As I walking around for dinner, later in the evening, I walked past this restaurant and noticed how busy it was. Luckily, a couple just left and I was able to be seated shortly. JonLuke, server, had greeted me with a menu. He seemed to be a little rushed, however, it was fine with me. He had suggested the pre-set menu, which was a great deal. I had started with the Mozzarella Stick Cheese, then Chicken Milanese then Cookie Dough Cookie for dessert. Few minutes later, the Mozzarella sticks were dropped off, which just hit the stop. Few minutes after the appetizer was completed, the main course was delivered. No complaints. Meanwhile, other customers were departing, however, the service was still great. The limited restaurant was beautifully decorated with various sizes of tables. The restaurant also had available tables outside. Of course, I was only able to eat half of the cookie, which was really good. Throughout my meal, Jonluke or one of the other servers would check in with me. The meal and service was so good, I had stopped in the next night. That night, I just had the meatballs for an appetizer and then Carbona with chicken. Again, great service and food. 2 stars There is one word to describe my experience here: mid. Here is another: disappointing. Came here during the lunch hours of the day and saw my first red flag when the restaurant was dead empty (could just have been an off day). My second red flag was when the host was rude and took about 10 minutes to take our order, and took way more time to give us the bill (didn't even give us the bill after we asked twice and then we figured out how to scan the QR code to pay on the table, will talk more about this towards the end of the review). My friend ordered carbonara, and I ordered the chicken caesar salad. For one of the most expense caesar salads I have ever ordered (~$20), it was extremely lacking on the flavor department alongside enough greens. It seemed that they put two day old chicken (tasted like it was rotting in the fridge), a pinch of leafs, and a ton of dressing. As for my friend's dish, I could not tell if she enjoyed it or not (only ate half of it). As I mentioned earlier in the review, the check-out process could not have been more difficult. As we tried getting assistance from the staff, we ended up finding a hidden QR code on the table. The QR would not let us spilt the bill by item, instead split the bill in half. It also, like other London restaurants, snuck in a 10% service fee. Although the location is in a good area (near all of the theatres) and the chain is huge in the UK, it is definitely not worth a second visit. read more

Ordered the carbonara with chicken which was bland with no flavor. Also had the brownie and vanilla gelato for dessert which was OK. I went on a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant is cozy and not too noisy. Service is good, the servers are very attentive and nice with good humor. read more

Horrible (female) bartender. Denied service for drinks when with my family for my birthday. Waiter had and allowed us to order both drinks and desserts and then was further denied by female bartender because we did not order proper food. Was mislead into ordering dessert, which wasted our time and money on my birthday. Female bartender had horrible attitude and wasn't kind when "attempting" to explain things. Really good food and drinks! We came here on Christmas day and didn't have reservations but luckily didn't have to wait long at all. I am gluten free so I wasn't sure at first what I would order, but they had a great green salad that was so tasty. The drinks were amazing, I think I had a Strawberry Collins, and we also had a dessert as well. read more

Do not go here. The pizza I tried looked like it was a deep fried one, terribly mediocre. My fathers chicken was ugly and looked like something from a weight watchers campaign. Not worth the money. Try one of the other Italian places around this block, I recommend EAT Italian. It was packed when we walked in and the upstairs was not open at the time. A bit crowded and stuffy at first impression because all tables were full and we had to wait on the steps for one to open up. Being in London we didn't know what to think of the Italian but it was actually very good. My wife had spaghetti pomodoro and I had carbonara. We shared a garlic and parsley butter bread for an appetizer and that was good as well. Real tight quarters and like I said it can get a bit stuffy but if you can get passed that, the service was quick, efficient and the food was good, can't go wrong for a quick Italian bite. read more

The experience that I had at Bella Italia took place around a month ago. I wanted to give Bella Italia's head office the right to reply before I posted this review. Unfortunately, the terrible customer service even continues into its head office (casual dining group) where I've been ignored, met with obfuscation and promised resolution which didn't transpire. When I did finally get a response it was to suggest that as they had two sides of the story (mine and the restaurant's) they couldn't do anything about it!. Unbelievable! No 'customer is always right' here!. The detail of what happened is below but I can say this is with by quite some clear margin the most disgraceful customer service I've ever had. There are many decent places to eat in London, please choose somewhere else than this place or you might have the same experience as me. We went for a family lunch (myself and my partner, my 3 kids and my mum and dad) to the Bella Italia on the corner of Tavistock Street and Wellington Street, Covent Garden The starters came without much incident although my children had finished theirs before mine arrived. After we finished our starters, we had to wait at least 1/2 hour before our main courses arrived. In fact the mains only arrived for 4 out of the 7 of the party (for one of the children, the main came around 10 minutes after the other 3 mains of the 4 arrived). We waited another 20 minutes or so but the mains for the rest of the party failed to arrive. I was (I think understandably) frustrated that half of the party had finished their mains and there was no sign of the mains for the rest of the party. I complained to a waitress, there was no word of apology but she said that she would talk to her manager. She then disappeared to go about her work. After 5 more minutes she had not approached the table to explain what was happening. When I saw her again, I asked her what was happening and she suggested that her manager would speak to us. Again, no word of apology. After a number of minutes, the manager arrived. His opening comments to me were 'Please don't swear at my staff'. Let me be clear, at no point did I swear or raise my voice to the waitress, I only suggested how terrible the service was and that we should not have to pay. The manager did not try and establish the facts just accused me of verbally assaulting his member of staff. To say I was incredulous is an understatement. When my partner tried to remonstrate with him regarding the service we were receiving he said to her "Don't pay - just go and you won't get your food". We then tried to get his name but he refused to give it to us and disappeared into the kitchen, not to return. My partner confronted the waitress regarding her lie (there is no other way to describe it) and she then downgraded the accusation to suggest that I had been extremely rude. Again, i would absolutely refute this, I was understandably frustrated but I only pointed out how poor the service was (which was manifest). The worst thing about it is that my littlest one was in floods of tears when we eventually left and not just because he hadn't got any dinner in his tummy. It's disappointing to think that many unsuspecting tourists that stumble upon this restaurant think this kind of place is how we deliver customer service in our country. Please avoid this awful place (and organization) and give your hard earned to places that deserve your custom. read more

On my trip to London I visited this restaurant because the menu looked great and it was in a fabulous location, which was fun for my family and I to walk around. The restaurant itself is not the biggest and it was full so it felt very crammed. My seat was back to back with another guest's seat. It took a little over ten minutes for someone to greet us. Our server finally asked us what we wanted to drink and it was very difficult to understand her in the loud atmosphere. We ordered and she did it on her tablet. She was very confused on where any of the food items we ordered were on the tablet. We even had to point her to where the items were on her tablet. Additionally, when ordering or whenever she spoke to us she kept getting very close to one of our guests that it made them quite uncomfortable. She was practically touching faces with the guest. First, our starter came out and it was delicious and came pretty fast. She brought one guest's meal out as a starter as well. Then, she said our other meals were coming a while later but said a completely different thing then what we got. We corrected her then she gave us all plates and put a salad in the middle but that was just one guest's meal; it wasn't to be shared. I don't mean that the food wasn't good. But when we came there one of the men who worked there asked if my dad was okay in a very weird way like he implied that my dad was acting weird or something and I did not appreciate that because he made us feel very unwelcome. Then when we had ordered, another person who worked there just put down my dad's plate very aggressively and acted like we had done something mean when it was the first time we were there. Another thing is that they charge a lot for one scoop of "gelato". It's not gelato, it's like cheap ice cream and sooooo expensive for normal ice cream that absolutely not is gelato or nice ice cream. I can bye a box with that kind of ice cream for about 1,5$ in a store. read more

If you are planning on eating here and walk in to see a male waiter/server who is white, skinny, tall, balding with a dark beard and hairy arms, walk away. He was very rude and barely made contact with me, while he kept checking in on an older white couple sitting next to me, offering them black pepper, parmesan... ignoring me...although we arrived around the same time and ordered the exact same thing. I hate pulling the race card, but in this case, I will. When I paid by card, I didn't add any gratuities for service, why would I? He doesn't deserve a tip. He gently tossed my bank card on the table, along with the receipt, turned around and walked away. No "thank you", no nothing. He needs some serious retraining, a new personality change or simply tossed aside. As much as I enjoyed the food, the horrible service is what will remain imprinted in my brain when I think of Bella Italia. read more
