Because we are fast approaching Halloween, the orchard was littered with pumpkins and halloween paraphernalia. Upon entering into the store, you are overwhelmed with fabulous candles, jams and kitschy country decorations. The second floor is what intrigued me.... Cider, Apple wine, (cysers) and delicious apple ice wine. The winemaker / cider maker here did a fabulous job of making a flavourful, dry fruit wine. And the price is great. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER OWNER this hall for a 250 person…read moreevent, with dinner included. We paid $35 a person plus tax for the food an an additional $1000 for drinks (coffee, tea, and soft drinks). Prior to the event I spoke to the owner Peter on the phone, I explained to him what we needed and he assured everything would be fine. We booked our event months in advance but every time I tried meeting with the owner to go over everything and finalize things he said due to covid they are not open and he can only meet two days in the week in an hour time window. I tried to accomodate this but because of my full-time work schedule I wasn't able too meet him at his times, even though Google says they are open every day. A few weeks before our event I again emailed Peter asking him for details in regards to our contract, which he didn't send me yet, and asking him what was going to be included etc. He then sent me an invoice from 2020 which originally included dessert, drinks, and linen for a price that was $4000 less than what he was currently quoting me. . I being an honest person told him that the invoice you sent me has all of these things included (see pictures). He said no it's an old invoice and made me a new one. The new one didn't have table clothes, or drinks or desserts included. But since we purchased the meals from them we also wanted drinks. I agreed to pay extra for drinks and said we would arrange our own table cloths and dessert. Which we did. He sent me 4 different invoices/contracts 10 days the event, making changes on each one. Knowing our event was in 10 days I agreed to all his changes and paid - in FULL (pictures attached) Fast forward to the day of the event - Peter emailed me the day before our event asking us to bring him table clothes so they can set up the tables. Prior to this he had made no mention as to when they needed the table clothes. He told us we are only allowed to come in at 330pm (our event started at 6pm) to set up but demand I come and give table cloths at 12 day of. So I did. When I arrived the tables were not arranged how I had asked. Again the owner was very rude and said that it was my fault because I hadn't given him a seating plan. I had made it very clear when booking and paying in full that we were doing a dinner with speakers and wanted all the tables in front of the stage. When I arrived at 12 the tables were all to the side with a big dance floor in the middle of the hall. When I told him to change the way they are set up because it won't work for us, he again started arguing with me and saying that they don't have the capacity to accommodate that request. I called my husband to come and help and told the owner that we would move them ourselves because the way he had them DOESN'T WORK for our event. We did. The owner then started accusing me of being aggressive and said he doesn't trust me because of my aggression and demanded I pay him another $1000 on the spot or else they will cancel our event and not go forward ( mind you this was at 12noon day of our event). I paid him the deposit, although I had already paid him in full PRIOR TO OUR EVENT. TRUSTING that he would serve the food, and allow for us to have an uneventful event. Once the event started and our guest started to arrive Peter started putting jugs of pop on all of the tables. I quickly informed him that IT IS RAMADAN AND EVERYONE IS FASTING and NOT TO GIVE OUT DRINKS! He said that we had asked for pitchers of pop on the tables. I explained to him that we need the drinks out with dinner (which would be at 8pm) and no one is allowed to drink before that so putting drinks on the table at 6PM doesn't work and to please remove them. Peter yelled "for F*** sakes" in the middle of our event, surrounded by our guests. And then told me to ask my guests to bring each pitcher, that he had already left out, back to the bar. I told him that no we won't be doing that and that he needs to take them back. And not to serve anything, water, drinks, good until 8pm (which I had already explained to him multiple times, prior to this). Later once the food was almost ready and it was almost time to break fast, I asked Peter to now place water on each table and the pitchers of pop are upon request. He again started to argue with me saying that he CANNOT PROVIDE WATER!!! He said that water was not included in our quote and that I did not pay for WATER!!!!! When I explained to him that I purchased drinks, coffee, tea and soft drinks I assumed WATER would be included as well. Mind you we did not cater from outside - we purchased dinner from them. I didn't know we had to accommodate our own water. Peter then said that he can only give us 2-3 jugs of water for the entire hall of 250 people. So my CEO and I went from table to table pouring water for our guests and then running back to the bar and refilling the water, as our paying guests did not have water and had been fasting for the entire day without even a sip of water.

Eldon House is a walk from our hotel and downtown London area. It's a home where the Harris family…read morelived from 1834 and the home was donated in the mid 1900's and since been restored for viewing. The house different rooms and signs to explain the contents. The lower floor has many of the hunting trophies from the various animals killed in Africa by one of the grandsons. It also shows the servant's kitchen, sitting room with many artifacts from the travels around the world. Upstairs are various bedrooms and bathroom. A guide greeted us when we went into the house and there were only two other visitors. It's pay by donation at the front of the house. We spent less than an hour in the house but enjoyed reading and seeing the history of this prominent family.

The Eldon House is a great historical house museum. Admission is by donation ($5 suggested, but…read morepay what you will.) The house was donated to the city with most of the original belongings still in it, which is pretty rare for house museums. The tour is self guided, and you can wander about all of the rooms at your leisure. A guide greets you at the door, and gives you some background information. There are some interpretive panels as you go, but not an overwhelming amount of reading. It's very cool to see a fully furnished historical home set up as it would have been in the early 1900s. I especially liked seeing the kitchen, as well the children's play room (complete with creepy dolls!) Keep an eye out for the weird hunting trophies in the house -- and look for the elephant foot umbrella stand! (This is not a euphemism. It is a literal elephant foot that was turned into an umbrella stand.) During the summer they offer afternoon tea on the patio, and they run a variety of special events, lectures, tours, and classes throughout the year. The Eldon house is definitely worth a quick visit, if you're visiting or a local. I believe they also rent out the venue for private functions. They don't have their own parking lot; you'll need to find metered parking on Ridout street or park in a nearby pay lot. I hope to come back for a special event sometime soon! This place is such a beautiful venue for a small and intimate wedding…read more I would say comfortably - it seats about 50 people for a wedding dinner. Once you inch closer to the 100s - the space does tend to get a little bit tight. The grounds are gorgeous and they are pretty extensive and are wonderful to walk around and lose yourself in. Because it is an old historic house - so the space is a bit chopped up - but overall the wedding I had attended here made excellent use of the space with the late night and cake hosted in the Library and the drinks and pre-reception nibbles on the other side. There is a handicap accessible washroom just off to the main area, with more washrooms in basement below. The parking lot may be a bit far for the ladies in killer heels - since the house is located on top of a small hill and the parking lot is on other side the dip and incline of the hill. There is a drive up - but it may get blocked off to make room to have drinks on the outside front terrace. Another good thing is that the venue is very intimate, which means they only host one event a night.

Rooms are decorated in the late 1970's decor - complete with floral wall paper and carpet, wood tables, and vintage nightstand lamps. But, that is what makes this place quaint and cute. You can sleep with your windows open and view the outside forrest and lake. If you are lucky, you'll see deer and other wildlife hanging around. Also unique about this manor is that they have bee-hives on location, which they sell fresh honey and hair products (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap) made of the bee's stuff. NICE! The best thing about this manor is that the staff are AMAZING! Starting at the front desk with Sarah - I think she is the front desk manager. Super friendly with a "Can Do" attitude. Her other staff members at the front desk - Catherine (and Gwen? Sorry, don't recall) - are also super happy. I especially like the fact that they were willing to help schedule rides and make dinner reservations for guests. [Side Joke: Sarah, build your staff the Yellow Brick Road!]. While there, dine at the Windermere Manor Cafe. Server / Manager Jason and his staff are SUPER friendly. The restaurant has some great food (I suggest the weekend buffet with prime rib, or the fish and chips off the regular menu). The servers are super nice and friendly. I organized my wedding and ceremony for this site and the support I had from the staff here was…read morenothing less than perfect. Julie-Ann worked with me to make sure the event was a success, and she was very patient and helpful with all my questions. The setting here is really wonderful for a smaller wedding with an intimate, elegant tone. There isn't a great need to spend a lot on decorations because the space is already so beautiful, but staff here can recommend excellent event decorators and florists if you want one. The only drawback was the A/C wasn't working properly and it got very hot in the grand hall. I could tell the staff were working really hard to deal with the problem, and they did everything they could to keep people comfortable. They were consistently professional and friendly, which is a lot more than I can say for many banquet halls. The food served here was really quite something - the chef provided a Vegan and Vegetarian friendly buffet with options for meat lovers, and I had dozens of compliments over how tasty everything was and how much people enjoyed themselves. I'm so grateful this wonderful place offers reasonable rates with such exceptional service and support. Definitely consider holding your event here! There is plenty of free parking and I can't wait to come back here and stay in the hotel again on my anniversary!

Be aware they have a friendly cat and dog that love attentions. Other larger more commercialized lavender farm charge up to $13 for the entrance fee. This friendly family farm provide free workshop, I recommend visitors to at least do some small purchases inside their store. At the end, the family need to make a living :).

We didn't have food catered in as we had a professional bbq'r there so having the kitchen on-site was great. We could not have asked for a better place. HOWEVER.....what we did encounter that we were not at all happy about We had to hire THEIR bartenders at $150/per bartender. We HAD to have two of them and they would work for eight hours. This we knew. What we DIDN'T know was that it was the owner (Cathy) and her mother! They were not dressed appropriately in my opinion for a wedding. They were dressed like they were in a country barn hoedown. Cathy stayed for the whole evening but her mom left at 9:30-10ish. So we paid for the whole night but didn't get the two bartenders for the whole night. They had a tip jar out on the counter which I was not at all happy about! They told us we had to legally close the bar during the dinner time because we had our own wine on the table (so another two hours of paid time) but when we checked with the liquor store when we got the license this is NOT the case...but, not a huge deal as we had wine on the tables. So during this "paid" time, Cathy was outside playing with her cat. They (Cathy and her mother) then demanded silverware and ate our dinner. We had a buffet so this was not a huge deal, it IS however the principle of it!! This was never discussed nor where they invited to the dinner. Approximately 9:30, George (Cathy's father) came in to the hall and sat by the entrance inside the main hall and was dressed in "Johnny Cash", hat and all outfit. He just sat and stared at people. When someone would walk by him, he would stop them, ask if they were enjoying themselves then say "I own the place". He was the first person over to the late night buffet when it was put out on the table and helped himself to it and the desserts. During the evening, Cathy SNAPPED at a few guests to keep the doors shut because the heat was on (we had actually turned it off because it was hot) Finally at the end of the night, everyone had left when Cathy told me she had shut the fridge off but to have NO worries as this fridge holds the cold. It does NOT. When we arrived Sunday morning the fridge was warm. The slab cakes that we had piled on top of each other had sunk into each other because the card board boxes had become wet and soggy. 5 cakes flattened! Creamer and milk packets were warm, ceasar salad dressing warm and two lasagnas warm. I had to throw all of it away....it was all ruined!!! We had rented the hall for 3 days but were then told on Friday when we were setting up that we didn't rent it for Sunday but they would ALLOW us to come in and clean up but had to be gone by 12. This was not a big deal as we didn't want to be there long anyhow..again, it was the principle. All I can say is the venue is amazing and it is wonderful...the people on the other hand..... once committed to a venue and the invites are sent out. There is nothing that can be said and done when inappropriate behavior is happening. Especially in this case....I honestly didn't trust them not to kick people out if we didn't go along. I would give the venue 5/5 as it is absolutely beautiful however; because of the owners I feel they severely reduce the rating.

Mind you I am a manager in the restaurant industry.. I understand it gets busy.... VERY busy at times. We forget and make mistakes at times... My bartender MATT was so caught up serving his regulars that he forgot I existed... I stayed patient.... Very patient..... so much so that the new customers being served were telling him that I had been there before they were.... I have been to wrigleys center before.. but when I'm first at the rail, and my sister, father, cousin, friend, girlfriend, etc.. gets served before me...(WHEN I HAVE BEEN SITTING THERE BEFORE ANY OF THEM) it's upsetting to most... I speak up to MATT... and say, " Sir, I've been waiting 25 minutes plus.. what's going on?,". And in response he replies, " you act like everybody here hasn't been waiting the same amount of time..,". And he walks away.. I don't want to seem needy or conceited. But rotation is ROTATION! You have a SECTION of the BAR you're supposed to SERVE. I watched this bartender serve my aunt, because she called his name a million times, I watched him serve his friends from outside of work... I watched him WALK PAST ME to serve another woman who walked up 15 minutes after me.... Even she was questionable about why he did something like that... he says in response, "OH!....I am getting them next!". HE NEVER DID..... Listen people , .....MATT from Wrigleys ------ Is one of the most irresponsible//arrogant bartenders I have ever met.... It took my cousin (who is a local to the bar) to get my drink immediately.... And even then, he did not get my drink right... I asked for a whiskey//soda water.... PLEASE TELL ME WHY HE SERVED ME AH WHISKEY REDBULL!!?!!!?? I would totally understand if he had OTHER CUSTOMERS at this point... but I was one three people at the rail that had not been served at this point.... REGARDLESS!!!! However, she went above and beyond and was available to answer questions and help seek out anything I couldn't find during the whole planning process and for no extra charge.
