We really wanted to love Hibiscus House but unfortunately we didn't get there…read more We've stayed at many Bed and Breakfasts and our favorite thing about them is the intimate experience staying in a home-like environment. Staying here felt like a ghost town. Everything was done via email and lock pad the way an Airbnb would. Breakfast was simply put out and removed in the morning. Never saw people working. The room was spacious and the bathroom was immaculate. That part we loved. The house as a whole was very lovely. Only a 15 walk from downtown. The area is very noisy though. Places to sit outside but not quiet enough to enjoy. A train blasts half the night nearby and a the secret kitchen worker is very loud from 8-8:30 even if you can't see her. Overall I'd give it more of a 3.5/5 if i could be more specific. It wasn't for us but i do think a lot of people would love it. Be warned that they market it as a B&B but it's closer to an Airbnb.

I noticed it as I was walking and stopped in for an iced coffee. I got a Cuban iced coffee that was excellent! Decent price, as well. It was prepared quickly so I didn't have a lot of time to look around but the coffee shop seemed like a very cute and intimate place to gather for coffee, tea and conversation. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is that the counter staff person didn't seem all that interested in greeting me and said barely four words to me. Had she been more personable and welcoming, this definitely would have been a 5-star review.

The "Best" in Best Western Must Be a Joke…read more If you've ever wondered what it's like to check into a hotel that smells like a wet basement had a love child with a bottle of bleach, look no further than the Best Western Fort Myers Inn -- where comfort goes to die and "guest service" is just a rumor. We checked in after a 12-hour drive, dreaming of rest. Silly us! Rest is strictly forbidden here, especially on Sundays. If you value peace, privacy, or basic sanity, you'll love being forced to vacate your room mid-morning so housekeeping can "service" it -- whether you requested it or not. Apparently, your paid space is actually their space, and your plans mean nothing. Kids, homeschooling, fatigue... who cares? Let's talk atmosphere. The hotel smells unmistakably of black mold -- a sort of "Eau de Mildew" that greets you the moment you enter. The carpets? A masterpiece of filth. Take your shoes off for one minute and you'll find your feet magically transformed to charcoal. Who needs a spa treatment when the floor can exfoliate you for free? Now, the front desk staff... where do we begin? Imagine being helped by people who have the enthusiasm of DMV employees but without the knowledge, courtesy, or clue what their own policies are. Each question you ask is like a pop quiz they didn't study for. If intelligence were optional, they'd still be on a waiting list. To make it more exciting, they'll invent new "rules" just for you -- because consistency is overrated. Need to stay longer? Surprise! You'll be handed an undated piece of paper about "new policies" written on what looks like recycled printer paper, sprinkled with words like "Effective Immediately" and "Important Update." Totally official, right? And if you dare question them? Don't worry -- they'll handle it with the grace of a toddler denied candy. You'll be talked down to, pressured, and maybe even have the cops called if you use big scary words like "discrimination" or "policy clarification." In short, this place is a masterclass in how to lose loyal customers. Between the moldy air, filthy floors, clueless staff, and the bold new "We Can Kick You Out Anytime" policy, you'll leave refreshed -- by the realization that anywhere else on Earth would be better.

Mizner designed Calvin Coolidge's Summer White House. The Kennedy's and John Lennon have owned homes designed by him. Addison Mizner is known for his Mediterranean and Spanish influenced architecture that uses stucco, coquina stone, terra cotta tiles, wood beam ceilings, fountains, towers, columns, wrought iron, and tropical landscaping. Most of the homes he designed were in Palm Beach County but he designed four homes in Naples of which two remain today and this home in Fort Myers, This Fort Myers one acre estate was built in 1924 for banker Fred Alderman, President of Fort Myers First National Bank in 1921. He would entertain illustrious Fort Myers winter residents Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison. Many society events were held in the grand ballroom with its 14 foot high ceilings, elaborate mantel, and wood burning fireplace. On December 1, 1988 the house was added to the US National Register of Historic Places. More recently the grand home was used as an office for 30 years. Doreen Lehrer who was in the marines for 25 years fell in love with the house after seeing an internet posting from where she was stationed in North Korea. She purchased it sight unseen in 2016 and began the restoration. Lehrer added a kitchen and guest rooms which she rented out to guests. In 2021 the house went on the market for 1,499 million dollars. The new owners are still using it as an Airbnb for $400 a night plus cleaning and Airbnb fees. It can also be rented for weddings.

If I could write a 6-star review, this would be it…read more There are a lot of scams in South Florida with rental properties -- we were *almost* a victim of one and decided to step away. On a whim, we found Sea Star Property Management and they had a spectacular rental available for our stay in Cape Coral. All of our communication with Sea Star was via e-mail. We booked, paid our initial deposit, and balance prior to arrival all online. About a week before our trip, we received a confirmation e-mail with detailed directions to the home and instructions on how to open the lock box. When we arrived at the home, we found the home in pristine condition and exactly as pictured. There was a set of instructions on pool usage, and some other info about the home. Our rental property was everything you would want in a rental home -- very good appliances, some kitchen utensils, along with dishes and glasses. The home also included high speed internet and cable TV package from Comcast. We had a few questions about how the control panel for the pool worked and after we called Sea Star, the owner of Sea Star stopped by the next day to show us how it worked. It was nice that he was available and was very professional about everything. Our only wish was that the electric allowance that was given was a bit more than what they allowed us -- we totally understand that some renters could run the pool heater 24/7 and jack up the electric bill, but we felt that we were paying close to prime rental rates and we could have received a slightly larger electric allowance. All in though, we were very pleased with Sea Star Property and will be condsidering them for a longer rental next year! We can't wait.
