They have a number of programs, like $25 tickets, Rush/Standby Tickets, Arts for All, Pay What You Will days. All very affordable! And for the quality of the shows here, it's absolutely worth it to go see at least one show a season. The stage crew and actors put on great shows! Every staff member I've encountered there have been friendly, patient and accommodating. I've done the Standby tickets for a few shows now and it's a great experience. Put your name on the wait-list about 90 minutes before showtime, go grab a bite to eat, and if you get a seat, that's great! If not, they can put you on the wait list for the next show (and then you can go do another activity downtown). They keep the place pretty clean too, really nice bathrooms haha.

As someone with limited mobility often - I have a tissue disorder and some days I am far more mobile than others. I am also, due to the tissue disorder, more modest means. Thankfully Portland Center Stage is a proud Arts for All member. In addition - they really do welcome people. They have a lot of seating for ADA and accommodate you should you need chair arms or no arms or will have a spot cleared for your wheelchair. I appreciate tickets being low cost for me but with ADA it can be tricky and the events at the most challenging ADA locations expect you to show up right before a show hoping they will have an extra ticket which I cannot physically do and would not want that on ushers either. When inquiring, I have been treated with less than stellar attitude. I would love to have money and mobility and I used to! I know so many who are starting to struggle with mobility as they age and I really encourage them to go to spaces like this where they can easily get in and out. But even just calling - they actually answer the phone and are so helpful! I get that they want to sell as much at full price but it makes me really appreciate how truly welcoming Portland Center Stage is. Arts are healing and the productions here really are top notch. Their staff is very diverse throughout the theater making it feel like a safe space for everyone also. When seeing shows here, they do have a great concessions stand/bar with a great wine selection and some decent snacks. The theater is in such a great location - to the back of the theater is a favorite gelato place of mine and also some of the most delicious West African food if you want to make a whole night of it!

I was also pretty impressed with the props, as I know they had next to zero budget. The gym itself was freezing, but they had some snacks. At least it gave you some energy to try and stay warm The fee was $8 per person. The parking lot was dark, and we thought there is nothing going on inside the building.

However, last night, "our fun girls night out" turned serious and even reached uncomfortable at the showing of "Geezers Gone Wild" What is advertised to be a "fun and entertaining" production turned personal and political, making the entire audience sit in silence as the artists pushed their private and political views. I would not recommend this show to anyone. If I wanted to be part of a protest, I would have joined the rally taking place in downtown Portland. I paid for tickets to an event that promised to make us laugh. I must say, I was very disappointed and talking to others around me, I wasn't alone. I do, however, want to give the artists credit as they are all extremely musically talented, they just picked the wrong time to protest or push their views and thoughts on the audience. Definitely not enjoyable! If you're looking for a fun night out, skip "Geezers Gone Wild" The Portland Metro Arts facility is in a great location and offers a great venue, give it a try once this current production is done.

We literally had people falling over from laughing too hard! Curt is extremely talented at juggling, and he will wow the crowd with the peculiar items he can juggle. But The Curt Show is so much more than juggling. Curt is very witty and funny, he interacts with the crowd, and keeps people interested and excited. Before the Foster corridor between 50th and 70th was cool, some artists bought an old building as a…read morelive work space. Their work is making dance and making performance. I know them and have been to many events in the space. One of the owners is Portland's top lighting designer for performances in our high end performing arts theaters. The partner is a modern dancer who worked in New York with the best. The space has a great dance floor, and there is a small garden which is sometimes open for events. The rental rates are very reasonable, for rehersal or for a show. The space is wheelchair accessible. They publish a monthly email newsletter of modern dance events covering the whole city, including competing spaces. Subscribe!! Yes, how the space is laid out for performances with respect to bathrooms is not what you would find at the Schnitz. It's an old low budget church. That's why 4 stars vs 5. This is a DIY space, but hey, they have a great floor! That DIY attitude, graciousness to performers, and their outreach to all comer performers outweighs not being fancy, by far. Their Cabaret Boris & Natasha series and Alembic are examples of making a show accessible to all performers. So if you are a performer, keep them in mind, including for rehearsal space. And if you have movement artists visiting Portland who want a large rehearsal space, they have lovely short term lodging by their garden. Performance Art NW is a good space for Portlanders interested in modern dance to track by their email newsletter and website. The creators are lovely and the audience is too. They have many special events a month!

A friend and I took a few yoga classes here, and I just recently attended a dance performance with…read moreanother friend. Since I'm reviewing the space and not the class or the performance, I'm gonna stick with (some might say dwell on) some fairly pedantic details. The place is supposedly an old church, but seems a bit more like an old high school gymnasium. One big main room, with a bathroom/kitchen/utility space tucked into the side. You enter via a ramp, and it's not entirely clear that you're really supposed to be there. But it's fine, really, it's fine, just go in already. As a yoga studio, it works pretty well. Lots of floor, smallish enough to be intimate without seeming crowded. I'd always wondered how it would work as a performance space. The answer is: hmmm... maybe not great. There are a few ways a person imagines configuring this space, but the way they had it was a bunch of metal folding chairs (the lucky people got cushions) spread across a few seemingly randomly-placed stadium-style risers. The entrance and performance area were on the same side, which made for a bit of awkwardness when it came time to leave. The restroom was also on the performance side, so it was good that the performance was short. The lighting was nice. The sound quality was great. The place has potential. But it seemed like a more appropriate practice space than actual venue. If you need a space on the SE side for a private event or show... I'm not sure if they rent it out, to be honest. But I can easily imagine high school dance wallflowers dutifully drinking their punch and covertly teasing broccoli from their braces along the edges in here. Maybe it was their ghosts that made me a little bit uneasy.
