Our review is for the Parent Education Program and children's classes Creative Arts Lab and Family Inventors Lab. Although the program for had to go entirely online due to the pandemic, it's been fabulous. The parent educators are engaging, caring and non judge mental. The children's teachers are kind, well spoken and are incredibly thoughtful and imaginative. They have worked so hard to provide an excellent experience for the kids. The projects are fun and interesting, all lessons or labs each week are accompanied by songs, books, visual examples and just a lot of fun. The kids get to share and that has felt so important for them to be able to have that interaction during a time when we have all been so isolated. I know some parents struggle having their kids on Zoom but ours love these lab style classes. They provide materials and everything. Totally worth every penny and overall it's pretty cost effective. We have to get a round of applause for these teachers because as parents, we just could not do this alone. Thank you for keeping this program alive and well online for all of us. read more

I worked in the Financial Aid department and am sharing my experience from an internal perspective. Federal financial aid is complex and highly regulated. During my time there, written procedures and standardized workflows were limited or inconsistently applied. I raised concerns about documentation, clear follow up practices, and transparent processing standards. I observed instances where internal delays and inconsistent follow up affected students' aid timelines. When communication is not clearly documented and tracked, students may be directed toward payment plans while still waiting for financial aid adjustments, increasing financial pressure. Special circumstance reviews and other high impact funding decisions would benefit from clearer documentation, transparent criteria, and broader representation in decision making. Consistency and accountability are critical when students' funding is involved. I also experienced limited tolerance for diverse communication and cognitive styles. A more structured and inclusive environment would better support both staff and students. Financial aid requires precision, documentation, and equity. Stronger procedural standardization and inclusive leadership would improve student outcomes. read more

This place is a joke. Faculty and staff are always leaving and with each new President comes more chaos and destruction. Some instructors are really good but I feel bad because they are doing the best they can with little support. Classes are also a joke. I took a criminal justice class called "the wire" and all we did was watch very old clips of a tv show that aired years ago. Instructor was awful and non-communicative. The campus has also gone downhill, it is dirty, unkept, and in need of upgrades. read more

I would highly recommend stay away from this college. Had to leave messages to get a record and never called me back as left several messages. Also found email addresses through their website and no one EVER responded. Would never suggest going to Bellevue College, formerly Bellevue Community College as cannot get records, especially since out of state. Cannot get a hold of anybody and say they are aiming towards AI! Would not trust AI or this college as cannot even talk to anyone at this college! read more

I went here twice over the course of my life. First right out of high school and 2ndly later in life to get a more career related degree. B.c. isn't what it use to be. It use to be all about the education and now it seems to be more about profit and how much can you suck out of your students pockets. I always felt my education was mediocre to lacking most of my life. When I decided to get another degree later in life I realized it was because of this college. I never got a full educational degree unlike my peers that went to "real" colleges/universities. I highly advise you to start out here to get your basic academia classes out of the way then move onto a university. Make sure you get credits that transfer out not all do. What bugs me about this school is it is a very much figure it out your self sort of school. The staff are very unhelpful in assisting you through out the slough of a maze of b.c.'s online system. Since they rolled out their new system it has made consolers obsolete. After you figure it out your self it is quite easy to navigate around, make sure you're taking the correct classes to your degree and so on. Teachers are sort of hit or miss here. They're either very compassionate about their job or they just hold on bare minimum. So long as they satisfy the minimum criteria they could care less if students pass or fail classes. Online classes here are a bit of a joke. Most of my online classes have varied from very professional to it's obvious that the teacher had no clue how to teach online classes. Math classes. I did rather well in math in high school and am surprised how much the math program/teaching methods have changed with technology. Two teachers I suggest avoiding: Tatianya. She has a high failure rate and is more interested in keeping students from cheating than actually teaching. Her assignments are figure it out your self and tough luck if you're confused. If you drop below an A- in her class withdraw because you will fail the class. She failed me on the final and I asked another math pro to regrade it and I should of gotten at least a B+ on it. Do not take her class(es) unless you want to fail it and have to retake it. Joyce. She is an amazing math teacher but she is very difficult. I had to drop out of her class by the 3rd test because I had failed all her tests. I retook it thru another teacher and passed with an A-. Unless you can do math problems in less 60 seconds on her testes without much thought you won't pass her classes. Avoid these two teachers and you'll be fine. If you just need to take math for the credit and know you won't have a problem with the info and it's a breeze Joyce should be fine. If you struggle just a little don't take it through her at all. Please consider using the aleks.com math practice courses to boost your math skills before class while becoming familiar with the program. I wish I had done this before the math class. Cheating is not recommended but you can use all sorts of methods to "help" you on testes. I do not recommend it but students do it left and right. English classes are a bit of a joke with everyone using chat gpt. If you try to show creativity students squash it with ridicule. You have to rewrite chat gpt generations into your own words or you can/will get detected. I didn't use to use it at first but after a while began to because everyone else was. Please use chat gpt to rubic grade your assignments. This surprisingly generates an accurate grade and you can fix it to boost your grades. I wish I had this option when I did college before the tech world bloomed into what it is now. They drop classes left and right without warning without much just cause. I noticed every other quarter at least one or two of my classes gets dropped/canceled. Some teachers won't teach unless they get a full class and that is frustrating when you have to wait another quarter to finish it. Fasa is a bit of a joke. B.c. will suck every penny they can out of you and before you realize it a book starts as $25 but will end up being like $500 after all the fees and I'm not joking. I did one semester out of fasa and decided against it with how horrid all their fasa fees are. I slowly paid out of pocket and did 1-2 classes every other quarter as I could afford it. This met quite a bit longer to get a ba but I eventually got it. Please stop talking about student housing. There is none. They will refer you to apartment renting and that is expensive. The college does not own any buildings/apartments around the college. No more free parking. College will try to suck every penny they can out of their students. College should of activated an online pay system decades ago. As their pay booths never worked half the time and I was grateful students left day tickets for afternoon students. Now you can buy a slot before you go and not have to worry about it when you arrive. They should of done this years ago. read more

Its been more than 2 years i have been study online and its absolutely a disaster. Take too long for the teacher to answer student's questions. Low teaching quality. College can become a love/hate relationship with a institution that is focused on enrollment and a edema vs quality of education. I had envisioned a school run efficiently and if the instructor doesn't do a good job they are replaced... I was half right. At the end of each quarter the students grade the instructor and unless you get an A you are let go... unless you have tenure. This has not been a stand alone college that long and it still has a lot of baby fat from its days as a community college. Under President Dave 2012 to 2016 this was a poorly run daycare for spoiled Seattle kids and run by a limp wristed weak minded administrator that can't hire quality or raise standards. They were focused on making students happy and placating a vast minority from "feeling bad" vs focusing on what a college does... teach students and help them to graduate. *edit... now that Dave is no longer the College President they can start fixing the poorly run process or enrollment and teaching issues that plagued the students. I've been taking classes here for over 3 years and I have to say it's the most cost effective for me to take classes here and other locations. The teachers here are generally nice. I do miss taking classes on campus and I hope we can get back to some amount of normalcy with classes because I miss the student interactions and speaking with teachers face to face. If you're thinking of taking classes at BC, I would say go for it because teachers take the time to actually teach you. read more

I was a student here for a while and mostly liked it. I had good teachers and mostly good experiences with both online and campus classes. I really didn't like that the computer lab was on the other side of campus from.... just about everything. The fishbowl (student union?) building was usually super busy so I stayed away. The library was alright. I remember one of my English teachers had us watch grammar videos she made about 30 years ago (that were recently converted to dvd) and we had to watch them in the... media center? It was so strange/funny to hear the same familiar voice coming from a young woman! My favorite class was Geography of World Affairs (Geog 105) with George Walker. I loved the Archery and Badminton classes, but my favorite PE class had to be Life Fitness Training. It was great because it was flexible and there was a minimum number of 50-minute visits (came to about 4-5 visits/week) you had to make to the campus gym to get credit for the class. Getting my second AA degree in my 40's and realized why I stopped going to this school first time around. The school is a bit of a joke and the math program is designed to fail students. I regret spending my time and money here as they only want $$ from you and give you a half affed lesson in return. I recently finished my second aa degree to advance my career a little. I advise students to attend a university instead. An AA degree won't get you much in today's society where most of the higher end jobs require a BA now. The math program is set up to fail students. Aleks is a bit of a joke and I was taught old math. Teachers accuse me of cheating when old math gets you the answer faster than new math. new math takes twice as long to complete the problem and old math you can do most problems in less than 1 min. I'd highly avoid taking classes through Joyce and Tatiana. Their classes are really hard and difficult. If you're like super good at math go a head if you don't need to study it and just need the credit for your course. Most students end up failing their classes or end up with drawing. Tatiana kept fining ways to lower my grade as the class continued. I should of passed with a B but she found a way to lower it to a C- by end of quarter. I hate to say it but I'm pissed at classes where your entire grade hinders on how well you test and the weight of your final, final grade is based upon how well you do on the final. You could average an A- all quarter, tank on the final and barely pass. That ain't right. I practiced all four online practice finals and found one near identical to the one she chose to use. Like almost identical with a few numbers changed. I have a pretty good photographic memory. I double checked my answers when I got home and I should of passed with a B- on the test not a 55. Something ain't right here. I showed my work and everything. The weighted score of most her students averaged D's on her tests and quizes. So if you wnat to fail math take it through Tatiana. If Joyce is okay but she'll get you on the testes. She is an amazing teacher but her tests are very difficult. So if you can pass her tests by averaging 1 question every 30 seconds you got it. read more

I am a new student and am already not impressed with what I am seeing. I completed my school application and financial aid application and was accepted to BC. I go to enroll in classes for Fall and am told there is a "hold" on my account and I am unable to enroll. Go to see why and it states I need to complete an "enrollment session" before I can enroll. It gives me a link to sign up for one. The soonest one is over a month out. Meaning I cannot enroll in classes for another month. This is absolutely ridiculous. By then the classes I planned on taking will be full and financial aid will not process my file until I am enrolled. This hold up is uneccessary and the "enrollment sessions" are an absolute waste of time. Apparently the sessions are someone instructing you on enrollment. We already know how to enroll. It isn't rocket science. And if someone needs help-they can simply ask. This new requirement was a really dumb idea and will cost you students. I now plan on enrolling elsewhere so I can get the classes and financial aid I need in time. read more

This is an updated review. Bellevue College continues to fail as an education facility by not offering in-person education for over a year and a half against all scientific evidence and the ok from Federal and State level health agencies. Local school districts have committed to in-person education for over two months, baseball stadiums are back at full capacity, local hospitals are holding in-person classes and yet Bellevue College is still planning remote-only classes for through Summer Quarter 2021 and Fall Quarter 2021. Registration has already started for Fall Quarter and all classes are online only. read more

--Love this college!!--- Very good design program and amazing internship after all the trouble I went at another small school. Initially I started at Art Institute of Seattle but they accepted me without asking for any essay or portfolio which was already unusual. Then advisors started disappearing from the office until school announced that closing permanently in the middle of the quarter. I was terrified to lose my F1 Visa status. Last person left in International Office told me to leave the country within 14 days if I can't get enroll in another college. I couldn't believe it was happening for real in the US. But Bellevue College saved me. They accepted me in a few days and transferred all my immigration records within grace period. I was able to get an amazing internship this summer and company just offered me a permanent job. Forever grateful to my advisors and great professors! read more

I'm giving my school 2 stars. Only because I've gotten the luck of the draw of getting the classes I need/want. I'm a state employee and we get the "luxury" of registering on the last business day before class starts of each quarter. Well, nobody is in the student service center on the last business day! And, nobody picks up the phone...in any department! So getting assistance at Bellevue College is like getting your child to help put away their toys. Nonexistent. Other than that, the teachers are great, very helpful and supportive. The campus is alright, better than some other local colleges I've seen. My biggest gripe is regarding how they treat incoming/returning students. You just don't get the feeling that they want you there unless youre dressed in hundred dollar bills. read more

If you had a parking ticket, or any other block, even after paying those tickets, don't ever expect to recieve anything until you call a hundred times to complain. Having experienced another local community college over summer quarter, I worship BC. The school layout makes sense and feels like a 4-year school. There are plenty of adequate albeit often distant parking options. There is rarely congestion leaving the parking lot (except for the parking garage) which is a huge benefit. The faculty at BC is amazing. The math and science teachers are better than some universities I have attended. They have passion, as the majority of them are fresh out of the work field, with have tons of hand of experience. While new to teaching, they know what it takes to make the courses interesting and engaging. The coursework is challenging so don't plan on taking 21 credits while working full time. I believe that the amount of busy work is less than other schools. All homework seemed to really enhance learning and most of it wasn't even graded. I will actually be sad to transfer to UW! read more

Before transferring to the University of Washington Bothell, I received my Associate Degree from Bellevue college. Even though it is a relatively small school, and many people still call it a community college, I had a wonderful experience here. While I attended Bellevue College, I was also working full-time in Bellevue, so the location of the school was very convenient for me. For the most part, the faculty at Bellevue College was amazing. I had multiple professors that were clearly enthusiastic about the subjects that they were teaching, making the enthusiasm infectious. Perhaps one of my favorite classes was Business Law with Ciarelle Valdez (CJ). Being a practicing lawyer, CJ was very knowledgeable about all things law. Every class period began with an open discussion, and I really appreciated that, as it made for an inclusive and engaging environment. CJ also created some fun in-class exercises, where half of the class acted as defense lawyers, and the other half of the class was the prosecution. These exercises were fun, informative, and often resulted in a lot of laughter. CJ also required that each student attend at least one real court case, which was the highlight of the quarter for me. I had the opportunity to sit in on a real-life murder case in the district courthouse in Kent. As someone who is fascinated with crime dramas and documentaries, this was fascinating to me. Is it a little bit morbid that I enjoyed it so much? Maybe. I leave that up to your interpretation. Either way, it was a great learning experience that I still talk about. The small class sizes at Bellevue College are also something that I enjoyed. I have always preferred a more intimate learning environment, and the class sizes at this school meshed perfectly with my unique learning style. The class sizes also afford more opportunities to bond and become friends with as many students as possible. In fact, when I transferred to UW Bothell, I took classes with many students that I had formed close relationships with at Bellevue College. All great things aside, the cafeteria at Bellevue College has some work to do. The food options offered there are slim, and the meals that they do serve are often bland and tasteless. Because I worked full-time and took classes until late in the evening, I often ate in the cafeteria. After some distinctly negative experiences, however, I was forced to get into the habit of bringing meals from home to scarf down during breaks between classes. I would recommend Bellevue College any student that is looking for an affordable college to earn their Associate's Degree before transferring to a 4-year university. My review is for the Tomobolo Institute Continuing Education Program at Bellevue College. DON'T DO IT.  I have never been more disappointed in an educational program as I am with this one.  A complete waste of money.   I signed up for the certificate program in Technical Writing.  I understand that these COVID-19 times require different ways to learn, but this program has a ridiculous format.  You need to interact online in a chat forum with your classmates as a requirement for the degree. There are no lectures, and most of the reading material provided sends you to some other internet link since it is neither instructional nor through.  And since it is a "learn online" program, otherwise called a "learn on your own" program,  it is impossible to get answers to simple questions when you are at an impasse in your personal learning.  The instructor said that she's available to help, but often it took many days, and a repetition of the question to get any response or clarification.  No way to meet the deadlines of the course and get the work done within the designated time frame.   Well, I take that back.  The instructor doesn't really care about the course deadlines.... she said I could submit all the work late.  And she doesn't really care about the quality of the work either.  So I could have just sent in "whatever" and sent it in "whenever."   But I enrolled in this program for the instruction, and "to learn how to become a technical writer".   I got nothing from this program except 'robbed."  In my attempt to drop the class and get a refund I was told "yes" by the Bellevue College registrar, then told "no" by the director at the Continuing Ed division despite my explaining that the program did not meet my needs or expectations.  I would think that they should try just a bit harder when you have taken the time and effort to contact them multiple times. I'm going to give my school 1 star, Honestly there's alot that could be fixed with Bellevue College. The teachers are assholes and don't listen to you. Except for CEO teachers, they work hard and understand things come up in life. But damn, the normal teachers fucking suck. They don't care about you, they only work so they can get paid. My brother had a siezure one day and I couldn't make it to class, my teacher could care less. She told me 'Things happen in life, you need to come to class'. Like I'm sorry my brother almost died and school is the last thing on my mind. Another horrible thing, they get rid of a parking lot EVERY YEAR. Making it almost impossible to find a parking spot. And everyone shows up the first day of the quarter, don't go to the parking garage on the first day of the quarter. Nobody let's you through, everyone is an ass that doesn't know how to drive. read more

I literally never write yelp reviews but if you're thinking of going here just don't. Save your money. Dorms aren't worth the cost, classes aren't worth the cost, they don't care much if you're struggling financially, and there's hardly enough parking for the residents. My car got the catalytic converter stolen from it in their lots, and my car was broken into in their lots that are supposed to have "24 hour public safety surveillance". If the school is holding events there's no designated parking for guests so if you come back as a resident good luck finding somewhere to park on campus. I was kicked from my classes instead of being offered help after telling them my family and I were struggling financially and then it took 2 weeks or so to get back into them and I ended up getting back into only 1. The "help departments" are insanely hard to get a hold of and then it feels like you get redirected a million times even if you asked 1 question. My teachers were all fantastic but that unfortunately doesn't outweigh the lack of help and the absurd cost. I said it in the beginning, but honestly don't go here if you want to save money. They only care about draining every last penny. read more

Really unsatisfied with what this college has become. It has gotten unbelievably expensive, with ungodly numbers of absolutely awful students, a ton of the professors are huge burnouts (a few are spectacular, but the majority of my experience has been negative) the parking system is absolutely horrendous and even at the less busy times can add upwards of 10-20 minutes to your commute into class. Their online Canvas system is terrible and depends completely on the professor to set it up, some are just atrocious, some are completely nonexistant, and some are well done. It's absolute russian roulette. The class schedule is really awful for people who work evenings or long shifts, with no options for people who work 24 hour shifts apart from "hybrid" classes, which aren't even accepted at other universities, so they're just worthless. Good luck if you're a full time worker and trying to go to school. The parking enforcement office is filled with unpleasant, unhelpful, and downright incompetent morons, they do not accept any appeals for any reasons (even for tickets that were given in error) the registration offices and student advising are practically nonexistant, and you can expect CONSTANT spam from the stupid student body in your email. Unless there was no other option for me to attend college, I'd never go to BC again. Everything at this college is expensive, old, run down and feels horribly half-assed. Every quarter I am reminded how much I hate it here and am counting the days until my transfer degree is done. read more

I moved here from out of state, got a job, and got laid off after a few months because the company that hired me closed the store. Bellevue College says I'm not allowed to have in state tuition without a W2 form that shows I work 40 hours a week and support myself. What the crap is that? My taxes are none of their damn business, for one, and for another, when I'm having double finding a job in this crap economy a school shouldn't charge more just because I lack one. On top of them charging obscene out of state tuition fees (I have attended for a full year now, and they still refuse to consider me in state), the school's teachers are mostly inept. While I had the one or two teachers that I really liked, the majority of them were terrible. They looked down on me, treated me like crap, acted like I owed them something, and got angry because I didn't make their class my number one priority (I was ill a lot of the semester). I took one class and got failed because the professor accidentally deleted my email with my final paper (we had to send it in by email). I resent it to him FOUR TIMES, even to his alternate email address, and from my alternate emails. He claims to have never got it and I failed the class after having a GPA of 3.7 for a year. First college class I ever failed. Only go here if you want teachers who really couldn't care less about you. Some less personal notes about this place: - You have to pay to get a student ID. - Their bookstore has poor selection. - Their student email system is horribly outdated and slower than the email system of a college I paid 1/3 the price for in NJ. - Every other week there's another email report I get about somebody attempting to break into cars in the parking lot. - Student discount is useful and less expensive than $30,000 a year at SU. read more

I began attending BC in January. This is my first college experience and it's not a good one. BC is not really student friendly in my opinion. Advisors don't care. The structure is not made to help students but to collect money. Everything is based on appearances instead of genuine educational approach. I've been trying to contact anyone from admissions department for two days! Apparently answering phones is impossible. Everything here comes with sweat and attitude. I transferred here to finish up a few degree requirements before graduating from EWU and I must say, this is the worst college experience I have ever had. The financial aid office made me feel like an absolute criminal even though I have been approved for loans long before I registered for BCC. They forced me to get paperwork signed by my father who lives in a nursing home even though he has been deemed incompetent by the state. No only was this extremely hard because he lives on the other side of the country, but ver costly as I could not get aid until i waited for mail to cross the country twice. Next, the entire school, including the people and halls feel like a concentration camp or prison. Nothing here feels like a school and I dread each day. I am a returning student and I have a work schedule that I needs to be accommodated for and BC fit the bill. HOWEVER, the teachers are sometimes incompetent. And trust me this isn't a whiny student talking - everyone I have spoken to in class agrees that she can't teach the material and she messes up constantly... SO Frustrating! The nice thing about BC is that it is convenient get to and they offer a ton of online classes. But you won't see me there for too long - UW is calling my name and I would rather make the shitty drive from Bellevue to Seattle and get a better education than suffer through any more first year teachers. read more

Going to Bellevue College is always a valid option, especially when you really have no idea what you want to be *when you grow up*. I owe the start of my career path to BC. Fresh out of high school, I had broad ideas of what I wanted to become and who I wanted to be. Thanks to classes like women's studies, philosophy, criminal justice, and criminology, I've been able to focus in on what I want out of life. With that being said, I wouldn't recommend BC to someone who has their future planned out (unless BC has your program or you're still a high school student looking for a running start program, sure). Take a few classes, educate yourself and enjoy the atmosphere. Other than that, BC gave me more headaches than achievements. read more

BC is the place for you. Need hand-holding every step of the way? College is not for you, especially not this one. I started attending BC when it was still BCC, I had good teachers but I was not ready for the college experience and so I drifted through various vocations before I figured out what school was good for. Since returning, I've continued to be impressed by the improvements made to BC, and the direction the school is headed. For the most part, professors are competent and willing to help you if you actually come to their office and ask for assistance. Don't end up like Vivian C. who said "This world is a sad place if an educator's attitude is conditional based on student's performances." The world Bellevue College exists in is the real world, wherein you must take responsibility for your own education. I've talked to professors who have never had a single student visit them during office hours, yet still receive blame for a student's lack of success. Like any campus, navigating the administration can be a little frustrating at times, but if you have one iota of experience with bureaucracies/large organizations, you should be able to understand that you have to be your own advocate and ensure that you are getting the services you need. I've encountered SNAFUs in the Financial Aid and Advising offices, but the matters were resolved professionally and quickly. And believe it or not, sometimes I myself was to blame! ~*Gasp*~ Like any endeavor in life, school is what you make of it. Want to skate by and minimum effort like you did in primary school? Go ahead, it's your money. Want to leverage your knowledge and abilities into a career? Bellevue College has plenty of options and opportunities for you. read more

I registered for a class, but did not get registered for some reason. I called my advisor, Wendy Brault, who kept talking over me, yet could not address my concern, why was I having to register for a third time? Very rude, talking over me repeatedly, saying things I did not need to know, and not giving me an understanding of why I was registering again, why a third time? She could use listening skills and be of better service to students. I hope I never have to deal with her again. read more

Big fan of Bellevue! I take glass beading classes with my favorite teacher, Julie Griffin. She's crazy awesome!! A year and a half ago I didn't know how to make a bead round. Now I not only know how to make a bead round, but I now know how to make a little glass flower! :-O what what what!! heheheheh Seriously though, I love my glass bead classes, the other students and my teacher. It's been an incredible pleasure to come to the school every simester and participate. High Five!! read more

If your interested in Interior Design, they have a fantastic program. I did it for about a year .. i decided it wasn't the right major for me, but i fully enjoyed all the classes i took and the teachers were all really great. I felt like i was getting a steal for how much i was paying. Downfall is that Bellevue college has a high school feel. There are a TON of kids (under 18) which i personally wasn't the biggest fan of. Additional random notes 1. Their math and science buidling is really nice! 2. take the running class, the woman who runs it is super awesome and at the end you get to do a 5k. 3. Don't eat the pizza on campus, its so bad!! read more
