Maybe I should have really thought twice about making a few last minute decisions to stay in…read moreJamaica, Queens. Just because it's relatively cheap and conveniently located next to the LIRR, doesn't mean it's necessarily the best option. For starters, the elevator smells like roach spray and the rooms are quite dilapidated. Switch plates are skewed, shoddy construction is noticeable throughout the bathroom and many other areas and I once found a hole in the mattress top cover, possibly from a cigarette bud. If that's not enough, I awoke at 3 A.M. one morning to discover my friend irritated, confused and itchy at three mysteriously large welts on her arm. Pulling the sheets back, we found not one, NOT two but THREE bedbugs. Raiding the entire bed and murdering every bedbug in sight did not alleviate any of the damage that was incurred. It just so happens, my friend was allergic to bedbugs. which made matters worse. Having a colleague in severe discomfort, disgusted and frustrated, the remainder of the night was not pretty. Pulling the desk clerk aside, I showed him several pictures of what occurred throughout my stay. He sincerely apologized, nodded his head, and assured me the situation would be rectified. Walking away, I highly doubted they would do anything to fix the bedbug situation because he seemed very non-nonchalant about every word that came out of my mouth. You are forewarned: DO NOT COME HERE!!! ROOM 201.

I like to tell people that the Country Inn in Sandpoint, ID is the worst motel I've ever stayed in…read more The Howard Johnson Inn Queens Village gives it a run for its money. Pros: Both people I spoke with were friendly and helpful. The location is close to the Long Island RR. (Too close. I could hear the noise constantly) The Chinese takeout place delivered quickly. Cons: Everything else...the room stank of smoke (marijuana and cigarette) despite being "non smoking" The carpet, chairs and furniture were old, worn and stained. (Don't ask) I think someone tried to enter my room when I was in the bathroom - either THAT or the walls are so this that i THOUGHT someone was trying to come in. I ended up sleeping on top of the bed, fully clothed. A special note: Although I booked this room via a 'name your own price' site that claimed it was near JFK...it's about 9 miles away from JFK. This isn't too big a deal if you're OK riding the LIRR and the AirTrain, but it could be a major deal for someone with an early flight who thinks they're getting an airport hotel.

By the time I got there after midnight due to flight delays; omg! I didn't know what to do, should I call uber and book another hotel but time is everything and I decided to stay. The check-in area was horrific, smelling weeds or whatever it cld be. Then I asked them if the rooms were also smelling like the counter but it was okay. Room was outdated with colors sheets and comforters, no lights but was able to leave TV on all night. Surprised at their bathroom because it was really nice with good shower heads blasting waster all over like I was in a jacuzzi tub. This is the only thing that I could check good in . Customer service was also great, easy check in when on my arrival. I don't think I would stay here again.

Upon arrival around 12:30PM, I was told I couldn't leave my luggage because they "don't have a storage room." The front desk then offered early check‑in before 3PM for an additional $100. The lobby had a strong smell of smoke, and when I asked for a non‑smoking room due to a typo in my reservation, I was looked at like I was asking for something unreasonable. Later, several locals informed me that this property is known as a motel associated with prostitution. I canceled before check‑in, yet was still charged the full $188 for a room I never entered. Based on my experience, it seems they profit from both the local activity and unsuspecting travelers who don't end up staying. I would strongly recommend verifying reviews and photos before booking. Transparency matters -- and this property fell short in every way.
