yard is super organized with all material needs and easy access from big truck deliveries, forklifts and personal vehicles. I've been here when it was super busy and traffic flows pretty well in my opinion. The crew in the yard is super helpful, pro-tip: just ask them to take the long side when loading and unloading your vehicle otherwise you spend the most energy. read more

This is clearly a commodity/industrial yard but those gentlemen got me pointed in the right direction and helped out the new guy by cutting the boards down for me. This is really a framing and construction yard, might take a bit to pick out the prettier wood for a home job. I was hoping for some nice plywood but you can't have everything! From other posts - "As others have pointed out, wrt customer service, this place is a mixed bag. Some of the employees are very helpful, and some are complete jerks." I was fortunate to have the worst customer experience, ever. I would have settled for a jerk if I would have gotten what I needed. I didn't get what I needed, and will never do business with Economy. So, what happened - it all started out well with my friend providing several referrals for lumber to be used on my project. I ordered over the phone, placed an order over $1K, and scheduled a paid delivery. I then looked forward to the delivery which was to come in 2 days. I even scheduled time off from work and was ready to move my project forward. Maybe I was on another planet when I requested a courtesy call/delivery date/time, but since I am a professional project manager - I usually get these date/time things right. Anyway, the delivery guy shows up, I'm not home due to an emergency (I'm thinking, no problem - I can be back in time once I get the call ... but if that happened, I wouldn't be writing this novel ...). The guy wants to drop an expensive delivery on my front porch and treats me like an idiot when I tell him that I need to be there to receive it. I call the office and again am treated with disdain and disrespect. I'm told that they do this all the time and imply I'm out-of-line for having insisted on a delivery window and courtesy call. They may do this all the time - but I don't. They may show up and drop thousands of dollars of material on the driveway - but not at my house. They might have their way of doing things - but so do I. So, now they have their stuff and are threatening a restocking fee. A few minutes after getting off the phone, they process the AmEx payment which could have been done at the time of order. Weird actually, upon the inability to deliver, they process a payment which will be disputed due to non-delivery. Guess we see where they are coming from ... I don't know about you, but arguing with people that I buy from is not high on my list of fun things to do. However, the AmEx customer service people were very helpful in processing a payment dispute. Uggh - this will continue to linger for a few more weeks as the dispute continues. Thankfully, I used my credit line rather than a debit or cash as it would have been a much bigger mess to collect my funds... All in all, I'll never do business with these jerks and in the inevitable comment which will be made by the owner John S - I won't ever bring my business to Economy nor will I ever refer friends and family so argue with someone else. I have to assume the quality of the product is good, however, the quality of service is horrible. But hey, maybe you will be lucky to catch them on a better day :o) Good luck though ... So far not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, they were relatively polite and they did try to help but ... I suspect that they didn't know the answer and they didn't want to say 'I don't know and need to call the manufacturer'. Instead they acted like I was an idiot, 'what are you talking about and how could I possibly ask such a question.' The experience didn't leave me wanting to do business with them but not so bad as to warrant less than 3 stars. They did spend some time so I may give them another chance one of these days but not today. Specific details, I was looking for some hidden fasteners for a deck. There are two versions of the fastener. For one the web site and package say for 3/4" wood and the other says for 1" and 5/4". I was using 1x6 so it really measures 3/4". The question is 'should I use fastener a or b? Is the packaging talking about actual thickness or dimensional sizes?' For example, you don't buy a 1 1/2" joist hanger even though the 2x6 board will measure 1 1/2". read more

As a painting contractor I have gone to Economy a handful of times. Walking away thinking they could be a tad more personable. Recently I have been doing construction on my own house and have come in 5 times in 2 weeks. I have been dealing with a gentleman named Jack, who exemplifies INCREDIBLE customer service. In addition to Jack, Ray and the main guy JD are equally awesome. I was having difficulty matching some combed trim wood. He took me out to the yard and we searched high and low showing me various solutions. Made my day. I also visited the Moulding Co in Santa Clara looking for a particular baseboard in real wood not mdf. They being the moulding co, said no they don't have anything else. Jack said that's weird - had a vendor on speed dial and told me it could be done. They are my lumber yard forever. read more

And they can custom order lumber, or custom mill lumber for special repair jobs, like siding and trim. Staff is always courteous and helpful. They are a bit overly militaristic with the COVID-19 stuff. It's like these guys haven't been to Home Depot recently, where everybody is walking around freely. I have used this yard professionally for many years but it is not consumer oriented. As far as wood and quality product, Home Depot cannot compare. I read some questions here about "economy" but when they are within pennies of Home Depot, who is notorious for squeezing its suppliers, what more do you expect? For example, I once had a cart loaded with $500 worth of redwood fencing at Home Depot. When approaching checkout, I found one open register with 10-12 people waiting. So I left the loaded cart, called Economy the next day and had my wood DELIVERED at my doorstep for literally just a few pennies more. In addition, the quality of the material was noticeably better - without having to cull all the rejects like at HD. Being one of the last true lumber yards in this concrete hellhole, I can't imagine not giving them 5 stars. read more

Needed a piece of siding. Thought I memorized the shape. Came here and was surprised there were so many different styles. Picked one which was not quite right, but made it work. Unfortunately, I only needed 3 feet, but they only have a 10 footer - had to but the whole thing which was over $70. If you only need a small piece of siding to match, BE SURE TO BRING YOUR OLD SIDING, EVEN IF IT IS NOT INTACT, it will help to match it better. Economy is in the name, but not in the pricing. However, this is the only place I could find that had anything remotely close to what I needed (10"). If you need siding in a size different than stocked at Lowes, Home Depot, OSH or elsewhere, this is the ONLY place in the valley to go. I actually went to other lumber yards who sent me here. Southern Lumber used to carry my size, but they are closed now. read more
