Anyway, this is one of the better playgrounds on the Westbank. I think it's pretty new: put up within the last three years or so. I actually found myself here when a friend's kids were looking for a place to play and they seemed to enjoy it. It has all the basic type of playground fun such as swings and things to climb on. The equipment is well maintained and, as Jeremy mentioned, there is rubber matting around the equipment so that the precious angels don't hurt themselves. SIde note: do y'all remember when we were kids and our equipment was either on dirt or concrete? If you acted up and got a skinned knee, you knew not to do that again. And don't get me started on those metal slides that would bake in the sun all day to a nice 200 degrees that you then had to slide down in shorts. No but seriously, the rubber is probably a good idea. There is also some nice green space out there, if you just want to sit and hang out while your kids play. This is a really nice addition to an otherwise quiet part of Huey P. Long Avenue.

There are three separate play structures- two for preschoolers and toddlers and one for ages 5-12- as well as a set of swings, a seesaw and the safest merry go round you will ever see in your entire life (I'm serious- the thing is a single piece of plastic like a giant bowl with molded seats- nothing to get caught on or anything.) Because all of the playground equipment is brand new, it's in great shape. The ground material in the playground area is soft wood chips- watch out if you have a thrower (we have to tell our munchkin to not throw the wood chips every once in a while- it's apparently really, really tempting) There's lots of room for kids to run around and burn off excess energy, and there are benches for parents to sit and chill while watching the kids go wild. There's an art thingy recently added- made by local school kids- at the side of the park, so yay! for extra visual interest! The biggest disadvantage is a lack of shade- so during hot summer days it's not a good idea to head to the playground. Go in the mornings or late evenings in summer and save the afternoon trips to Gretna Heritage Playground for the cooler months of the year.

I took a chance in hopes that the playground would not be muddy. It was not! Despite the rain 30 minutes before the slides and tunnels were fit for playing. One of the littles took a tumble and hard fall. After a few minutes of shock crying he declared he was good and ran to play some more. There are plenty of trees for shade and there are washrooms. We didn't use them but the littles were able to expend energy to support afternoon nap time.

If you live nearby or on the Westbank is it worth checking out Something to note is you have to pay to get in. I believe it 50 cents on week days and $1 omg he weekends. It is closed on Wednesdays too. They do have park hours so check that before you visit.

It feels less like a city park and more like a destination where you could easily spend an entire afternoon. Audubon Park strikes a great balance between being an active public space and a peaceful escape from the city.

So, yeah, there's a fountain (who knew?) that looks really scummy and smells like wet dog when you're up close, but that's probably not a big deal if you have a dog. Even less so if you have a dog who loves water and are looking for places to let your puppyface swim. Because there were definitely dogs swimming in the fountain. It has your average number of sketchy and/or homeless looking people, but not all sprawled out on the ground, sleeping, like I've seen on weekday afternoons in Lafayette Square. Also, it apparently closes - there's a sign that says the park is closed from 10:30 pm to 6:00 am (interesting that they give you the closing time first, rather than the usual open/close times). Since I didn't realize it was such a big park, I also didn't realize it had official hours. You learn something new every day.

I just walked on the outskirts of this enormous park. On my way to the New Orleans Museum of Art, I walked on the sidewalk. I really enjoyed the large, old canopy of trees that line both sides of the sidewalk. On my way to and from the museum, I saw so many varieties of birds and groups of squirrels. The squirrels were frolicking and playing, chasing one another. The ducks were just hanging out, but there were other varieties of birds that were searching for and dining on earthworms, after the rain had brought them up to the surface. Lots of space and green grass. It's a beautiful park to visit and enjoy nature. No need to drive. You can take the trolly here, as I did.

Not only is there a walking trail that is 1/6th of a mile, but there are gates surrounding the spot and there is a parking lot inside the park so that you can be close to your car. I have walked the trail a couple of times and it's a nice smooth, fast walk. I like that there are trees planted around the trail that will definitely fill out over the years and make the space really nice. This is a great spot to enjoy a nice walk on a pretty day, especially now that the weather is getting nicer. I have enjoyed walking here and I am excited to make the walking trail a part of my regular routine.

It has a really nice playground and play area for kids and a lot of nice greenery. It's not the biggest park, but it's really nice for what it is. There is a good number of different covered areas that can be used for picnics as well as a large baseball field. There is also a gazebo that can be rented for parties and other gatherings. Recently the park added a huge recreation center that contains a full size basketball court complete with retractable bleachers. This was built in order to encourage kids in Gretna and surrounding areas to play sports and stay involved in their community. There is also a huge meeting space that can be rented for different events or meetings.
