We arrived at the restaurant at 7.45 looking for a table for two. The restaurant was not busy. The person seating us asked me for my name, which I happily provided. He then asked for my telephone number. I explained that I have a US phone number so it wouldn't work in his system. He said it was restaurant policy to get phone numbers from customers. I explained that I wasn't comfortable providing him with my phone details. He told me he would not seat us without a phone number. I politely declined and told him I would not do that. He said we could not dine with them. I was gob smacked.
