We decided to visit the Falls today as it is only about a half hour from our current campground…read more You do have to have a state of Michigan recreation pass you can either buy an annual pass or just the day pass which we did which was $12 for out-of-state It is only about a quarter mile walk back through the woods, bring some bug spray and you'll get a decent view of the fall, but if you really want to get a little closer, you'll need to take the pretty long ramp way, which is wheelchair friendly to get all the way down to a huge viewing platform to get the picture that we took The path is all wide and paved, and even on a Thursday mid morning, it was pretty busy Today was a little marked by the fact that there is a lot of smoke and ash from the Canadian wild fires drifting over into the upper Peninsula, but we still were able to get a decent view Parking was free, although the lot is not very large so plan accordingly. There is also pretty limited cell phone service, from Verizon anyway, on the way out here so make sure you've got your maps downloaded. Clean restrooms are at the entrance to the trail as well

Great park to sit and watch the ships go by, enjoy the birds (ducks pretty much all the time -…read moreothers are more seasonal), not far enough to escape the sounds of the city unless you have noise cancellng headphones. Lots of benches to just sit and chill. Places to fish along the bank, as well as a little fishing pier. During the winter months the snow is not cleaned up on the road or benches; you are on your own. People still crive into the park so it is accessible by vehicle or you can walk in (it's not that big). Bring something to sit on if the benches might be wet or snow covered. Parking in the park is available, or you can park in the lot just outside the park and walking. Dogs are welcome, but should be leashed if there are oter folks in the park. During the really cold months, and bad weather your pup can run free as the park tends to be relatively empty. Poop bags for your do are available at the entrance / exit. Please cleanup after your dog. Don't miss Rotary Park if you're in the Soo.

I…read moreasked for a quiet tent site and she reserved #14 which is right on the highway, despite the fact that there were several tent sites available away from the highway. We did not get much sleep. Also, $13.50 reservation fee AND camp fees made it $56.00. Ludicrous for a provincial site for 1 night, non-electric, no water. In BC, we pay $22 with tax and a $3 reservation fee to a max of $9. Crazy!

So Pancake Bay is special. It's this bit of heaven along the Eastern shore of Lake Superior. It's a…read moreprovincial park with a large area protecting the fragile white sand dune ecology of the great lake. The campsites are either along the Trans Canada highway (not good) or in the trees along the glorious dunes (glorious) or nestled in between (pretty great). Either way, you are always steps from a pristine and incredible beach scene. Clear sparkling blue water, sharp cool and clean, a wide pancake arc of beach with maybe one other family in kayaks peacefully exploring the landscape that still looks and feels like the northern wilds of the Group of Seven painters. Heaven. This is a perfect long clean white sand beach like you'll find in only a couple other tourist-over-run places in the world, and the fact that it's under snow for 6 months, and eaten by monster mosquitoes for another 2, and pretty far from any major city, keeps it a treasure just for those sweet souls who live on the rim of the great lake, or those travelers like us who roll down the long ribbon of highway through the woods and are lucky enough to spend their nights in the hospitable wild wonderlands of Canada's parks.

I came here for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and will be returning in September. This is…read morean absolutely beautiful dark sky park with spectacular views. The park offers various educational programs and experiences throughout the months, has a unique gift shop (the staff was great as well), and has several walking trails to enjoy. I love that you can learn on your walk by reading the various signs posted. It would be fun if they did an educational scavenger hunt on their educational trail, as that would be a fun way to learn. I look forward to visiting again in another month!

The path is well marked with red lights (no white lights allowed). They do have bathrooms there too. It just felt a little underwhelming and over populated (and we went on a cold fall night). Some people were packing in wagons and had flashlights which was annoying since the white light ruins your eyes when they are adjusted to the dark.

They have 100 sites and our primarily back in spots with just water and electric and they do have a separate dump station, laundry room, and shower facilities. This is run by the city, so the spots go fast, they're inexpensive so you'll want to book far in advance. $42 for non-waterfront and $48 for waterfront if you can grab them. They have 24 spots on the water and 76 spots not. They do have the ship signals on the campground map so you can understand what you're hearing as the ships pass by Prepare for the fish flies if it's summertime!! Make sure to take the time to go in town to some of the museums, go to the a Soo locks and watch the ships go by from the two-story observation deck, they also have a small museum here that is worth the time. Downtown is not too far away and has shops and restaurants too

The park connects the Lake Huron Boardwalk with downtown St. Ignace and borders a quarter-mile long stretch of a pretty pebbled beach. You get really good views of Mackinac Island and the Chief Wawatam Lighthouse. You'll also be close to a veteran's memorial and shipwreck monument. If you're an active sort of a guy or gal you can snorkel, swim, or launch a kayak or canoe here St. Ignace's "Music By The Bay Summer Series" is held right here, so every night from July 1st through September 1st you can check out the local musicians.
